Nazar was the Interlock person in charge of the job.He proved himself a knowledgeable, courteous professional. On day, when I was disconcerted because the crew didn't show up, as expected, he was as surprised as I . He gave me his phone number and suggested I phone him should additional problems arise. Nevertheless, that he did not know that the crew failed to report for work, which suggests a lack of communication between the job manager and the crew.

I was very disappointed with the salesperson. We explained to him we are in the process of either staying here or moving. If we were staying, we would be interested in the roof, but if we were moving, we would either not be replacing the roof or we would go with a more standard version. He didn't seem to promote the product at all. I asked a ton of questions and there was no information given, just a price. It may be a good product, but the sales person did not represent the company or the product well.

The product is awesome. The installation crew was terrible. I don't know if they used contractors or if they actually work for Interlock. They were come and go and were not reliable. The installers were not reliable or here at the same time every day. It was awful.

Review: September 16, 2007 Completion: July 24, 2007

The Interlock Roofing System installed on our home has changed the entire look of the building. It has made the house stand out from the other homes on the street. I am happy to say that the new roof has met or surpassed all that we had hoped for. Not only has it improved the look of the house, but, as you mentioned, it has lowered the temperature of the second floor during the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot summer months. The snow catchers placed on the front porch look as decorative as well as functional. It is comforting to know as I approach retirement age, that I will never have the expense of replacing the roof again, nor will I have to worry about leaks in the future. I would also like to comment on the work team that did the installation. I have never had a contractor come in and work as hard as they did. They basically worked from dawn to dusk. I was amazed that they were able to complete the job in about two and a half days, especially considering that they had to redo all the sheathing on our roof. I thank you and your workers for a job well done.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Albion

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Albion, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Albion.

Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without degrading. Albion experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, the exact scenario where asphalt becomes brittle and develops cracks; aluminum's oxide layer remains flexible across temperature swings. The four-way interlocking panels (ESR-1790 rated) accommodate minor movement without creating leak points, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating won't chalk or fade after 30 years of seasonal stress—a performance metric verified to ASTM D4214 standards.

How does an aluminum metal roof handle Albion's snow load and ice dams?

Aluminum roofing sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because its smooth, hard surface prevents ice adhesion; Albion averages about 76 cm of snow annually, and metal's slippery finish naturally encourages runoff rather than buildup. The lightweight design—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—means no structural reinforcement is needed even in heavy snow regions. Snow guards can be added to any profile if you want to manage drift. The interlocking panels resist wind uplift during freeze-thaw cycles when snow loads shift, staying secure through the region's typical gusts to 118 km/h.

Can metal roofing handle Albion's rainfall without leaking?

Metal roofing is inherently leak-resistant: water runs straight off the hard, non-porous aluminum surface rather than pooling or being absorbed. Albion receives about 1198 mm of rain annually, distributed across many months of steady precipitation. The four-way interlocking panel design (ESR-1790 compliant) creates overlapping water seals at every joint; combined with proper underlayment and flashing installed to spec, the system has zero water-absorption points. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating (rated 30 years against fading) sits on both sides of each panel, adding a secondary moisture barrier that asphalt cannot match.

Will my metal roof stay secure in Albion's coastal wind gusts?

The four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—well above Albion's typical gusts of 118 km/h. Each panel locks into its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified assembly that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This mechanical interlock design (verified in ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790) prevents flutter and uplift, even during the strongest seasonal storms. Installation over an existing roof or solid deck with proper underlayment further reduces vibration, keeping your roof stable across decades of weather.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; iron is what oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum develops an invisible, self-healing oxide layer that protects the underlying metal. When scratched or damaged, this oxide layer reforms naturally, sealing the exposed surface within hours. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds 30 years of protection against chalking and fading on top of that natural defense. In salt-air and freeze-thaw environments like Albion, this dual-layer protection means your roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 certified) will outlast any steel or steel-cored alternative.

Can my existing house structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is required in almost every case. Interlock's lightest profile, the Cedar Shingle, installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light it can typically go directly over your existing asphalt roof without additional framing. The Mediterranean Tile profile, despite its hefty ceramic appearance, weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft because it's aluminum, making it about 96% lighter than genuine tile or concrete. Your home already supports far heavier snow loads (Albion's 76 cm average annually); a metal roof actually reduces that structural demand over time. A local inspection during the installation process confirms readiness, but the weight advantage is why metal roofing installs over most existing decks with no costly upgrades.

What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof in Rhode Island?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact-resistance loss for as long as you own the home. It transfers once to the next owner with 50 years of coverage from completion, adding resale appeal. Interlock has manufactured these panels since 1998 and installed them from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, proving durability across extreme climates. In Albion's moderate maritime environment (about 3050 sunshine hours per year and frequent freeze-thaw cycling), the combination of aluminum's non-corrosive nature and the 30-year Alunar coating warranty means you can expect 50+ years of service with minimal degradation.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Unlike asphalt shingles, metal won't curl, crack, or shed granules—no seasonal inspections or patching needed. Unlike wood shakes, it won't split or rot even after Albion's 83 annual freeze-thaw days. Unlike tile or slate, nothing breaks and needs individual replacement. Routine maintenance amounts to a gutter cleaning once or twice yearly and occasional leaf removal; the hard aluminum surface sheds debris naturally. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranted durability) requires no touch-ups or refinishing. CALGreen-verified as a reduced-maintenance roofing system, metal roofing reclaims the time and cost homeowners spend repairing or replacing asphalt every 15–20 years.

What's involved in installing a metal roof, and can it go over my existing shingles?

Yes—Interlock panels typically install directly over your existing asphalt roof, saving the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off. The installer adds underlayment and flashing, then fastens the interlocking aluminum panels in sequence; each panel locks mechanically into the next, so the installation is faster and cleaner than traditional roofing. The four-way interlock design (ESR-1790 rated for code compliance in Rhode Island) is engineered for over-deck installation, meaning no structural preparation is needed on most homes. Timeline varies with roof size and weather, but many residential roofs complete in 2–4 days. Local installer Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and handles the entire process, from inspection to final trim and warranty registration.

Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes—Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, breaking the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that repeats every 15–20 years. Your old roof comes down once, installs over existing decking, and remains on your home for 50+ years, eliminating decades of future tear-offs and waste. The aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 certified) can be recycled infinitely without losing properties, so every panel that comes off eventually returns to the materials stream. This longevity and recyclability matter in Albion, where about 1198 mm of rain and 76 cm of snow annually accelerate asphalt degradation; metal roofing extends the time between replacements from decades to generations, reducing your home's environmental footprint substantially.
