I would never recommend Interlock Roofing. Interlock Roofing could have improved on customer service from start to finish. The customer is always right. I am not here for you. I did not ask you to come to my house and take money out of my pocket to put your roof on my house. It is a sales issue. It is not me for you, it is you for me. When you call Interlock, you are calling to an answering center. I wanted to talk to tech support or someone at the manufacturing plant. Al's Roofing is the one that installed Interlock Roofing shingles. 3 month's later, I am still getting riled up. Al is in Minnesota and needs notice before coming to your house since he is states away. He has crews to come out. Interlock Roofing is just a name and not a manufacturer. What is the guarantee that the color won't come off after exposed to UV rays? Mark said that they would send us a visa gift card for any restaurant. John sent a Gift Card that was already used to a terrible restaurant. We received a gift card that had $102 dollars for a remaining balance. It was originally a $200 gift card. That is not a gift card to your favorite restaurant. The first time the materials arrived, the box said Green. Jessie should have made sure it was the right order. They should have fixed it at that point instead of installing the roof. We had to wait 7-8 days for them to come back out and re install the roof, and then at that time fix the Ivy flashing. I talked to Jessie and he said, "the guys install it differently based on the flashing and what you can see. The guys didn't think you would be able to see how they installed it because of a tree." You should get quality people that know how to install the roofing and the flashing. It would be different if Interlock Roofing made the roofing, had their own tech support, and everything. We are still waiting on Al to call back to let us know when they are going to comeback. I should not have to get up on my own roof to identify each bad tile. I think when the tiles were put into the box, they rubbed up against each other and rubbed off the color. It is either a packaging problem or a manufacturing problem. My concern is if it was a packaging problem, then what is my guarantee that the color will last on my roof. Al said that he will back the warranty, but what happens if Al goes out of business. What happens to my warranty? I found the invoice that Interlock charges. $177 sqft per square from Interlock Roofing. How much are you charging the customer? $177 times 15 would be the cost of the materials right there. Are we paying for the warranty as the additional cost? I can easily take that information, go online, and create my own website to bash Interlock. I know how much everything costs, and I wouldn't be feeling this way if it hadn't been for the customer service I received.I feel like we have been screwed from the beginning. I also noticed on the invoice, that Interlock charges the customer for the sign and stand. Why is that? I did ask Al if we were charged for the sign, and he avoided the question and then changed the subject.

Review: January 29, 2018 Completion: October 31, 2017

They could improve by responding to phone calls. I made ten calls and still don't have any good answers. I'm very dissatisfied! I paid $24,290 and I'm very, very unsatisfied with the roof's performance! Update 1/30/18: The office administrator, Sarah Hamlin, and Allen Gessell gave me nothing but the run-around and I'm very unsatisfied with those two employees.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Clarendon Hills

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Clarendon Hills.

Will a metal roof hold up through Clarendon Hills winters with all those freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes, aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron and cannot rust. With about 82 freeze-thaw days per year in DuPage County, that matters: traditional materials like wood shake and asphalt break down when water gets into cracks and expands. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so it stays intact through repeated temperature swings. The 30-year Alunar coating on both panel sides (ESR-1790 certified) adds another layer of protection against the 73 cm of snow and 993 mm of rain your area receives annually.

How does metal roofing handle snow load and ice dams in Illinois winters?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents snow from adhering and building up. The four-way interlocking panels lock together to handle snow load safely—no gaps for water to work into. With roughly 120 cm of snow per winter in Clarendon Hills, the aluminum's light weight (the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile) means your roof carries the load without structural strain. Many homeowners add snow guards if they want to control where snow slides; the interlocking design supports them easily.

Can metal roofing really keep heavy rain out when it's installed as interlocking panels?

The four-way interlocking design means water has nowhere to go except down and off. With about 993 mm of rain per year in your area, that matters. Each panel locks into the ones beside and below it, creating a labyrinth that stops water penetration at the source. When installed over a solid deck and underlayment (the standard here), the system functions like a traditional roof—sound and tight. The aluminum itself is inert; it won't degrade from constant moisture exposure the way wood or steel would. Proper flashing at valleys, eaves, and penetrations is still essential, but the core material simply doesn't corrode or weaken over time.

