| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |

What our customers are saying:
I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should. The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time. After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.
We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.
Ivan and I have had many visits over the last 10 years we have had our Interlock roof. He is a rare find. Both knowledgeable and conscientious. My interactions with Ivan and call taker May have been top notch as is Interlock's warranty.
Ivan with Interlock Metal Roofing is awesome. Always personable and willing to find and fix the problems. Roofs are going to have leaks and with Interlock I just call when I have an issue and Ivan fixes it. THANK YOU!
Ivan has worked on our roof multiple times. He is always responsive, communicative, efficient, and effective. We can recommend him and Interlock Roofing
Fast response and excellent work. The technician drop by within couple of days, found the cause, and provided quote. The price was reasonable for the work scope. They were able to secure the work slot as soon as the raining season was over and kept me informed on the schedule. In addition, they inspected remaining roof as well. Note: the leak was due to gutter pulling the corner flashing. The 10+ year Interlock roof tile remained good.
It was time to replace the old mossy asphalt shingles. Standing seam metal in dark Hunter Green was the way to go. Love it! Demo and install team were friendly really excellent at their jobs.
I’ve had an interlock metal roof on my home for 20 years. We have always been happy with the roof. People are always surprised to find out the roof is metal.
Prompt, ongoing communication from bid to follow up after completion. Install crew was professional and polite. We had an involved tear-off and they spread tarps overnight in case of dew. Finished job looks great.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Boise
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Boise, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Boise.
Does a metal roof handle Boise's snow and freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?
Yes—aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, which absorbs moisture and degrades through the region's approximately 36 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Boise receives about 48 cm of snow annually, and metal's non-porous structure prevents the ice-dam rot that cracks asphalt shingles when snow melts and refreezes. The four-way interlocking panels stay watertight during heavy melt, and you can add snow guards if desired. Asphalt becomes brittle in freeze-thaw stress; aluminum flexes without cracking.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing can?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel. Instead, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal and automatically repairs itself when scratched or abraded. Combined with Interlock's two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading), your roof resists the region's 1468 mm annual rainfall without surface degradation. This durability is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998.
What hail protection does a metal roof offer, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this superior impact resistance and offer premium discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification. In Boise's climate, where wind gusts reach 116 km/h and severe weather can strike, the combination of Class 4 durability and a lifetime limited warranty means hail damage won't leave you facing a roof replacement or a massive deductible.
Is a metal roof worth the cost compared to a standard asphalt roof?
An aluminum metal roof typically costs more upfront than asphalt, but it is the last roof you'll buy—the Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner, versus asphalt's 15–20 year life. Over 50 years, metal saves you two or three asphalt replacements, tear-off labor, and disposal costs. Interlock Metal Roofing is currently offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation in the region, making the long-term value immediate. Factor in lower maintenance and potential insurance savings, and metal becomes the more economical choice.
Can I get the look of slate, shake, or tile in a metal roof for Boise homes?
Absolutely—Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the visual character of premium roofing materials while delivering aluminum's durability and light weight. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so it installs over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. All profiles are available in multiple colors and finishes. Whether your home's architecture calls for rustic shake or refined slate, you get authentic aesthetics paired with a roof that won't crack, rot, or deteriorate through Boise's 2957 annual sunshine hours and wet winters.
Will a metal roof stay secure in Boise's winter and spring windstorms?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Boise's typical wind gusts reach 116 km/h, well within this safety margin, and the interlocking design distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. The panels lock together on all four sides, creating a unified envelope that strengthens rather than weakens in high wind. This engineering is why ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 certifies Interlock for IBC/IRC compliance—you're protected through the region's most severe seasonal gusts.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or tile?
Metal requires far less maintenance than asphalt or tile. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV exposure, moisture, and Boise's 36 annual freeze-thaw cycles, requiring repairs or replacement every 15–20 years. Tile cracks and leaks; wood shake rots and attracts insects. Interlock aluminum simply sheds debris, resists mold and algae, and needs only occasional gutter cleaning—no sealing, no patching, no re-coating. The Alunar finish is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading, meaning your roof's appearance and protective coating stay intact. CALGreen verification confirms its reduced-maintenance profile, saving you time and money over the roof's life.
What exactly does Interlock's lifetime warranty cover, and can I transfer it?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—essentially everything that fails in traditional roofing. It is transferable one time to the next owner, extending protection 50 years from completion, giving future buyers peace of mind. No other roofing material offers this combination of original-owner permanence and transferability. For Boise homeowners planning to stay long-term or sell, this warranty eliminates the roof from major-repair conversations for decades, directly boosting home value and buyer confidence.
Will an energy-efficiency metal roof actually reduce my cooling costs in the Boise area?
Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. In Boise's 2957 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance reduces summer cooling demand and peak roof temperature. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy savings. While Boise is cooler than southern climates, the reflective properties also reduce ice-dam formation in spring by melting snow more evenly, tying energy efficiency to the region's freeze-thaw cycle concerns. Over time, lower AC runtime compounds savings.
Can you install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles, or do I need a full tear-off?
Interlock metal roofing installs directly over most existing roofs—no tear-off required in most cases. Because the Shingle profile weighs only about 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shake ~0.58, Tile ~0.59), the extraordinary light weight eliminates the structural reinforcement needed for slate or tile. This means faster installation, lower labor costs, and no landfill disposal of old asphalt. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving the region since 1997, will assess your roof during a free consultation to confirm if an overlay is suitable. The installation typically completes in days rather than weeks, minimizing disruption to your Boise home during the region's 1468 mm annual rainfall.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Boise’s climate?
Yes. Boise averages about 48 cm of snow, 1468 mm of rain, roughly 36 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 116 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
