Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Welches, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I'm thrilled with how my aluminum roof turned out!! Waaayy better than I had imagined. The Interlock team was great to work with. They were very professional and responsive to my needs. I would definitely recommend working with them!!
communicating the start date of the project
The company was very informative and efficient, and we are happy with both the aesthetic and practical results. We are also happy to have a greater sense of security about the danger posed by fire, which has been a worry because we live in a forested area far from emergency services. The workers were polite and professional and cleaned up the site pretty well. It was expensive, but we're very satisfied with the work.
We really liked the product. Damon, the sales guy, was exceptional in explaining everything to us. It was just too much money.
Communication. Setting realistic expectations. Following through on commitments. Overall integrity. Original schedule was an August installation. Old roof was taken off in October and install was not complete until late December. Communications regarding schedule and delays were non-existent and each time I initiated contact and was given new estimated dates the dates were not honored and contact wasn't made.
Communications. Roland would argue with me as far as the way the roof looked. I feel he should not be talking to homeowners. Especially if they feel that something is not right. Things that he stated were fine Ivan fixed. I am just very upset that we were offered nothing as far as a discount. Just frustrating. I just hope parts of the roof don't come off when the high winds start. Didn't even get an apology in any form.
I would have liked the office staff to communicate more about the manufacturing issue. If they had communicated with us, we would have understood the issue.
Everything was done quickly and professionally. We are very well pleased.
A list of do's and don't's for the installers would be beneficial. We had nothing in writing about what needed to be done.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Welches
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Welches, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Welches.
Does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Welches?
Yes. Welches receives about 120 cm of snow annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably without pooling water underneath. The lightweight design—the Shingle profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means snow load never overstresses your structure. Snow guards are available if you prefer to manage snow retention manually. The smooth, hard aluminum surface resists ice dam buildup better than rough asphalt, which traps freeze-thaw cycles; at roughly 42 freeze-thaw days per year, this matters in Clackamas County.
Will a metal roof crack or degrade from freeze-thaw cycling?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly, and its oxide layer—which self-heals when scratched—protects the metal through Welches's 42 annual freeze-thaw days. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle in cold cycles and splits, or wood shakes, which rot from absorbed moisture, aluminum is non-porous and non-corrosive. The material holds its shape and impact resistance across temperature swings. Interlock panels installed to spec maintain performance across this climate without degradation.
Can aluminum roofing rust in a wet, cold climate like Welches?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, a microscopic oxide layer forms on the surface and self-heals when scratched—providing permanent corrosion resistance in wet, cold climates. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, backed by a 30-year coating warranty. With 1834 mm of annual rainfall and frequent moisture, this two-sided protection gives you durability that steel roofing cannot match.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile—so it installs safely over most existing roofs without adding load. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to asphalt shingles over multiple layers. This lightweight design lets you replace an old roof in place, avoiding costly tear-off and disposal labor.
How does metal roofing perform in Welches wind and storms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph. Welches experiences gusts around 138 km/h (86 mph) during storms, well within the roof's rating. The mechanical interlock—not fasteners alone—distributes wind load across the entire panel assembly, so corners and edges stay secure. This design is ICC-ES evaluated (ESR-1790) and meets International Building Code standards for wind uplift, giving you confidence in severe weather.
What's the hail rating, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock holds UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating qualifies many homeowners for insurance discounts on comprehensive coverage. Ask your agent about Interlock Metal Roofing's UL 2218 Class 4 listing; some insurers offer 5–15% reductions for non-combustible, impact-resistant roofs. Given Welches's exposure to severe weather, this resilience often translates to direct savings.
Is a metal roof worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles?
A metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt but outlasts it by decades, making it the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–20 years and ends in a landfill; Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next owner. Over 50+ years, one metal roof eliminates multiple asphalt replacements, tear-offs, and labor. Current financing—no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—reduces that first-cost barrier significantly.
What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will the roof last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner with a 50-year term from completion, adding resale appeal. Aluminum doesn't degrade like asphalt or wood—Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. In Welches's 1834 mm annual rainfall and 42 freeze-thaw days, the material simply outlasts traditional roofing.
Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in Welches?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. serves Welches and the surrounding region since 1997. The local team understands Clackamas County's heavy rainfall, snow loads, and wind exposure. They install to Interlock's strict specifications, ensuring your warranty is valid and your roof performs in the climate's 2852 annual sunshine hours and frequent moisture cycling. Call or visit their site to schedule an on-site assessment and discuss the current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
Is metal roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and Interlock panels can be melted down and reformed indefinitely without losing properties. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, contribute to landfill waste with every tear-off—typically occurring every 15–20 years. Over 50+ years in Welches, choosing metal eliminates multiple asphalt tear-offs and their transportation and disposal impact. The lightweight design also reduces installation labor and fuel use. CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, the roof conserves resources throughout its lifespan.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Welches’s climate?
Yes. Welches averages about 223 cm of snow, 1834 mm of rain, roughly 42 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 138 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
