☆☆☆☆
Review: June 29, 2017 Completion: March 23, 2017

I would never recommend Interlock Roofing. Interlock Roofing could have improved on customer service from start to finish. The customer is always right. I am not here for you. I did not ask you to come to my house and take money out of my pocket to put your roof on my house. It is a sales issue. It is not me for you, it is you for me. When you call Interlock, you are calling to an answering center. I wanted to talk to tech support or someone at the manufacturing plant. Al's Roofing is the one that installed Interlock Roofing shingles. 3 month's later, I am still getting riled up. Al is in Minnesota and needs notice before coming to your house since he is states away. He has crews to come out. Interlock Roofing is just a name and not a manufacturer. What is the guarantee that the color won't come off after exposed to UV rays? Mark said that they would send us a visa gift card for any restaurant. John sent a Gift Card that was already used to a terrible restaurant. We received a gift card that had $102 dollars for a remaining balance. It was originally a $200 gift card. That is not a gift card to your favorite restaurant. The first time the materials arrived, the box said Green. Jessie should have made sure it was the right order. They should have fixed it at that point instead of installing the roof. We had to wait 7-8 days for them to come back out and re install the roof, and then at that time fix the Ivy flashing. I talked to Jessie and he said, "the guys install it differently based on the flashing and what you can see. The guys didn't think you would be able to see how they installed it because of a tree." You should get quality people that know how to install the roofing and the flashing. It would be different if Interlock Roofing made the roofing, had their own tech support, and everything. We are still waiting on Al to call back to let us know when they are going to comeback. I should not have to get up on my own roof to identify each bad tile. I think when the tiles were put into the box, they rubbed up against each other and rubbed off the color. It is either a packaging problem or a manufacturing problem. My concern is if it was a packaging problem, then what is my guarantee that the color will last on my roof. Al said that he will back the warranty, but what happens if Al goes out of business. What happens to my warranty? I found the invoice that Interlock charges. $177 sqft per square from Interlock Roofing. How much are you charging the customer? $177 times 15 would be the cost of the materials right there. Are we paying for the warranty as the additional cost? I can easily take that information, go online, and create my own website to bash Interlock. I know how much everything costs, and I wouldn't be feeling this way if it hadn't been for the customer service I received.I feel like we have been screwed from the beginning. I also noticed on the invoice, that Interlock charges the customer for the sign and stand. Why is that? I did ask Al if we were charged for the sign, and he avoided the question and then changed the subject.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Downers Grove

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Downers Grove, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Downers Grove.

Will metal roofing hold up to Downers Grove's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Interlock aluminum panels expand and contract with temperature swings, but aluminum's crystalline structure and the four-way interlocking system absorb this stress without cracking, splitting, or curling—problems that plague asphalt and wood shingles through roughly 82 freeze-thaw days per year here. The self-healing oxide layer on the 3105-H24 aluminum protects against the salt and corrosive compounds spread on winter roads. Unlike slate or shake, which fracture under repeated freezing, aluminum flexes with seasonal changes.

How does a metal roof handle Downers Grove's snow load and ice dams?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice efficiently because its smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion and reduces the friction that traps snow on asphalt. With about 73 centimeters of snow per year, proper snow guards—installed as part of the system—manage slides safely. The lightweight profile (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) carries snow loads without structural stress, and the interlocking panels channel meltwater away from valleys where ice dams form. Asphalt absorbs heat and accelerates thaw-freeze cycles; metal reflects it.

Do metal roofs leak in heavy rain, especially with 1,000 mm of annual rainfall?

No. Downers Grove receives about 993 millimeters of rain annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking system channels water downslope without pooling or seeping through panel seams. The solid deck and underlayment eliminate the granule washout and mat deterioration that make asphalt shingles vulnerable to leaks over time. Each panel locks tight to its neighbors—no exposed fasteners, no gaps. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms the system meets IBC/IRC water-tightness standards for any rainfall rate.

Can Interlock metal roofing withstand Downers Grove wind gusts?

Yes. Local wind gusts reach approximately 97 kilometers per hour, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 miles per hour (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking geometry distributes lateral force across the entire panel system rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. This design delivers superior wind performance compared to shingle-based systems, where individual units can separate under gust pressure. UL testing confirms Class 4 impact rating and validated wind ratings.

Does Interlock's hail rating qualify me for insurance discounts in Illinois?

Potentially. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many Illinois insurers recognize non-combustible, Class 4-rated roofs and offer premium reductions for impact-resistant materials. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating and ESR-1790 documentation; some carriers provide 5-15% discounts. Metal roofing's durability reduces claims frequency, making it attractive to underwriters.

Why doesn't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel, and does it matter in Illinois?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes when exposed to oxygen and moisture. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, continuously protecting the base metal beneath. Downers Grove's winter salt and road chemicals cannot trigger rust on aluminum as they do on steel roofing. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides, 30-year warranty) adds a second barrier. This combination makes aluminum ideal for climates with repeated freeze-thaw stress and corrosive winter conditions.

Can a metal roof actually lower cooling costs in the Chicago area?

Yes, though cooling demand is modest in Downers Grove. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting the sun's heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt shingles do. With about 3,051 sunshine hours annually, this reflection reduces heat gain year-round. During summer, reflected energy means lower air-conditioning load. The payback from energy savings compounds when combined with the roof's 50+ year lifespan, making long-term operating costs substantially lower than asphalt's.

Does a metal roof need structural reinforcement, or can it go over my existing roof?

No reinforcement needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it loads your existing framing like asphalt shingles do. Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without adding structural supports or modifying trusses. This saves tens of thousands in framing upgrades that slate or tile would require. The light weight also means faster installation: crews handle panels easily, and labor time shrinks compared to traditional materials, reducing overall project cost and home disruption.

What makes Interlock's lifetime warranty different from asphalt shingle warranties?

The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated and covers material defects—rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—for the original owner's lifetime. After sale, the next owner receives a 50-year transferable term, adding resale appeal. Asphalt warranties typically expire in 15-25 years and decline in value annually. Interlock aluminum, manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, demonstrates durability across extreme climates—from coastal salt air to Antarctic research stations. You purchase this roof expecting to never buy another; that confidence is backed in writing.

Is metal roofing truly more sustainable than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum; at end of life, they enter aluminum recycling streams and become new products rather than landfill waste. Asphalt shingles—roughly 20 million tons annually in North America—decompose over decades in landfills, releasing volatile compounds. Removing and replacing asphalt every 15-20 years creates repeated tear-off debris; Interlock's 50+ year lifespan eliminates that cycle. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance profile further cuts environmental impact by eliminating cleaning chemicals and repair materials. Choosing Interlock reduces your home's lifecycle footprint significantly.
