I would never recommend Interlock Roofing. Interlock Roofing could have improved on customer service from start to finish. The customer is always right. I am not here for you. I did not ask you to come to my house and take money out of my pocket to put your roof on my house. It is a sales issue. It is not me for you, it is you for me. When you call Interlock, you are calling to an answering center. I wanted to talk to tech support or someone at the manufacturing plant. Al's Roofing is the one that installed Interlock Roofing shingles. 3 month's later, I am still getting riled up. Al is in Minnesota and needs notice before coming to your house since he is states away. He has crews to come out. Interlock Roofing is just a name and not a manufacturer. What is the guarantee that the color won't come off after exposed to UV rays? Mark said that they would send us a visa gift card for any restaurant. John sent a Gift Card that was already used to a terrible restaurant. We received a gift card that had $102 dollars for a remaining balance. It was originally a $200 gift card. That is not a gift card to your favorite restaurant. The first time the materials arrived, the box said Green. Jessie should have made sure it was the right order. They should have fixed it at that point instead of installing the roof. We had to wait 7-8 days for them to come back out and re install the roof, and then at that time fix the Ivy flashing. I talked to Jessie and he said, "the guys install it differently based on the flashing and what you can see. The guys didn't think you would be able to see how they installed it because of a tree." You should get quality people that know how to install the roofing and the flashing. It would be different if Interlock Roofing made the roofing, had their own tech support, and everything. We are still waiting on Al to call back to let us know when they are going to comeback. I should not have to get up on my own roof to identify each bad tile. I think when the tiles were put into the box, they rubbed up against each other and rubbed off the color. It is either a packaging problem or a manufacturing problem. My concern is if it was a packaging problem, then what is my guarantee that the color will last on my roof. Al said that he will back the warranty, but what happens if Al goes out of business. What happens to my warranty? I found the invoice that Interlock charges. $177 sqft per square from Interlock Roofing. How much are you charging the customer? $177 times 15 would be the cost of the materials right there. Are we paying for the warranty as the additional cost? I can easily take that information, go online, and create my own website to bash Interlock. I know how much everything costs, and I wouldn't be feeling this way if it hadn't been for the customer service I received.I feel like we have been screwed from the beginning. I also noticed on the invoice, that Interlock charges the customer for the sign and stand. Why is that? I did ask Al if we were charged for the sign, and he avoided the question and then changed the subject.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Downers Grove Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Downers Grove Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Downers Grove Township.

Will a metal roof hold up through Illinois winters with all that freeze-thaw cycling?

Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or absorbing moisture. Downers Grove averages about 82 freeze-thaw days per year, which devastates asphalt and wood shakes but poses no threat to aluminum. The material's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so even repeated thermal stress leaves the coating intact. Combined with the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years), your roof resists the exact seasonal swings that age traditional materials.

How does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice dams in DuPage County winters?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because of its smooth, interlocking surface and low thermal mass. Downers Grove receives about 73 cm of snow annually, and aluminum's light weight means no structural reinforcement is needed—even if snow accumulates. The four-way interlocking panels prevent water infiltration if ice does back up, and snow guards can be installed at eaves if desired. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs heat and creates ice-dam conditions, metal reflects solar energy, reducing the freeze-thaw cycle that traps moisture.

Do metal roofs really resist hail better, and could that lower my insurance premium?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because hail claims drop dramatically. While DuPage County hail risk varies seasonally, your non-combustible aluminum roof (Class A fire-rated) may also qualify for additional premium reductions. Check with your carrier; several regional insurers recognize the durability and claims-reduction value of metal roofing, especially when you file the UL 2218 certification with your policy.

Is aluminum roofing really rustproof, or will it corrode over time?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—only roofing-grade 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209). Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that forms naturally and self-heals when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides adds a second barrier against corrosion, warranted 30 years. In Downers Grove's humid Midwest climate with about 73 cm of snow and 993 mm of rain annually, this dual protection means your roof won't degrade the way steel roofing does. Interlock has installed panels from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica—if it survives salt spray, Illinois moisture is no challenge.

Can metal roofing withstand the wind gusts we get in Illinois storms?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec. Downers Grove's typical gusts reach about 97 km/h (60 mph), with occasional severe-weather events, so you're well within the design margin. The interlocking design—where each panel locks on all four sides—distributes wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering is why the warranty covers wind damage when installed correctly, giving you peace of mind during the spring and fall storm seasons DuPage County experiences.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure before installing metal?

No. The Interlock Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no reinforcement is needed. Even the heavier Shake profile comes in at just 0.58 lb/sq ft, and the Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most homes can support these loads over existing asphalt without modification. Because the material is so light, installation is faster and less disruptive, and you avoid the $5,000–$15,000 structural upgrades that traditional tile demands. This is especially valuable in older Downers Grove homes, where adding weight would require expensive engineering and framing work.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning—no replacing cracked shakes, no resealing, no algae treatment. Asphalt shingles need attention every 5–10 years; wood shakes demand annual inspection and moss control. Aluminum won't split, curl, or rot, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish resists fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 rated for 30 years). Downers Grove's 82 annual freeze-thaw days and about 3,051 sunshine hours will age asphalt noticeably; your metal roof remains stable. Over a 50-year roof life, this translates to thousands of dollars saved in repairs and resealing that asphalt homeowners face.

Will a metal roof actually reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose energy-efficient colors. These coatings achieve thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (like Aged Copper Penny), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the difference. Downers Grove gets about 3,051 sunshine hours annually, so summer cooling load is real. A reflective metal roof can lower attic temperatures by 10–20 degrees Fahrenheit compared to dark asphalt, reducing air-conditioning run time and cost. The payback comes faster in homes with high cooling demand, though the energy benefit is secondary to the 50-year durability you're gaining.

What exactly does the lifetime warranty cover, and what happens if I sell the house?

The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a real curb-appeal advantage when selling. Material-only coverage (labor excluded) for life is rare in roofing; asphalt warranties are 20–30 years and prorated. Since Interlock roofs last 50+ years in the field, the warranty aligns with actual performance. For Downers Grove homeowners, this means your roof investment is protected through ownership changes, which builds buyer confidence and often offsets the higher upfront cost versus asphalt.

Does Interlock Metal Roofing actually serve Downers Grove, and how long have they been doing this?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served the DuPage County region since 2001 and installs across Downers Grove Township. The company manufactures its panels in Delta, BC, and has been shipping from there since 1998, so the supply chain is proven. Local installation means faster response times, warranty support, and knowledge of how Illinois freeze-thaw and snow loads affect roofs in your area. When you call for a quote or inspection, you're working with installers who understand Downers Grove's specific climate—about 993 mm rain, 73 cm snow, and 82 freeze-thaw days annually—and how to design a roof that handles it all.
