Review: July 19, 2021 Completion: August 14, 2019

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation

Review: April 22, 2003 Completion: March 11, 2003

We just wanted to write and let you know how happy we are with our new Interlock shingle roof. The newly installed roof provides the house with a great “look” and it is performing beautifully. We have had 2 snow storms since the installation, and just as was promoted, the snow comes sliding off after only a few inches of accumulation. We are looking forward to an “ice dam” free winter next year. I would also like to say that the entire process, from estimate to job completion was a pleasant experience. Your salesman was professional and presented the product with facts. There were no high pressure sales tactics which was wonderful. The installation crew was also professional and courteous. They kept the work area neat and clean and went out of their way to make sure we were completely satisfied. In closing, we have, and will continue, to recommend this roofing system to anyone who asks. Thanks for the wonderful, worry free roof.

This is to inform you of our satisfaction with the new Interlock roof on our home and to express an even greater satisfaction in the relationship with your staff during the entire process. Wayne Grant was very informative and courteous with his presentation and in filling out all the necessary paperwork to get started. Fred and his crew of installers were very professional and kept me totally informed on all aspects of the installation. The site was kept very clean as they worked and was totally cleaned each day before they left. Fred showed considerable concern in our satisfaction in all areas. Thank you for all your help

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ogunquit

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ogunquit, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ogunquit.

Will a metal roof hold up through Maine's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum's oxide layer does not crack, spall, or degrade under freeze-thaw stress the way asphalt, wood, and concrete do. Ogunquit experiences roughly 80 freeze-thaw days per year across its 9.7°C mean temperature. Aluminum has no water absorption, so ice cannot form inside the material and force damage. The four-way interlocking panels accommodate thermal expansion without joint separation, and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms performance in freeze-thaw environments.

Why don't aluminum roofs rust in coastal Maine?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When exposed to salt air or moisture, aluminum naturally forms a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—a process that continues indefinitely. Steel roofing depends on paint to prevent rust; once breached, rust spreads. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every Interlock panel, providing 30-year warranty protection against chalking and fading even in salt-spray conditions. This dual-side coating is uncommon and critical in York County's coastal environment.

How does a metal roof perform under Ogunquit's snow load?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents bonding. Ogunquit averages about 110 cm of snow annually. Snow guards can be added to rooflines if you prefer to retain snow for insulation or aesthetics. The four-way interlocking panel system distributes load evenly across the structure. Aluminum's negligible weight—the Cedar Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft—means existing roof framing typically requires no reinforcement, unlike slate or concrete tile that can weigh 10 times more.

Can a metal roof withstand Maine's coastal wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Ogunquit's typical gusts reach 135 km/h (about 84 mph), well within warranty limits. The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, eliminating uplift vectors and distributed load concentration that traditional roofing experiences. This system has performed through hurricane-force conditions in Atlantic Canada since manufacturing began in Delta, BC in 1998.

Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurance carriers offer premium reductions for Class 4 roofing because claims are rare. Aluminum's hardness and elasticity absorb impact without cracking or puncturing the way asphalt shingles, wood shakes, and concrete tile do. While Ogunquit's hail risk is lower than interior regions, this durability translates to lower insurance costs over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.

Do metal roofs help lower cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect rather than absorb the heat that asphalt absorbs. Ogunquit receives about 3140 sunshine hours per year. Cool Roof Rating Council testing confirms measurable temperature reduction in summer months. While heating dominates Maine's energy profile, reflected summer heat lowers air conditioning use and reduces thermal stress on roofing materials, extending service life in the 110 cm annual snow environment where freeze-thaw cycling accelerates degradation.

How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof require?

Virtually none. Metal roofs do not develop moss, algae, or fungal growth like asphalt. They do not split, curl, or lose granules. Annual gutter cleaning applies whether you have metal or asphalt. The Alunar coating resists chalking and fading per ASTM standards for 30 years. Ogunquit's 1013 mm annual rainfall and coastal salt air are precisely the conditions where asphalt, wood, and tile deteriorate fastest and demand frequent repair or replacement. Interlock's aluminum remains stable across that spectrum without sealant reapplication, fungicide treatment, or slate re-pointing.

Can I install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes. The Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This light weight means no structural reinforcement is needed on most homes, and installation typically proceeds directly over existing roofing without tear-off. Removing old asphalt is expensive and sends tonnes to landfill; installing metal over it avoids both costs. This advantage compounds over a 50-year lifespan: you avoid the labor, debris removal, and disposal fees that asphalt replacement demands every 15-20 years.

How long will a metal roof actually last in Maine?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited—non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It is transferable once, giving the next owner a 50-year term from completion. Aluminum does not rot or corrode; the Alunar coating stays intact through Ogunquit's 80 annual freeze-thaw cycles. In practice, installations from 1998 onward remain leak-free and intact. This is the last roof you buy; asphalt requires replacement every 15-20 years, generating recurring cost and landfill waste.

What metal roofing profiles are available in Ogunquit?

Five profiles replicate traditional architectural styles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each is a four-way interlocking aluminum panel manufactured to the same durability standard. Slate and Cedar Shingle suit New England cottages and historic homes. Shake and Mediterranean Tile offer distinctive character. Standing Seam delivers modern lines. All profiles install identically, weigh a fraction of their namesakes, require no structural reinforcement, and carry the same 30-year coating warranty and lifetime limited coverage. Choice is aesthetic; durability is constant across all five.
