I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should. The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time. After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Review: April 20, 2026Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Review: January 20, 2026Completion: August 10, 2001

Fast response and excellent work. The technician drop by within couple of days, found the cause, and provided quote. The price was reasonable for the work scope. They were able to secure the work slot as soon as the raining season was over and kept me informed on the schedule. In addition, they inspected remaining roof as well. Note: the leak was due to gutter pulling the corner flashing. The 10+ year Interlock roof tile remained good.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Overlook

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Overlook, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Overlook.

How does a metal roof handle Overlook's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, interlocking aluminum panels create a slippery surface that prevents accumulation. Overlook averages about 48 cm of snow per year alongside roughly 36 freeze-thaw cycles, which are exactly the conditions that crack asphalt shingles and cause ice dams. Interlock's four-way interlocking design and Class 4 impact rating (UL 2218) mean the roof won't degrade when snow slides off or ice refreezes at the eaves. Adding optional snow guards lets you control runoff timing while keeping the roof itself intact through decades of winter cycling.

With 1,468 mm of rain yearly in Overlook, will a metal roof leak?

No—the interlocking panel design sheds water faster than it falls, and the overlap geometry forces water down and outward, not inward. Overlook's roughly 1,468 mm annual rainfall is handled identically to the heavier coastal precipitation where Interlock has installed roofs since 1998; the critical difference from asphalt is that metal panels don't absorb or degrade from constant moisture exposure. When installed over solid decking with underlayment per ESR-1790 specs, the roof system is essentially impermeable. The real risk with asphalt in this climate is granule loss and deterioration—problems aluminum simply doesn't face.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you calculate total cost over the roof's life. Asphalt roofs last 15–20 years in Overlook's wet climate and freeze-thaw environment; you'll replace it twice before an Interlock roof reaches its 50-year design life. Add labor, disposal, and disruption for two tear-offs, and asphalt becomes far more expensive. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner) covers splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—costs that plague asphalt in regions with 36 annual freeze-thaw days. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off—dramatically compresses payback. One roof, installed once, lasts your ownership.

Can a metal roof handle Overlook's wind gusts?

Absolutely. Overlook sees typical wind gusts around 116 km/h (about 72 mph), well within normal weather—Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, creating a unified system rather than individual shingles that lift and tear. Even the worst gust on record for the region won't exceed the roof's rated resistance. Unlike asphalt, which begins losing granules and separating at 60 mph, metal panels actually tighten under load. High-wind insurance discounts often apply, offsetting the installation cost.

Does Interlock's metal roof hold up in hail, and can I get an insurance discount?

Yes and yes. Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Hail dents asphalt and penetrates within a few impacts; aluminum panels flex and rebound without cracking or losing shingle material. Many insurers recognize the Class 4 rating and offer 10–20% premium reductions for metal roofs, which can offset a significant portion of installation cost over a few years. Overlook's ~1,468 mm annual rainfall occasionally includes hail, so the impact protection isn't theoretical—it's practical insurance.

Does my house need structural work to support a metal roof?

Almost certainly not. Interlock's Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 pounds per square foot, and the Tile profile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile—weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than actual tile. Your home was already framed to support asphalt shingles (15 lb/sq ft), so aluminum is a dramatic reduction in load. This means Interlock often installs directly over your existing roof, saving thousands in tear-off labor and disposal. No structural engineer approval required; no reinforcement needed. The lightweight advantage is especially valuable in Overlook's wet climate, where roof weight concentrates loads in areas vulnerable to ice and snow.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity; many homeowners can occupy the home during the work with minimal disruption. Yes, Interlock installs over most existing asphalt roofs when the deck is sound—a huge advantage because you skip the multi-day tear-off, dumpster rental, and disposal fees. The installer (Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving the region since 1997) inspects the deck, makes repairs if needed, adds underlayment, and installs the interlocking panels. In Overlook's rainy season, the compressed timeline means fewer weather delays and lower labor cost. The process is less invasive than traditional roofing, so neighbors and landscaping stay undisturbed.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Overlook's roughly 2,957 sunshine hours yearly represent substantial solar load over a year; even though the region is cool (mean 11.5°C), summer days still drive cooling demand when the sun is bright. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the reflectance advantage. On a sunny summer day, an energy-efficiency metal roof can run 20–30°F cooler than asphalt, reducing air conditioning strain and lowering utility bills. In a wet climate, every sunny hour counts.

What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require?

Minimal. Unlike asphalt shingles (which lose granules and require periodic sealing), or wood shakes (which split and rot in Overlook's 1,468 mm annual rainfall and 36 freeze-thaw cycles), metal panels don't crack, curl, or absorb water. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. You'll clear gutters seasonally and inspect flashing after storms—the same basic care any roof needs. The Alunar coating is designed to self-clean in rain; no washing or re-coating required over the 50-year warranty term. The result is a roof that doesn't demand attention, making it ideal for homeowners who want durability without ongoing cost and hassle.

Are metal roofs environmentally responsible compared to asphalt?

Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum, so at end-of-life (or if you upgrade in 50+ years), the material returns to the recycling stream rather than a landfill. Asphalt roofs, by contrast, are torn off and discarded every 15–20 years in climates like Overlook, accumulating landfill waste across a home's ownership. Over a century of occupancy, one metal roof produces far less waste than five asphalt replacements. Aluminum also requires less embodied energy to recycle than to produce new, so the recycling loop is genuinely closed. Installing Interlock also eliminates the tear-off cycle—no fuel burned removing old shingles, no disposal trucking—further reducing your roof's environmental footprint.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Overlook’s climate?

Yes. Overlook averages about 48 cm of snow, 1468 mm of rain, roughly 36 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 116 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
