Review: July 19, 2021 Completion: August 14, 2019

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation

Review: January 18, 2021 Completion: December 20, 2020

Keeping tarp right by the house to collect falling metal pieces and nails. I wouldn't want my dogs to step on the metal pieces. We understood that the supervisor would come to check on the project throughout the whole process. Perhaps we misunderstood, but my daughter was the only one who saw him after the project was completed. I am glad you sent me this survey so I can feel that someone in the company is interested in my feelings about the results. This new roof cost a lot of money and I want to feel absolutely positive that it is perfect and that if I have concerns they are addressed in a timely manner.

The job site was generally cleaned at the end of the day. But far too much stuff was tossed off the roof into our planters with little regard. The area could and should have been scoured for a better final clean up. The roof itself is absolutely beautiful and I am very pleased with it.

This is to inform you of our satisfaction with the new Interlock roof on our home and to express an even greater satisfaction in the relationship with your staff during the entire process. Wayne Grant was very informative and courteous with his presentation and in filling out all the necessary paperwork to get started. Fred and his crew of installers were very professional and kept me totally informed on all aspects of the installation. The site was kept very clean as they worked and was totally cleaned each day before they left. Fred showed considerable concern in our satisfaction in all areas. Thank you for all your help

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cape Neddick

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cape Neddick, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cape Neddick.

How does a metal roof handle Cape Neddick's 110 cm of annual snow?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because the smooth, hard-anodized surface offers minimal friction compared to asphalt shingles; however, snow retention depends on panel profile and pitch. Interlock's four-way interlocking design, warranted for 120 mph winds, anchors panels securely so heavy snow loads don't compromise the roof's integrity. Cape Neddick averages about 80 freeze-thaw cycles yearly, which is exactly where aluminum excels: its oxide layer self-heals microscopic cracks from repeated freezing and thawing, unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle and splits under that stress. Optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer controlled shedding.

Why is freeze-thaw cycling in Maine a reason to choose metal over asphalt?

Asphalt shingles absorb moisture and crack when frozen; aluminum does not. Interlock panels are manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust or rot. With roughly 80 freeze-thaw days annually and about 1013 mm of rainfall, Cape Neddick subjects roofs to relentless wet-cold cycles. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer actually strengthens with minor damage rather than degrading. This material science advantage translates directly into a roof that outlasts traditional shingles by decades without brittleness, delamination, or structural failure.

Can a metal roof rust in coastal Maine?

No—Interlock aluminum roofing cannot rust because aluminum contains no iron; it is physically impossible for this material to corrode into rust. Instead, aluminum develops an invisible oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. To ensure maximum durability in salt-air environments like Cape Neddick, Interlock applies the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both the top and underside of every panel, warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading. This two-sided protection, combined with the metal's inherent corrosion resistance, is why Interlock systems have been installed in coastal salt-air homes and even an Antarctic research station since 1998. Steel roofing rusts; aluminum simply does not.

Will a metal roof hold up to Cape Neddick's coastal wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Cape Neddick's typical wind gusts reach about 135 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to handle those loads. The interlocking mechanism distributes wind pressure across the entire roof system rather than concentrating force on individual fasteners. The roof's lightweight design (the Shingle profile installs at only 0.41 lb/sq ft) also reduces uplift forces compared to heavy materials. Combined with proper installation and optional hurricane ties, this system provides confidence against the coastal storms and nor'easters that characterize York County.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof in Maine?

No structural reinforcement is needed, even for profiles that replicate heavy materials. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for instance, is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, installing at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft. This extraordinary lightness allows installation directly over most existing roofs, eliminating costly structural work. In Cape Neddick, where homes may be decades old and bear cumulative weathering from 110 cm of annual snow and salt air, avoiding reinforcement saves thousands while actually reducing long-term structural stress. The four-way interlocking system distributes the minimal load evenly across the roof deck, ensuring that both new construction and renovations proceed without the framing upgrades that slate, tile, or standing-seam steel would demand.

Does hail damage metal roofing, and could I save on insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This exceptional durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts, particularly in regions prone to severe weather. Maine's freeze-thaw cycles and coastal storms create conditions where impact resistance matters; a Class 4 rating demonstrates that your roof can withstand impacts that would compromise asphalt shingles or pierce lesser metal systems. When renewing homeowners insurance, many carriers reduce premiums for Class 4 metal roofs because the risk of weather-related claims drops dramatically. It's worth asking your agent about discounts available once your Interlock system is installed.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This warranty structure reflects the reality: Interlock aluminum roofs last 50+ years as a primary roof, far exceeding the 15–25-year lifespan of asphalt in Maine's climate. The Alunar coating is separately warranted for 30 years against fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), protecting both aesthetic and performance. For a Cape Neddick homeowner, this means your roof will likely outlast your mortgage and still have decades of life remaining—a true last roof investment.

Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt when you look at the total cost over time?

Metal costs more upfront but dramatically less over the life of the roof. Asphalt shingles require replacement every 15–25 years; a typical Cape Neddick home may need 2–3 full tear-offs and re-roofing in 50 years, plus ongoing maintenance as the roof degrades under freeze-thaw stress and salt air. Interlock requires no tear-off, no replacement, and minimal maintenance—saving landfill disposal costs and labor across decades. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists the 1013 mm annual rainfall and salt spray without deterioration. When you factor lifecycle cost, material longevity, energy efficiency, and avoided labor, metal roofing is typically more economical than repeated asphalt cycles. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—making the initial investment more accessible.

Can a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84. This Cool Roof performance is meaningful in a region with about 3140 annual sunshine hours: reflected solar energy reduces attic temperature, lowering air-conditioning demand during warm months. Maine's moderate summer climate (mean 9.7°C annually) means you won't recoup cooling savings as quickly as southern states, but the benefit compounds over decades, especially as exterior heat from sun exposure accumulates. The reflective coating also reduces thermal stress on the roof material itself, complementing the self-healing oxide layer's ability to handle freeze-thaw cycling. It's a modest but real efficiency gain on top of the roof's primary advantage: durability in your harsh coastal climate.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Cape Neddick?

This installer understands York County's specific challenges: salt-air exposure, heavy snow loads, freeze-thaw cycling, and the permitting environment unique to Cape Neddick. They're familiar with the four-way interlocking installation process, the option to install over existing roofs (avoiding costly tear-offs), and how to position snow guards and flashings to handle your climate. Choosing a local installer with long regional tenure means faster service if questions arise post-installation, accountability rooted in your community, and knowledge earned from hundreds of Maine homes.
