I called 4 times with zero response. It was only once I did the survey did they bother calling me back. Was the answering machine just for show? The workers blocked every single exit from our house during construction and did not understand English enough to create a safe entry until we figured out the single English speaker in the crew and even then they consistently blocked all exits. I would like for you to retrain your guys. Don't just sell something but it is good to present something and allow the customer to decide if they are going to proceed or not. I was asking questions and the guy was filling out the application. Present something, allow me to think about it, and then find out if I want to proceed or not. Don't force something on me; that turns me off.

Review: February 8, 2017 Completion: November 29, 2016

Installation process, much room for improvement. The first crew that was on my job change the start date 5 times for various reasons. I was not notified of some of the date changes. Finally, I was called and told they had to give the job to a different crew. That crew showed up on the date and completed the job in a timely manner. The only complaint I have is that one of the men asked my daughter for payment and wanted her to do a walk around the house even though it was dark and she couldn't see. She was upset and called me at work. I would suggest that the crew foreman have all the information regarding method of payment in order to prevent this from happening to anyone else. I was also told by the representative that I could get a discount on my homeowner insurance which was not true. My insurance company had no knowledge of such a discount. He should consider excluding that from his presentation or rephrase the statement. All in all, I would refer Interlock Roofing to my family and friends. I think it was unprofessional to have to change crews after the homeowner has met with them and discussed start time and materials was delivered. The customer need to be able to communicate with the members of the crew.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Avon

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Avon, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Avon.

Will a metal roof handle freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or wood?

Yes—aluminum's oxide layer naturally self-heals when exposed to temperature swings, so it won't crack, curl, or split the way asphalt and wood do. Avon experiences about 84 freeze-thaw days yearly, where moisture enters asphalt seams and expands as it freezes, shortening roof life to 15–20 years. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without trapping water, and the four-way interlocking panels shed moisture instantly. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking and curling—conditions that asphalt simply cannot avoid in your climate.

How does a metal roof handle Avon's snow load and ice dams?

The smooth, slippery surface of aluminum sheds snow and ice far more efficiently than asphalt, which traps moisture and ice. Avon averages about 75 cm of snow annually; metal's low-friction panels allow safe, predictable snow slide-off, reducing the ice-dam buildup that rots wood and leaks into attics. Optional snow guards are available if you prefer gradual melting. The lightweight design—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural concern even when snow briefly sits before sliding. This combination keeps water moving away from your home.

Does a metal roof really stop leaks better in heavy rain?

Metal roofing stops leaks where asphalt fails: the four-way interlocking panels overlap on all sides, and rainfall runs down and away from every seam. Avon receives roughly 1,194 mm of rain yearly across 3,062 sunshine hours; the interlocking geometry means water never pools or backs up under the panels the way it does when asphalt granules wash away or wood shakes split. When installed over solid decking with underlayment (as the installation process requires), the system is indistinguishable in performance from traditional built-up roofs—but without the gutter-clogging debris or shingle loss that heavy rain triggers in asphalt systems.

Can I install a metal roof over my existing roof without reinforcing the structure?

Yes—that's one of aluminum's greatest advantages for homeowners. The Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, weighing just 0.59 lb/sq ft. Even the heaviest Interlock profile is negligible compared to the structural load most homes already handle. You can install directly over existing asphalt without removing it (saving labor and landfill), and no engineer sign-off is needed. The 2025 ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) confirms that Interlock metal roofing meets all building codes for your area without reinforcement, making retrofit installation faster and more affordable than traditional slate or tile.

Will a metal roof hold up to Avon's wind gusts and nor'easters?

Absolutely. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Avon's typical gusts reach about 135 km/h (84 mph) with occasional stronger events. The interlocking geometry means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on all four edges—wind cannot lift or separate them the way it peels asphalt shingles. Norfolk County's turbulent Atlantic-influenced weather won't compromise a properly installed Interlock roof. Homeowners who have experienced ice storms and coastal nor'easters often find the peace of mind from a wind-warranted metal roof worth far more than the premium over asphalt.

Does hail damage metal roofs, and could it help my insurance?

No—Interlock aluminum is rated UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because metal doesn't dent permanently or lose integrity under impact, many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 metal roofs; some homeowners recover half the installation cost in lower premiums over ten years. While Avon doesn't experience severe hail as frequently as inland areas, the Class 4 rating means you're protected whether a freak storm arrives or a branch falls during nor'easters. Submit your Interlock documentation and impact rating to your insurer—they appreciate non-combustible, impact-resistant materials.

What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof in Massachusetts?

The Guardian warranty covers the original owner for life (non-prorated on materials), and it transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That's two generations of security. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed in environments from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica; roofs installed in the 1990s are still performing. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty (ASTM D4214 measured) protects against chalking and fading through Avon's 3,062 annual sunshine hours and freeze-thaw cycling. Unlike asphalt (15–20 years) or wood (20–30 years), a properly installed aluminum roof will likely outlast your ownership, making it genuinely the last roof you'll buy.

Why don't aluminum roofs rust like steel, especially near salt air?

Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that's microscopically thin and self-healing; when scratched, it reforms automatically. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is paired with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, doubly protecting against salt spray and moisture. This dual-coating approach is especially important for Avon's northeastern climate with 1,194 mm annual rainfall and wind gusts carrying salt from coastal regions. Steel roofing requires paint maintenance and rusts from scratches; aluminum simply doesn't.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?

Almost none. Asphalt requires annual gutter cleaning from granule shedding, re-sealing, and shingle replacement by year 15–20. Wood requires staining, mold treatment, and split-shingle repair. Metal roofing requires occasional gutter inspection and debris removal—that's it. The ESR-1790 evaluation report verifies Interlock as CALGreen-compliant for reduced maintenance. Your roof won't absorb moisture like wood, won't shed granules into gutters and downspouts, and won't degrade under Avon's 84 annual freeze-thaw days. With roughly 3,062 sunshine hours yearly, rain simply runs off; there's no organic growth or algae to treat.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose energy-efficient colors. Those profiles have thermal emissivity rated at 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (for example, Aged Copper Penny)—meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. Over Avon's 3,062 annual sunshine hours, the cumulative cooling savings are measurable, especially during the warmer months. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms performance. While New England winters are long, reflective metal still reduces attic temperature spikes on sunny winter days, easing load on ventilation. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty protecting that reflectivity, energy-efficient colors offer both immediate comfort and sustained savings.
