Review: March 3, 2022 Completion: November 10, 2021

The Interlock team was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Undertaking the re-roof of a 108-year-old home is a major process and investment. After speaking to many other roofers, we realized that Interlock offered the best value proposition, and we felt like they were going to be able to deliver on what they promised. Our salesperson, John Mondschean displayed his extensive experience in roofing by taking the time to listen to our goals, preferences and concerns, offering solutions and working with us to achieve the desired outcome. John was responsive to every request and stuck with us even after the contract was signed. We appreciated that he was always available to answer questions, give us updates and even bring color samples over one afternoon for us to double-check our selection. John embodies integrity and service. We were aware that due to current market conditions, we might have to wait a while for our materials to be delivered; however, Interlock exceeded our expectations and was able to get the materials to us a touch earlier than promised and started the installation within three days after delivery. The day the materials were delivered, we met Jesse, the lead installer who we worked with throughout the project. Jesse was awesome in explaining all the steps to the re-roof and answering our questions along the way. He took lots of pictures for us and explained how he would address our specific concerns like adding ventilation, condition of the chimney, placement of snow guards and ensuring that the construction didn’t negatively impact our neighbors. It was clear that Jesse has been installing Interlock roofing for a long time and is a true craftsman who takes pride in the quality of his work. Jesse and his crew went above and beyond to ensure that our neighbors landscaping, A/C units and other areas were properly protected. They also ensured that our property was well protected throughout, cleaned up every day and that they left the job site in great condition once the work was finished. We give the crew excellent ratings for the overall job they did on our new roof. We are very happy with the new roof and have recommended Interlock Roofing to several of our friends and neighbors. It is awesome to have everyone on the block comment on how nice the new roof looks. It really has improved our home’s durability, value and curb appeal. We would work with John, Jesse and the entire team again! They delivered on what they promised!

Review: October 6, 2016

Dear John, I wish I had known about the Interlock Roofing System before I put the last new roof on twenty years ago. If I had, I would not have had to replace it again now. At least now I won’t need to worry about the roof ever again because of the lifetime limited warranty with its 50-year transferable and non-prorated features. When I first suggested to my wife that we consider a metal roof, she was concerned about the noise level during storms. This concern disappeared after the first storm as the noise level was much less than before the metal roof was installed. Speaking of installation, we were very happy with the way your installation crew did their job. They were careful with our landscaping and cleaned up each day and when they finished and left, the only sign of their having been there was the new roof itself. The new Interlock roof looks great, and we have been complimented on it by many neighbors as well as people passing by. Our home insurance company was also happy with the new roof and its Class 4 hail-impact-resistant rating, which will give us a discount on the insurance premium. We are very satisfied with the entire process of getting a new roof installed. From the initial discussion with the sales representative, the installation crew, and the final results, there were no surprises. We will also be very happy twenty years from now when we don’t have to put another roof on the house.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in La Grange

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in La Grange, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in La Grange.

How does a metal roof hold up to freeze-thaw cycles in Illinois winters?

Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its oxide layer naturally self-heals when scratched—meaning freeze-thaw stress doesn't crack or corrode it the way it does asphalt or wood. La Grange experiences about 82 freeze-thaw days per year, and that's exactly where aluminum's non-iron composition shines. The four-way interlocking panels accommodate movement without splitting, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) resists the salt and grit that winter throws at it. Asphalt becomes brittle in cold; aluminum stays flexible.

Will snow pile up and cause ice dams on an Interlock metal roof?

Snow does accumulate on metal roofs the same way it does on asphalt, but the hard, smooth aluminum surface sheds water faster once melting begins, reducing the frozen-dam risk. La Grange receives roughly 73 centimeters of snow annually, and with proper installation including optional snow guards, you manage load safely. The panels' interlocking design prevents water infiltration at seams even when ice backs up. Because aluminum weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay tile, your existing structure handles heavy wet snow without reinforcement—something wood shakes or slate would demand.

Does heavy rain leak through the seams of a metal roof?

Heavy rainfall doesn't penetrate an Interlock roof because the four-way interlocking seams overlap and shed water downward by design—no fasteners exposed to the weather. La Grange receives nearly 1,000 millimeters of rain per year, and that sustained moisture is why the Alunar coating applied to both panel sides (not just the top) matters: it protects even the underside in salt-air coastal conditions, so it's overkill for inland humidity. Installed over solid deck and underlayment per ICC-ES ESR-1790, the system performs like asphalt roofing—water runs off, not through. No special maintenance required.

Can an Interlock metal roof withstand Chicago-area wind gusts?

Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 miles per hour (193 kilometers per hour), and La Grange's typical wind gusts reach about 97 kilometers per hour—well within the safety margin. Each panel locks mechanically to the next, so the roof acts as one continuous unit rather than individual shingles that can lift or tear. Even severe convective storms with high gusts find no loose edges to catch. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available) means hail and wind-driven debris also bounce off rather than puncture the surface.

Does a metal roof qualify for hail damage insurance discounts?

Many insurers offer discounts because Interlock aluminum carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the best available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. When you show your insurer the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 and impact certification, they see reduced claims risk and often pass savings to you. Check with your agent, but Class 4 roofs routinely see 10–20% premium reductions. After 82 freeze-thaw days and spring storms, hail protection isn't theoretical in Illinois—it's practical. Aluminum's non-combustibility (Class A available) may unlock additional credits.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorb it, lowering roof temperature and reducing the workload on air conditioning. Thermal emissivity reaches 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning those 3,051 annual sunshine hours in La Grange bounce off instead of baking your attic like they do with asphalt. Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms this performance under real conditions. The savings compound over decades—you're not just paying for cooler summers this year, you're banking energy cost reductions for the roof's 50-year-plus lifespan. Dark asphalt absorbs the same sun and transfers that heat indoors.

Do I need to reinforce my house before installing a metal tile roof?

No structural work is needed. Interlock aluminum Mediterranean Tile weighs approximately 0.59 pounds per square foot—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without additional support. Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter. Compare that to traditional tile, which demands expensive beam reinforcement, and the savings begin before installation. Because La Grange sees roughly 73 centimeters of snow per year, you'd think weight would matter; it does, but aluminum's lightness combined with its strength means you avoid the costly structural upgrade that masonry tile requires. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 report confirms compatibility with standard framing.

Why is aluminum better than steel roofing in humid climates?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that corrodes in moisture. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, so humidity and the 993 millimeters of annual rain La Grange receives never break through to cause rust stains or structural decay. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires coatings and sealants to prevent rust, and those fail over time. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides ensures longevity even in salt-air environments. In an Illinois climate with repeated moisture exposure, the chemistry is your ally, not your gamble.

How much upkeep does a metal roof actually need?

Interlock aluminum roofs are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance—you're not climbing a ladder to replace curled shingles or moss-covered wood shake every five years. Twice-yearly gutter clearing is standard; asphalt demands that too. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty) doesn't chalk or fade, so you won't refinish or re-seal like you do tile or wood. Snow and the 1,000 millimeters of annual rain self-clean the surface. No caulking, no patching, no preventive treatments. An asphalt roof needs regular inspections and repairs; this one doesn't. Over 50 years, that's decades of labor and cost you simply skip. The difference compounds.

What happens to my roof warranty if I sell the house?

The Guardian Warranty is one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion—a real selling point when buyers see their roof is protected for decades. The original owner gets a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty covering rust, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That's confidence built into the product: Interlock has manufactured aluminum roofing since 1998 and installed it from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, so the company stands behind durability. In La Grange's freeze-thaw and rain climate, knowing your roof won't fail and is backed by a warranty that survives the sale is peace of mind asphalt can't match.
