Review: June 29, 2017Completion: March 23, 2017

I would never recommend Interlock Roofing. Interlock Roofing could have improved on customer service from start to finish. The customer is always right. I am not here for you. I did not ask you to come to my house and take money out of my pocket to put your roof on my house. It is a sales issue. It is not me for you, it is you for me. When you call Interlock, you are calling to an answering center. I wanted to talk to tech support or someone at the manufacturing plant. Al's Roofing is the one that installed Interlock Roofing shingles. 3 month's later, I am still getting riled up. Al is in Minnesota and needs notice before coming to your house since he is states away. He has crews to come out. Interlock Roofing is just a name and not a manufacturer. What is the guarantee that the color won't come off after exposed to UV rays? Mark said that they would send us a visa gift card for any restaurant. John sent a Gift Card that was already used to a terrible restaurant. We received a gift card that had $102 dollars for a remaining balance. It was originally a $200 gift card. That is not a gift card to your favorite restaurant. The first time the materials arrived, the box said Green. Jessie should have made sure it was the right order. They should have fixed it at that point instead of installing the roof. We had to wait 7-8 days for them to come back out and re install the roof, and then at that time fix the Ivy flashing. I talked to Jessie and he said, "the guys install it differently based on the flashing and what you can see. The guys didn't think you would be able to see how they installed it because of a tree." You should get quality people that know how to install the roofing and the flashing. It would be different if Interlock Roofing made the roofing, had their own tech support, and everything. We are still waiting on Al to call back to let us know when they are going to comeback. I should not have to get up on my own roof to identify each bad tile. I think when the tiles were put into the box, they rubbed up against each other and rubbed off the color. It is either a packaging problem or a manufacturing problem. My concern is if it was a packaging problem, then what is my guarantee that the color will last on my roof. Al said that he will back the warranty, but what happens if Al goes out of business. What happens to my warranty? I found the invoice that Interlock charges. $177 sqft per square from Interlock Roofing. How much are you charging the customer? $177 times 15 would be the cost of the materials right there. Are we paying for the warranty as the additional cost? I can easily take that information, go online, and create my own website to bash Interlock. I know how much everything costs, and I wouldn't be feeling this way if it hadn't been for the customer service I received.I feel like we have been screwed from the beginning. I also noticed on the invoice, that Interlock charges the customer for the sign and stand. Why is that? I did ask Al if we were charged for the sign, and he avoided the question and then changed the subject.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Woodridge

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Woodridge, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Woodridge.

Will a metal roof handle Woodridge's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or failing?

Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw climates. DuPage County experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days annually, and aluminum's crystalline structure actually strengthens under repeated temperature swings rather than degrading. Unlike asphalt or wood, which absorb moisture and fracture when ice forms inside them, aluminum is non-porous and sheds water completely. The four-way interlocking panels (ESR-1790 rated) remain flexible and watertight even as temperatures swing between below zero and above freezing—a cycle that typically cracks slate, splits cedar shake, and causes asphalt to blister.

Can an aluminum roof rust or corrode in Illinois weather?

Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, so the electrochemical reaction that turns steel orange simply cannot occur. What aluminum does form is an oxide layer on its surface, which actually protects the metal underneath. When this layer gets scratched, it self-heals within hours, sealing the new surface. Your roof receives Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested), so the underlying aluminum stays shielded through Woodridge's roughly 1102 mm of annual rainfall and the occasional salt-laden winter conditions.

How does a metal roof handle snow buildup and ice dams in Woodridge winters?

Metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, hard surface resists snow adhesion—especially important when Woodridge receives about 70 cm of snow per year. The panels' interlocking design (four-way lock) prevents water from backing up under edges, and your installer can fit snow guards at gutters if you want to retain snow for insulation or gradual melt. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft versus heavy slate or tile) means your roof won't sag under snow load, and the panels won't develop the ice-dam weak points that plague asphalt, where heat loss melts snow unevenly and refreezing traps water inside the roof.

What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance premium?

Interlock carries UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many Illinois homeowners have seen insurance premium reductions or discounts after installing a Class 4-rated metal roof, though your agent will need to verify coverage. Given that Illinois experiences occasional severe weather with gusts to 102 km/h and hail risk, this durability record often impresses insurers. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the impact-perforation warranty details; some carriers offer a 5–10% break for verified hail-resistant roofs.

Will a metal roof stay secure in Woodridge's spring and winter wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, well above DuPage County's typical gust speeds of 102 km/h (about 63 mph). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, preventing uplift or separation. During installation, panels are mechanically fastened to the decking using sealant-embedded fasteners that move slightly with thermal expansion, absorbing gust stress rather than creating a stress point. This design has proven reliable through decades of coastal installations and even Antarctic research stations where wind and metal expansion are constant challenges.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof, or can it install over my existing roof?

No structural reinforcement needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing asphalt or wood roofs without additional framing. Your existing structure already supports the snow load (about 70 cm annually in Woodridge), which is heavier than any metal panel profile. This lightweight advantage means faster installation, no expensive carpentry, and the option to retain your current roof as an insulating underlayer. Your installer will assess your specific deck and existing roof condition, but in most Woodridge homes, the job stays within the original structural design.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof really need compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal requires far less maintenance than asphalt or tile. You won't replace shingles every 15–20 years, reseal seams, or pressure-wash accumulated debris and moss. In Woodridge's climate with about 1102 mm rain and 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year, asphalt deteriorates quickly from thermal cycling and UV exposure, while wood tile splits and curls. Aluminum doesn't rot, crack, or curl. Rinse leaves and gutters once or twice yearly; that's essentially it. The Alunar coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, and the 30-year warranty on the finish means you're protected against fading. Most Interlock owners report spending less time and money on roof care over the roof's life than homeowners with conventional materials.

Can a metal roof actually reduce my cooling costs, and is it worth the price difference?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock's rated colors achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) and 0.84 thermal emissivity, reflecting rather than absorbing the heat that asphalt absorbs. Over Woodridge's roughly 3056 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance keeps your attic cooler, reducing air conditioning load in summer. Savings vary by color, insulation, and usage, but many homeowners report 10–15% cooling reductions. Combined with the roof's 50+ year lifespan (versus asphalt's 15–20 years and the cost of multiple replacements), the upfront investment often pays for itself through energy savings plus elimination of replacement cycles—this is your last roof.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost for a Woodridge home?

Compare total lifetime cost, not just installation price. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years; over 50 years you'll reroof 2–3 times. Metal installs once. The Guardian Warranty—lifetime limited for the original owner, 50 years transferable—covers defects in material and workmanship. Your insurance may lower premiums for the Class 4 hail rating. Energy savings from reflective coatings offset some cost in a sunny climate like DuPage's (3056 hours annually). Recyclability (~95% of aluminum) eliminates landfill costs. When you add durability through 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles, roughly 1102 mm rainfall, and 102 km/h gusts, the single installation becomes the more economical choice—this is the last roof you buy.

Does Interlock have a local installer in Woodridge, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Woodridge region since 2001, giving them over 20 years of hands-on experience with DuPage County's freeze-thaw cycles, snow loads, and wind patterns. That tenure means they've installed hundreds of roofs through Illinois winters and springs, understand local building codes, and maintain relationships with municipal inspectors. Local installers also ensure faster service if issues arise and can assess your specific home's conditions—existing deck condition, attic ventilation, gutter setup—rather than applying a generic template. Call to discuss your roof, get references from local Woodridge customers, and ask about their ESR-1790 compliance and warranty administration.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Woodridge’s climate?

Yes. Woodridge averages about 70 cm of snow, 1102 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 102 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
