Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Oak Brook, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
The job was quickly and professionally done - no complaints there. Everything went smooth and I was really happy with the installation
I would never recommend Interlock Roofing. Interlock Roofing could have improved on customer service from start to finish. The customer is always right. I am not here for you. I did not ask you to come to my house and take money out of my pocket to put your roof on my house. It is a sales issue. It is not me for you, it is you for me. When you call Interlock, you are calling to an answering center. I wanted to talk to tech support or someone at the manufacturing plant. Al's Roofing is the one that installed Interlock Roofing shingles. 3 month's later, I am still getting riled up. Al is in Minnesota and needs notice before coming to your house since he is states away. He has crews to come out. Interlock Roofing is just a name and not a manufacturer. What is the guarantee that the color won't come off after exposed to UV rays? Mark said that they would send us a visa gift card for any restaurant. John sent a Gift Card that was already used to a terrible restaurant. We received a gift card that had $102 dollars for a remaining balance. It was originally a $200 gift card. That is not a gift card to your favorite restaurant. The first time the materials arrived, the box said Green. Jessie should have made sure it was the right order. They should have fixed it at that point instead of installing the roof. We had to wait 7-8 days for them to come back out and re install the roof, and then at that time fix the Ivy flashing. I talked to Jessie and he said, "the guys install it differently based on the flashing and what you can see. The guys didn't think you would be able to see how they installed it because of a tree." You should get quality people that know how to install the roofing and the flashing. It would be different if Interlock Roofing made the roofing, had their own tech support, and everything. We are still waiting on Al to call back to let us know when they are going to comeback. I should not have to get up on my own roof to identify each bad tile. I think when the tiles were put into the box, they rubbed up against each other and rubbed off the color. It is either a packaging problem or a manufacturing problem. My concern is if it was a packaging problem, then what is my guarantee that the color will last on my roof. Al said that he will back the warranty, but what happens if Al goes out of business. What happens to my warranty? I found the invoice that Interlock charges. $177 sqft per square from Interlock Roofing. How much are you charging the customer? $177 times 15 would be the cost of the materials right there. Are we paying for the warranty as the additional cost? I can easily take that information, go online, and create my own website to bash Interlock. I know how much everything costs, and I wouldn't be feeling this way if it hadn't been for the customer service I received.I feel like we have been screwed from the beginning. I also noticed on the invoice, that Interlock charges the customer for the sign and stand. Why is that? I did ask Al if we were charged for the sign, and he avoided the question and then changed the subject.
The product is very nice, and we're interested in it, but the cost is our of our ballpark.
The company was pleasant and nice. I love the product but I had to make a quick decision to put the roof on.
They have to bring down the price. The quote I got was very, very high.
They could improve by responding to phone calls. I made ten calls and still don't have any good answers. I'm very dissatisfied! I paid $24,290 and I'm very, very unsatisfied with the roof's performance! Update 1/30/18: The office administrator, Sarah Hamlin, and Allen Gessell gave me nothing but the run-around and I'm very unsatisfied with those two employees.
Connecting the green house to the actual house. It isn't the prettiest of end results. They could also doa recommendation to get a plumber out to connect the lines to the back of the house so that the back looks cleaner.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Oak Brook
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Oak Brook, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Oak Brook.
Will a metal roof hold up to Oak Brook's freeze-thaw winters?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when exposed to temperature cycling, which is why Interlock roofs perform in climates with about 82 freeze-thaw days per year like yours. Unlike asphalt that becomes brittle and cracks, or wood that splits, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both panel sides adds 30-year protection against environmental breakdown. DuPage County's typical freeze-thaw stress is where aluminum's molecular stability shows its edge over materials that degrade from repeated ice-melt cycles.
How does a metal roof handle Oak Brook snowfall and ice dams?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth, hard surface offers no purchase for adhesion—unlike asphalt's rough texture that traps moisture. Oak Brook averages about 73 centimeters of snow annually; the panel weight (~0.41 lb/sq ft for Slate, ~0.58 for Shake) means no structural upgrade needed even under full snow load. Snow guards are available if you prefer controlled shedding. The tight mechanical lock between panels prevents ice backup from migrating under seams, addressing the ice-dam risk that develops during the freeze-thaw cycles typical of your region.