Are interlocking metal panels strong enough for the wind gusts we get here?

The panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec—more than enough for Clarendon Hills, where typical gusts reach about 97 km/h (60 mph). The four-way interlock means each panel is physically locked to its neighbors on all four sides; you're not relying on fasteners alone to hold the roof together. The aluminum's rigidity and the panel geometry work together to distribute wind load across the entire roof plane. In the 25+ years Interlock has been installed in North America—from coastal high-wind zones to Antarctic research stations—the panel system has proven itself in extreme conditions far beyond what DuPage County weather throws at it.

Will hail damage a metal roof, and could I save on insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That's engineered resilience, not luck. Class 4 is the same standard insurers use to offer discounts on impact-resistant roofing. Many homeowners see premium reductions after installation; contact your carrier with the UL 2218 certification. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24 and 3003-H24 per ASTM B209) is much harder than asphalt, so cosmetic dings are rare. Illinois hail seasons are unpredictable, but when hail does fall, metal roofing typically comes out unscathed while asphalt roofs develop punctures that lead to leaks and early replacement.

Why can't aluminum roofing rust like steel does?

Aluminum contains no iron—iron is what rusts. The material itself cannot oxidize in the way steel does. What forms instead is a thin, self-healing aluminum oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. When the panel gets scratched (from installation or a branch), the oxide layer reforms automatically; you don't get the spreading corrosion you see with steel roofing. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) sits on top of that oxide layer, giving you two layers of protection. With 993 mm of rain and 73 cm of snow annually in Clarendon Hills, that dual protection means your roof stays intact for decades without the maintenance steel would demand.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing costs more upfront but ends the cycle of replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years. You're buying the last roof you'll install. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited (non-prorated for the original owner), covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact damage. That's one installation, one set of labor costs, one hassle—then the roof outlasts the house. Asphalt shingles require tear-off and landfill disposal twice or three times in the same timeframe. When you add 25+ years of avoided replacements, disposal costs, and the energy savings from energy-efficient colors reflecting heat your asphalt roof would absorb during 3051 annual sunshine hours, the math favors metal. Plus, metal roofing adds resale value while asphalt doesn't.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Aluminum is about 95% recyclable; at end of life (far longer than asphalt), it goes back into the manufacturing stream rather than a landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off and discarded every 15–20 years—an endless cycle of waste. Over 50 years, you'd remove three asphalt roofs to the landfill but only one metal roof. The aluminum is manufactured in Delta, BC, and recycled aluminum requires a fraction of the energy new aluminum does. The lightweight design (the Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means lower transportation fuel consumption compared to concrete or clay tile. CALGreen building standards recognize metal roofing for reduced maintenance waste. In a region that receives 993 mm of rain and 73 cm of snow annually—conditions that accelerate asphalt breakdown—metal's durability directly reduces environmental impact over the roof's life.

What exactly does Interlock's lifetime warranty cover, and how long is it really good for?

The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That means no decline in coverage over time; a defect in year 20 is covered the same as year 2. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which adds resale appeal. The aluminum material itself doesn't degrade (it has no rust pathway), and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating carries its own 30-year protection against fading. In practical terms, with freeze-thaw cycles (about 82 per year), heavy rainfall (993 mm), and snow load (73 cm) common to Clarendon Hills, a metal roof typically outlasts the house. The warranty is a promise backed by a manufacturer in business since 1998 and installed at Antarctic research stations—conditions far harsher than Illinois winters.

How long does installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity; the exact timeline comes from your local Interlock installer serving DuPage County since 2001. One major advantage: metal roofing installs over most existing roofs. Asphalt shingles are stripped and hauled away; metal panels go right over the old deck and underlayment. That saves labor, disposal costs, and weather risk. The lightweight panels (Tile profile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay) don't require structural reinforcement even when layered over existing material. Your installer will assess deck condition, ensure proper ventilation, and install flashing at valleys and penetrations. The process is cleaner and faster than a traditional tear-off, which matters when you want to avoid weeks of your roof being open to the elements during Clarendon Hills' 993 mm annual rainfall.
