Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Villa Park, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
The company was pleasant and nice. I love the product but I had to make a quick decision to put the roof on.
They have to bring down the price. The quote I got was very, very high.
They could improve by responding to phone calls. I made ten calls and still don't have any good answers. I'm very dissatisfied! I paid $24,290 and I'm very, very unsatisfied with the roof's performance! Update 1/30/18: The office administrator, Sarah Hamlin, and Allen Gessell gave me nothing but the run-around and I'm very unsatisfied with those two employees.
Connecting the green house to the actual house. It isn't the prettiest of end results. They could also doa recommendation to get a plumber out to connect the lines to the back of the house so that the back looks cleaner.
I would never recommend Interlock Roofing. Interlock Roofing could have improved on customer service from start to finish. The customer is always right. I am not here for you. I did not ask you to come to my house and take money out of my pocket to put your roof on my house. It is a sales issue. It is not me for you, it is you for me. When you call Interlock, you are calling to an answering center. I wanted to talk to tech support or someone at the manufacturing plant. Al's Roofing is the one that installed Interlock Roofing shingles. 3 month's later, I am still getting riled up. Al is in Minnesota and needs notice before coming to your house since he is states away. He has crews to come out. Interlock Roofing is just a name and not a manufacturer. What is the guarantee that the color won't come off after exposed to UV rays? Mark said that they would send us a visa gift card for any restaurant. John sent a Gift Card that was already used to a terrible restaurant. We received a gift card that had $102 dollars for a remaining balance. It was originally a $200 gift card. That is not a gift card to your favorite restaurant. The first time the materials arrived, the box said Green. Jessie should have made sure it was the right order. They should have fixed it at that point instead of installing the roof. We had to wait 7-8 days for them to come back out and re install the roof, and then at that time fix the Ivy flashing. I talked to Jessie and he said, "the guys install it differently based on the flashing and what you can see. The guys didn't think you would be able to see how they installed it because of a tree." You should get quality people that know how to install the roofing and the flashing. It would be different if Interlock Roofing made the roofing, had their own tech support, and everything. We are still waiting on Al to call back to let us know when they are going to comeback. I should not have to get up on my own roof to identify each bad tile. I think when the tiles were put into the box, they rubbed up against each other and rubbed off the color. It is either a packaging problem or a manufacturing problem. My concern is if it was a packaging problem, then what is my guarantee that the color will last on my roof. Al said that he will back the warranty, but what happens if Al goes out of business. What happens to my warranty? I found the invoice that Interlock charges. $177 sqft per square from Interlock Roofing. How much are you charging the customer? $177 times 15 would be the cost of the materials right there. Are we paying for the warranty as the additional cost? I can easily take that information, go online, and create my own website to bash Interlock. I know how much everything costs, and I wouldn't be feeling this way if it hadn't been for the customer service I received.I feel like we have been screwed from the beginning. I also noticed on the invoice, that Interlock charges the customer for the sign and stand. Why is that? I did ask Al if we were charged for the sign, and he avoided the question and then changed the subject.
The product is very nice, and we're interested in it, but the cost is our of our ballpark.
They could have improved on the scheduling. The installation crew was very professional and they worked long hours to get the job done quickly.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Villa Park
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Villa Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Villa Park.
Will a metal roof hold up through DuPage County's freeze-thaw winters?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw cycles. With about 82 freeze-thaw days per year in Villa Park and roughly 73 cm of snow, your roof experiences constant contraction and expansion. Aluminum's oxide layer is chemically inert and self-heals when scratched, so it won't corrode or degrade as the temperature swings between seasons. The four-way interlocking panels also allow for thermal movement without cracking, unlike brittle asphalt or ceramic tile. Installed to spec, your roof stays sealed and functional through decades of Illinois winters.
How does Interlock metal roofing handle heavy snow loads?
Your roof's aluminum construction weighs roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—light enough that no structural reinforcement is needed—yet the four-way interlocking system locks panels together to distribute snow loads evenly across your home's existing framing. Villa Park receives about 73 cm of snow annually; that load sits on the smooth, hard surface without absorbing moisture like asphalt does. Optional snow guards and ice-melt provisions can be installed if gutters need extra protection, and the low weight means your home's structure sees far less strain than it would under traditional slate or concrete tile.
Why can't aluminum roofing rust like steel does?
