Review: June 29, 2017Completion: March 23, 2017

I would never recommend Interlock Roofing. Interlock Roofing could have improved on customer service from start to finish. The customer is always right. I am not here for you. I did not ask you to come to my house and take money out of my pocket to put your roof on my house. It is a sales issue. It is not me for you, it is you for me. When you call Interlock, you are calling to an answering center. I wanted to talk to tech support or someone at the manufacturing plant. Al's Roofing is the one that installed Interlock Roofing shingles. 3 month's later, I am still getting riled up. Al is in Minnesota and needs notice before coming to your house since he is states away. He has crews to come out. Interlock Roofing is just a name and not a manufacturer. What is the guarantee that the color won't come off after exposed to UV rays? Mark said that they would send us a visa gift card for any restaurant. John sent a Gift Card that was already used to a terrible restaurant. We received a gift card that had $102 dollars for a remaining balance. It was originally a $200 gift card. That is not a gift card to your favorite restaurant. The first time the materials arrived, the box said Green. Jessie should have made sure it was the right order. They should have fixed it at that point instead of installing the roof. We had to wait 7-8 days for them to come back out and re install the roof, and then at that time fix the Ivy flashing. I talked to Jessie and he said, "the guys install it differently based on the flashing and what you can see. The guys didn't think you would be able to see how they installed it because of a tree." You should get quality people that know how to install the roofing and the flashing. It would be different if Interlock Roofing made the roofing, had their own tech support, and everything. We are still waiting on Al to call back to let us know when they are going to comeback. I should not have to get up on my own roof to identify each bad tile. I think when the tiles were put into the box, they rubbed up against each other and rubbed off the color. It is either a packaging problem or a manufacturing problem. My concern is if it was a packaging problem, then what is my guarantee that the color will last on my roof. Al said that he will back the warranty, but what happens if Al goes out of business. What happens to my warranty? I found the invoice that Interlock charges. $177 sqft per square from Interlock Roofing. How much are you charging the customer? $177 times 15 would be the cost of the materials right there. Are we paying for the warranty as the additional cost? I can easily take that information, go online, and create my own website to bash Interlock. I know how much everything costs, and I wouldn't be feeling this way if it hadn't been for the customer service I received.I feel like we have been screwed from the beginning. I also noticed on the invoice, that Interlock charges the customer for the sign and stand. Why is that? I did ask Al if we were charged for the sign, and he avoided the question and then changed the subject.

Review: January 29, 2018Completion: October 31, 2017

They could improve by responding to phone calls. I made ten calls and still don't have any good answers. I'm very dissatisfied! I paid $24,290 and I'm very, very unsatisfied with the roof's performance! Update 1/30/18: The office administrator, Sarah Hamlin, and Allen Gessell gave me nothing but the run-around and I'm very unsatisfied with those two employees.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hinsdale

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hinsdale, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hinsdale.

Will a metal roof handle Hinsdale's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or warping?

Yes—aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or warping, even through Hinsdale's typical 82 freeze-thaw days annually. Unlike slate or wood shakes, which develop stress fractures as moisture seeps into micro-cracks and freezes, solid 3105-H24 aluminum alloy has no pores for water to enter. The four-way interlocking panels and self-healing oxide layer mean repeated winter-spring cycling won't degrade the material or coating. Your roof simply returns to its original state after each thaw.

How does an Interlock metal roof perform under Hinsdale's annual snowfall?

The smooth, low-friction aluminum surface sheds snow and ice efficiently—Hinsdale averages about 73 centimeters of snow yearly, and metal's slickness prevents dangerous ice dams that trap water behind gutters. The four-way interlocking design creates a unified, sealed plane that won't allow meltwater seepage. You can add snow guards where local codes or your preference dictates. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs moisture and becomes brittle in freeze-thaw swings, aluminum's non-porous construction resists the weight and stress of repeated snow loads without weakening.

Does a metal roof leak during heavy rain, especially with Hinsdale's annual rainfall?

No—Hinsdale receives about 993 millimeters of rain per year, yet metal roofs with proper installation and four-way interlocking panels outperform asphalt in moisture management. The panels overlap and interlock in all directions, creating a labyrinth that directs water downward; any water that does seep into a panel cavity is drained by the design itself. Installation over solid decking with a quality underlayment—standard practice—ensures water trapped by wind-driven rain or debris finds no path into the home. The sealed integration is why metal roofs are rated for coastal salt-air installations.

Can Interlock metal roofing withstand DuPage County wind gusts?

Yes—Hinsdale's typical daily-maximum winds reach about 19 kilometers per hour, but gusts can spike to 97 kilometers per hour; Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 miles per hour (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking panels work together as a unified structure, with each panel anchoring its neighbors—this redundancy prevents uplift even in severe weather. UL testing and ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirm the system's integrity, which is why coastal installations withstand Atlantic nor'easters without panel separation or fastener failure.

Will hail damage a metal roof, and could it lower my insurance premium?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts, since hail claims on asphalt or wood roofs are far costlier to underwriters. In DuPage County's climate, hail protection is a practical advantage. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore premium reductions; many companies recognize the reduced claim risk and adjust your rate accordingly.

Is a metal roof heavy enough to require structural reinforcement to my home?

No—the opposite is true. Interlock's Cedar Shingle installs at 0.41 pounds per square foot, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 pounds per square foot, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This extraordinary lightness means no structural reinforcement is required, and you can often install over an existing asphalt roof without removal. Most Hinsdale homes built in the last 50 years support these loads without any framing upgrades, making metal roofing one of the least invasive roof replacements available.

Why doesn't an aluminum roof rust like a steel roof does?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air, which protects the underlying metal from corrosion. Even if scratched during installation or by debris, this oxide layer reforms automatically—a property unique to aluminum among roofing metals. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, provides an additional barrier. For Hinsdale homeowners concerned about moisture and freeze-thaw stress, aluminum's immunity to rust means your investment won't degrade into the oxide stains and structural weakness that plague steel roofs.

What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it really last?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable—the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. This structure reflects the product's proven durability since 1998 manufacturing in Delta, BC, installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. Combined with the 30-year fluorocarbon coating warranty, your roof is protected through multiple generations of Hinsdale's 82 annual freeze-thaw cycles.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt or wood. Asphalt shingles degrade annually in Hinsdale's 82 freeze-thaw days and must be inspected and partially replaced within 15-20 years; wood shakes absorb moisture and split in freeze cycles, demanding annual fungicide treatments and nailing repairs. Interlock's sealed aluminum system resists all three failure modes and is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning and occasional debris removal are sufficient. No sealants to reapply, no asphalt deterioration to monitor, no wood rot to arrest—the engineering eliminates the maintenance burden that consumes asphalt and wood roofing budgets.

Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, breaking the asphalt shingle cycle that fills landfills with millions of tons of torn-off material annually. In Hinsdale, where waste management costs rise each year, choosing a roof that won't end up in a landfill makes environmental and economic sense. Aluminum's recyclability means your investment doesn't create disposal debt for the next owner. By contrast, asphalt shingles become hazardous waste after 15-20 years and cannot be reclaimed; you pay to remove and bury them. A metal roof purchased today is raw material for future products, not future trash.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hinsdale’s climate?

Yes. Hinsdale averages about 73 cm of snow, 993 mm of rain, roughly 82 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
