They are the worst company I've ever worked with. Interlock Roofing could improve in proper customer service. I paid for premier customer service and material and got none of them. The issue was resolved after many calls and emails by giving me 30% off the original price after turning it all over to my attorney.

Interlock Roofing could have had an engineer come by and evaluate the project before the installation crew was even sent out, which may have resolved the venting problem early on.

To the Interlock Corporation, What can you say about a home improvement experience such as replacing the roof on your house? From the first contact to the completion of the project, it was the most enjoyable experience a person can have when dealing with a large commercial company. From the initial non-high pressure, very informative sales contact from a Home and Garden show to the friendly, efficient and respectful installers to the final personal contact to ensure we were satisfied with the results and that we were enjoying our new roof. The application and quality of the materials are beyond expectations. We have been enjoying the roof through the winter winds and rain, and hail of the Pacific Northwest. Everyone asks if it is noisy and tinny when it rains. We reply, “of course not! “ It is even quieter than the comp roof we just replaced. We ordered the deep charcoal grey slate. After the rain, while still wet, the roof shines and glistens like real slate. It is a welcoming sight compared to the dull comp roofs of our neighbors. Shortly after installation, there was a wedding up the road from us. We heard from a friend who attended that our roof was the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot topic of discussion since everyone had to drive by our house to reach the wedding. We get many compliments from people who drive by. The installers, while being friendly, are very proud of their workmanship, and we liked the fact that they kept referring to the roof as “their roof”. Hard-working and diligent in the task, they were attentive to every detail. The best onsite reps Interlock could ever have. They were proud of the many years of service working for the company, and that fact, too, lends itself to efficient communication and workflow. The installation happened during the summer during some of the hottest days on record. The installers measured their days, coming early, resting during the hottest times and returning during the coolness of the evenings, doing what needed to be done to get the job done. While more expensive than traditional comp roofs up front, the fact that we never have to replace the roof during our lifetime is well worth it. This house is our forever house, and the best part of our new roof is the fact that my husband will never have to climb up a ladder to clean off the moss that grows so well here in the wet but green northwest. After much investigation and consideration of other metal roofing products on the market, we highly recommend a metal roof, specifically one by Interlock.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Damascus

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Damascus, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Damascus.

How does a metal roof handle the snow and freeze-thaw cycles we get in the Clackamas County area?

Metal roofs shed snow faster than asphalt because aluminum conducts heat and has a smooth, interlocking surface that prevents ice dams—critical in Damascus, where you average about 48 cm of snow and roughly 36 freeze-thaw days each year. The four-way interlocking panels expand and contract with temperature swings without cracking or curling. Unlike wood shakes or slate, which absorb moisture and degrade through repeated freezing, aluminum's oxide layer remains intact through winter cycles. Snow guards can be added if you need controlled shedding for safety.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a wet Oregon climate?

Aluminum inherently cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel roofing. Instead, a thin oxide layer forms naturally on the surface and actually self-heals when scratched, sealing the scratch within weeks. In Damascus's rainy climate (averaging 1468 mm per year), this passive protection is far more durable than painted steel or bare copper. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of each panel adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, giving you a two-layer defense against moisture and UV degradation.

Will a metal roof stay secure during the wind gusts we experience here?

Yes. Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and Damascus's typical gusts reach about 116 km/h (72 mph). The four-way interlocking panel design means each sheet locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind loads across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering—proven by UL and ICC-ES testing (ESR-1790)—lets the panels flex together as a system. Your warranty covers wind-related failures, including uplift and edge lift, provided installation follows code.

Does a metal roof leak more easily than asphalt shingles in heavy rain?

Interlocking metal panels shed water by design: each sheet overlaps its neighbor in four directions, creating continuous channels that move rain downslope—more reliable than overlapped asphalt shingles, which rely on sealant that degrades. In Damascus, where 1468 mm of annual rainfall is routine, this geometry prevents water from pooling or working sideways into seams. The panels themselves are non-porous aluminum; the joints are mechanical locks, not adhesive. When installed over a solid deck with underlayment, the system performs identically to asphalt in rain testing—with the advantage that it never degrades under UV or develops the granule loss that causes asphalt leaks after 15–20 years.

Can I get an insurance discount if I install a metal roof that resists hail?

Many insurers do offer discounts for metal roofs rated UL 2218 Class 4—the highest hail-impact rating available. Interlock metal roofing meets this standard and is even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Contact your agent with the product spec sheet; some carriers in Oregon reduce premiums by 10–20% for Class 4 roofs because claims history shows lower damage rates. Combined with the roof's 120 mph wind warranty and non-combustible Class A fire rating, the loss-prevention profile is strong. Ask whether a lifetime transferable warranty affects your rate calculation as well.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over 30 or 40 years?

Over a 40-year span, metal typically costs less than asphalt when you account for replacement cycles. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years and requires tear-off disposal ($1500–3000), then reinstallation. Metal lasts 50+ years with the same installation cost once. Factor in maintenance: asphalt needs granule inspection, moss treatment, and flashing repairs; metal requires only gutter cleaning (same as asphalt). You also avoid the labor and material cost of multiple tear-offs. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—lowers the effective first cost. Resale value gains (buyers pay more for a roof with 40+ years remaining) close the gap further, making metal the lower-cost choice across the roof's life.

Do I need to reinforce my house structure to support a metal roof that looks like tile?

Aluminum's extreme lightness is a Damascus advantage. The Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is needed, and you can usually install it directly over an existing asphalt roof without removing it. Slate and cedar shakes in profile weigh 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft, far lighter than stone slate or hand-split wood. This means no engineer's report, no joist reinforcement, no cost overruns. Older homes in the region—common in Clackamas County—benefit especially: you get the look of premium materials (tile, slate) without the structural burden. Installation is faster and simpler because the roof frame doesn't change.

What exactly does the warranty cover, and does it transfer if I sell?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap. After you sell, the next owner receives a one-time transferable warranty lasting 50 years from roof completion. This gives buyers confidence: a roof installed today carries protection through 2074. The 30-year coating warranty (against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) and the 120 mph wind warranty are explicit and documented. No deductible for manufacturing defects. Few roofing products offer both lifetime original-owner coverage and a half-century transfer term, which directly strengthens your home's appraisal and sale price.

Will a metal roof actually lower my cooling costs in Oregon's summers?

energy-efficient colors on Interlock roofs have a thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (depending on color), meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs—relevant in Damascus, where you average 2957 sunshine hours yearly. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this difference. In summer, a reflective metal roof keeps interior temperatures lower than asphalt, reducing air-conditioning demand. The benefit compounds in mild climates like the Willamette Valley: you avoid the peak cooling loads that spike demand charges and shortcut air-conditioner lifespan. Over 30–40 years, this translates to measurable energy savings and a lower carbon footprint than asphalt's solar absorption.

Does Interlock have local installers in the Damascus area, and how quickly can they start?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. serves Damascus and the broader Clackamas County region and has been operating locally since 1997. The company is familiar with Oregon's rain, freeze-thaw cycles, and typical roof configurations. They can schedule inspections, measure, and provide firm quotes. Current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—is available through the local team. Contact them directly for availability; turnaround typically ranges from 2–6 weeks depending on season and weather. Spring and early summer are busier; late fall and winter may offer faster scheduling. Ask about their warranty paperwork process and how they document the 50-year transferable term.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Damascus’s climate?

Yes. Damascus averages about 48 cm of snow, 1468 mm of rain, roughly 36 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 116 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