Aluminum simply has no iron in its chemistry, so rust—which is iron oxide—cannot form. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and when exposed to moisture or salt air, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath. If that layer is scratched, it self-heals chemically. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of every panel adds a second barrier against weathering. Since Villa Park averages nearly 1000 mm of annual rainfall, that corrosion resistance means your roof won't weaken or leak from rust-through—a real risk with steel.
Can a metal roof reduce hail damage or insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, impact-resistant rating often qualifies you for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL listing number 33876 to explore premium reductions. In Illinois, where spring hail is a genuine risk, Class 4 aluminum outperforms asphalt (which dents and bruises easily) and rivals expensive impact-rated shingles without the 20–30 year lifespan limitation. The warranty's impact protection is permanent—not prorated—giving you genuine financial leverage when claims arise.
Will DuPage County's wind gusts damage an interlocking metal roof?
No. Villa Park experiences typical daily winds around 19 km/h with gusts reaching 97 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The mechanical interlock—not nails or fasteners—transfers lateral forces across adjoining panels, distributing wind loads instead of concentrating them at seams. This engineered interlock system, evaluated under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) for IBC/IRC compliance, means your roof performs structurally well beyond the gusts your region produces. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are vulnerable to blow-off at much lower wind speeds.
How much upkeep does a metal roof actually need versus asphalt or tile?
Metal roofing demands almost no ongoing maintenance compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Your aluminum Interlock roof requires no patching, re-nailing, wood treatment, or tile replacement. Annually, hose off any debris (leaves, pollen) in spring and fall—a task identical to cleaning gutters. Asphalt shingles need inspections every 2–3 years, granule replacement, and re-nailing as fasteners fail. Wood shake splits and rots, requiring costly repairs. Ceramic tile cracks, then breaks under foot traffic. With about 3051 sunshine hours per year in Villa Park, your roof's Alunar coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured); the finish stays vibrant without repainting. Over a 50-year life, the time and dollar savings compound significantly.
Can my house's frame handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
Your home almost certainly needs no structural reinforcement. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates clay or concrete tile at full visual impact—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. The Shake profile comes in at 0.58 lb/sq ft. By comparison, traditional concrete tile runs 12–15 lb/sq ft, requiring expensive structural upgrades. Aluminum's extraordinary lightness means you can install Interlock directly over most existing roofs, saving thousands in tear-off labor and disposal fees. With Villa Park's 73 cm annual snow load, the low weight of metal actually reduces stress on your home's framing compared to heavier materials, extending the life of trusses and supporting walls.
Is a metal roof worth the initial cost over a 30- or 50-year lifespan?
On a per-year basis, Interlock is the last roof you buy. A typical asphalt roof costs less upfront but lasts 15–25 years, meaning two to three replacements over 50 years—each with tear-off, disposal, labor, and re-roofing costs. Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated Guardian Warranty and is transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, reflecting confidence in durability. Over 50 years, you'll spend more on two asphalt replacements (materials, labor, landfill fees) than a single Interlock installation. Energy savings (energy-efficient colors with 0.84 emissivity reduce cooling load on 3051 sunny annual hours in Villa Park), zero maintenance, hail/wind durability, and potential insurance discounts further narrow the real cost difference. Most owners recoup the premium at resale.
Is metal roofing really better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at the end of its life (or even decades into it), Interlock panels retain scrap value and enter recycling streams. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are glued fiberglass with stone chips; they're nearly impossible to recycle and represent hundreds of millions of tons in U.S. landfills annually. When you eventually re-roof, Interlock panels can be removed intact and sold. With Villa Park's 1000 mm annual rainfall and 73 cm of snow, the durability of aluminum means you're installing one roof instead of two or three over 50 years—avoiding repeated landfill contributions. The minimal maintenance also means no chemical treatments (wood preservatives, fungicides) leaching into soil. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, aligning with modern environmental standards without sacrificing performance in Illinois's freeze-thaw climate.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Most residential Interlock installations complete in 2–5 days, depending on roof size and complexity; Villa Park's typical residential footprint (1,500–3,000 sq ft) usually falls in the 3–4 day range. Yes, you can install directly over most existing asphalt, wood shake, or tile roofs—the extraordinary light weight (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement or tear-off is required. This approach saves weeks of debris hauling and weeks of landfill impact, plus thousands in labor. Interlock installs as a solid-deck system with underlayment, so rain doesn't leak through seams, and noise is identical to asphalt—the solid substrate, not the metal, determines sound levels. The local Interlock installer has served the region since 2001 and knows DuPage County's frost-line, wind-zone, and snow-load requirements under ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance.