Can a metal roof survive DuPage County wind gusts?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above the typical gusts of 97 km/h recorded in Oak Brook. Each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing lateral force across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. This is verified in ICC-ES ESR-1790 (reissued 2025). Your region's mean daily-max winds of about 19 km/h pose no stress to the system; even the rare severe weather event stays within the warranty limit.
Why won't an aluminum roof rust in Illinois weather?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the material that oxidizes in steel roofing. Instead, a microscopically thin aluminum oxide forms on the surface and self-heals when scratched or exposed to weather. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. Even in humid climates or near saltwater, aluminum's corrosion resistance outperforms steel, copper, and galvanized metals. In Oak Brook's ~993 mm annual rainfall and temperate conditions, this means your roof will never rust—a guarantee no asphalt or organic material can match.
Does a metal roof hold up in hail, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. DuPage County's weather records suggest hail risk is present but not extreme; the non-combustible aluminum and proven impact resistance often qualify for insurance discounts, though you should confirm with your carrier. The combination of durability, Class A fire rating availability, and low maintenance appeals to insurers. Request a quotation after installation and bring the UL 2218 rating and warranty documentation to your agent.
Does a metal roof need structural reinforcement for my home?
No. Interlock Slate installs at approximately 0.41 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural upgrades are required. The Mediterranean Tile profile, designed to mimic heavy tile, weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft, yet delivers authentic visual weight without the engineering cost. Many homes can even accept an Interlock roof installed directly over an existing asphalt layer, avoiding tear-off expenses. This lightweight advantage is especially valuable for older Oak Brook homes where reinforcing joists or trusses would be disruptive and costly.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Interlock aluminum requires no annual inspections, no resealing, no replacement of degraded fasteners, and no clearing of debris buildup like asphalt does. The smooth, hard Alunar-coated surface sheds leaves and dirt in rain; annual gutters cleaning remains your only task. Compare that to asphalt's 10–15 year replacement cycle, wood shakes' seasonal treatment needs, or concrete tile's mortar and moss maintenance. The Guardian Warranty (non-prorated for the original owner) covers defects, not wear—a reflection of the material's stability. Over a 50-year ownership, maintenance cost for Interlock is negligible versus organic roofing materials.
What's the real warranty coverage and how long does the roof last?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—defects that plague asphalt and wood. If you sell, the warranty transfers once, giving the new owner 50 years of protection. Manufacturing since 1998 means real-world data exists; Interlock roofs operate from coastal salt-air environments to an Antarctic research station. In Oak Brook's moderate climate with about 3,051 sunshine hours and ~993 mm rain per year, the roof will outlast multiple asphalt cycles. Homeowners who install at age 45 can reasonably expect coverage into their 90s.
Who installs Interlock roofing in Oak Brook, and how quickly?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served the DuPage County region since 2001, combining factory training with two decades of local installation experience. The company handles everything from initial assessment through final trim, managing the entire process so you're not coordinating multiple contractors. Installation timeline depends on your roof size and whether we're installing over existing shingles (faster, no tear-off) or after removal. Most residential projects complete within 2–5 days. Contact Interlock directly for a site visit; they'll provide a firm timeline and cost based on your specific home.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect the heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. In a region averaging about 3,051 sunshine hours annually, this reflectance matters. You won't achieve dramatic savings in Oak Brook's temperate climate (mean 10.5°C), but summer attic temperatures will run noticeably cooler. The cool-roof effect compounds over time—lower attic heat means reduced HVAC strain, especially during the 4–5 warmest weeks. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms these properties independently, not through manufacturer claims.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Oak Brook’s climate?
Yes. Oak Brook averages about 73 cm of snow, 993 mm of rain, roughly 82 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
