Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Milwaukie, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
My wife and I chose the cedar shake look. It turned out very nicely. The crew took the time they needed to do the job right and explained the steps they were taking along the way. If you are looking for a high quality, long lasting, product that will impress, look no further. Services: Roof installation
While the product is excellent, the customer service regarding installation was poor. Multiple times I was given a date and time for installation, and the day ended with no one showing up or notifying me that there had been a change. They need to have better customer service and provide accurate information that they'll stick to.
The project was very professional and the crew was great. I was less enthusiastic about the selling tactics. Part of the roof was just damaged in a storm so we will be contacting you soon.
More direct communication from the company or at least the install lead as to when they were not coming or if there was delays, when they were going to start again.
Communication with the customer. And customer service. I have never worked with a contractor professionally, or as a customer. That had such poor communication than I experienced with this project. Not just me as a customer, but also amongst the interlock company.
They could have improved mostly in the scheduling end with communications.
I felt like I was a low priority to Interlock. Mike really sold us on the idea that everything was done by Interlock so no one could point fingers. But poor communication, a messy cleanup, and a leaking roof occurred anyway with an in-genuine "sorry" at every step. Communication was what needed the most improvement, mostly with Angela.
Angela called me to let me know that the crew would be showing up to work at the end of the week, and no one came until the middle of the following week. Also, the nails for the roof went through our soffits, so they now look bad. This issue has been resolved by Interlock by paying for them to be painted over, but it would have been nice to know that this was going to happen before it did.
Glenn did a great job. He spent a lot of time with us and he is a great salesman.
I was not happy with the response I received when I called in about the problem. I received a call back from the Project Manager, he told me that I should not have gone around him to make the complaint. When he called me and confronted me with this, I found it to be unprofessional.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Milwaukie
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Milwaukie, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Milwaukie.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow? We get about 48 cm per winter here.
Metal roofing handles snow load without issue because the aluminum panels are engineered to distribute weight efficiently across your framing. Milwaukie averages 48 cm of snow annually with roughly 36 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which creates ice-dam risk on conventional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking system sheds snow and ice reliably; the smooth surface prevents ice damming that traps meltwater. Optional snow guards are available if you need to control sliding on steep pitches. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle in freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum flexes and recovers without damage.
Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in Oregon's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath when scratched. Steel roofs rust in wet climates because iron oxidizes and the corrosion spreads. Milwaukie receives about 1468 mm of annual rainfall, creating persistent moisture that accelerates rust in steel. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy with a Alunar 70% PVDF coating applied to both sides, adding 30-year color and chalk protection. In salt-air or high-humidity regions, that dual-sided coating proves essential—Interlock has installed panels from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations.
Can my existing roof handle a metal roof, or do I need structural work?
Most homes need no structural reinforcement because Interlock metal panels weigh far less than the materials they replace. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and installs directly over your existing roof. Even the heavier Shake profile comes in at 0.58 lb/sq ft. Since Milwaukie gets about 48 cm of snow annually, the light weight means your framing bears less additional load during snow events. A structural engineer can verify your specific frame if you want confirmation, but most homes built to code handle metal roofing without upgrades.
With 1468 mm of rain per year, how does a metal roof stay watertight?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap and lock together, creating a system where water sheds downward rather than penetrating seams. The panels themselves are solid aluminum—no shingles to curl or separate—and the interlocking design eliminates the weak points where asphalt roofing fails in heavy rain. Milwaukie's approximately 1468 mm annual rainfall tests roofing systems year-round; metal's continuous surface and mechanical locks outperform shingles that rely on adhesive and gravity. Proper installation over solid decking with underlayment (handled by our local Interlock installer) ensures water drains to gutters and downspouts without pooling.
Do metal roofs blow off in Oregon windstorms?
No. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and Milwaukie's typical wind gusts reach about 116 km/h (72 mph)—well within that rating. The four-way mechanical interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors, distributing wind loads across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners or adhesive at a few points. During Oregon's occasional severe weather, this redundancy matters; the Guardian Warranty covers wind damage up to the 120 mph threshold. Properly installed, your metal roof will outlast the storm.
Is a metal roof worth it if hail hits? Do I get insurance breaks?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating—the highest impact classification available—and The Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That proven durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your carrier with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation. Oregon hail events are not routine in Milwaukie's climate, but the Class 4 rating protects you without fuss. Asphalt shingles typically fail at smaller impact sizes, leading to leaks and claims. With Interlock, you have a roof that simply absorbs impacts and keeps functioning, so your insurance profile improves.
Does a metal roof help with cooling costs in summer?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat, using thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 to reduce roof surface temperatures. Milwaukie averages about 2957 sunshine hours per year, so that reflectance prevents heat from cooking your attic and driving up air-conditioning load. A lighter-colored metal roof stays 20-30°F cooler than dark asphalt on sunny days. Cool Roof Rating Council testing confirms the performance. Dark asphalt absorbs that solar energy and transfers it into your home; reflective metal leaves it outside. Over 50 years, the cooling savings add up, especially on days when temperatures climb.
Is a metal roof cheaper than asphalt over the long run?
Yes, when you calculate total cost over the roof's life. Asphalt costs less upfront but lasts 15-20 years in climates like Milwaukie's (1468 mm rain, 48 cm snow, 36 freeze-thaw days annually) and fails faster at edges and seams. You pay for removal, disposal, and reinstallation every two decades. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner—one roof, not three or four replacements. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. That payment deferral lets you invest cash elsewhere while you own a roof that will still function when you sell.
Are metal roofs actually recyclable, or is that marketing?
Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life—aluminum's value means scrapyards accept it. Asphalt roofing, by contrast, tears off and goes to landfill by the ton; most Oregon jurisdictions do not recycle roofing shingles. Over Milwaukie's typical 50-year roof ownership period, you avoid the environmental cost of ripping off and replacing asphalt three or four times. Aluminum itself is made from bauxite ore, but recycled aluminum requires only 5% of the energy needed to smelt new metal, so every recycled panel saves resources. When you eventually replace this roof decades from now, it enters the recycling stream rather than a landfill.
