Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Cumberland Hill, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Nazar was the Interlock person in charge of the job.He proved himself a knowledgeable, courteous professional. On day, when I was disconcerted because the crew didn't show up, as expected, he was as surprised as I . He gave me his phone number and suggested I phone him should additional problems arise. Nevertheless, that he did not know that the crew failed to report for work, which suggests a lack of communication between the job manager and the crew.
I was very disappointed with the salesperson. We explained to him we are in the process of either staying here or moving. If we were staying, we would be interested in the roof, but if we were moving, we would either not be replacing the roof or we would go with a more standard version. He didn't seem to promote the product at all. I asked a ton of questions and there was no information given, just a price. It may be a good product, but the sales person did not represent the company or the product well.
None.
They were very expensive.
The product is awesome. The installation crew was terrible. I don't know if they used contractors or if they actually work for Interlock. They were come and go and were not reliable. The installers were not reliable or here at the same time every day. It was awful.
The Interlock Roofing System installed on our home has changed the entire look of the building. It has made the house stand out from the other homes on the street. I am happy to say that the new roof has met or surpassed all that we had hoped for. Not only has it improved the look of the house, but, as you mentioned, it has lowered the temperature of the second floor during the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot summer months. The snow catchers placed on the front porch look as decorative as well as functional. It is comforting to know as I approach retirement age, that I will never have the expense of replacing the roof again, nor will I have to worry about leaks in the future. I would also like to comment on the work team that did the installation. I have never had a contractor come in and work as hard as they did. They basically worked from dawn to dusk. I was amazed that they were able to complete the job in about two and a half days, especially considering that they had to redo all the sheathing on our roof. I thank you and your workers for a job well done.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cumberland Hill
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cumberland Hill, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cumberland Hill.
Will a metal roof hold up to Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw weather because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting. Cumberland Hill experiences roughly 83 freeze-thaw days per year, plus about 76 cm of snow, which puts real stress on brittle materials like asphalt and slate. Aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy flexes with temperature swings without degradation. The Alunar coating on both panel sides (30-year warranty against chalking and fading per ASTM standards) resists salt spray from winter treatment roads too. You're looking at a roof that actually gets tougher with repeated seasonal stress, not weaker.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow loads in New England?
Metal roofing handles snow load perfectly because it weighs almost nothing—the Cedar Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb per square foot, so your existing structure carries no extra burden even during heavy accumulation. With about 76 cm of annual snowfall and typical gusts reaching 118 km/h in winter, the four-way interlocking aluminum panels stay locked together and shed snow cleanly without ice-dam pooling. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms suitability for regional snow loads. Snow guards are available if you want to control slide-off over entrances. Your roof won't sag, won't need reinforcement, and won't trap meltwater the way asphalt does.
Why does aluminum never rust, and why does that matter here?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes. Instead, aluminum forms an invisible oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, so even in salty air or wet climates like Rhode Island, corrosion is impossible. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys (ASTM B209 certified) are the same material used since 1998 from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations. Cumberland Hill's 1198 mm annual rainfall and winter salt from roads would destroy uncoated steel in years. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both panel sides adds another 30-year warranty layer. You get a roof that won't degrade from moisture or corrosion—period.
Can my house support a metal tile roof, or do I need structural work?
No structural reinforcement needed—metal tile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so it installs directly over your existing roof in most cases. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb per square foot, compared to 35-50+ pounds for real tile. That means no costly beam upgrades, no sistering of rafters, and no weeks of structural work. Installation is fast and clean because Interlock crews can work right over your current shingles. The Guardian warranty backs the panels for the original owner's lifetime and transfers 50 years to the next owner, so you're not just avoiding construction headaches—you're avoiding the tearout expense that asphalt shingles demand in 20-25 years.
Will metal roofing stay put in New England windstorms?
Four-way interlocking panels are engineered for exactly this—the system is warranted to 120 mph wind resistance when installed to specification, and Cumberland Hill's typical gusts reach 118 km/h (about 73 mph) with extreme events around that threshold. The interlocking design means each panel is locked on all four sides to its neighbors, creating a unified structure that doesn't rely on fasteners alone. ICC-ES ESR-1790 certification confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind standards for the region. You'll also sleep better knowing the aluminum won't split, curl, or lose fasteners the way asphalt shingles do in heavy wind. Spring and fall storms that tear up conventional roofs just shed off metal panels.
What hail rating does metal roofing carry, and could it lower insurance?
Interlock metal roofing holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Most homeowners don't realize their asphalt roof loses impact resistance within a few years and fails UL 2218 Class 2 testing. Because metal roofing is demonstrably durable under extreme impact, some insurers offer premium discounts; check with your agent once your roof is installed. In a region that sees hail risk, especially heading into spring and early summer, a Class 4-rated roof is genuine protection. The warranty backs this rating for life, so you're not gambling that the roof will weaken over time.
What is the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and is it actually transferable?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no deductible. It's also one-time transferable, meaning the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from the installation date. That's unheard of in roofing. Asphalt carries 20-25 year limited warranties that are often pro-rated and don't transfer. When you sell your home in Cumberland Hill, the metal roof becomes a selling point because the buyer inherits half a century of protection. This isn't marketing talk—it's why metal roofing is the last roof you'll buy.
How long does metal roof installation take, and do you have to tear off the old roof?
Installation typically takes 3-5 days depending on roof size and weather; the crew can usually install directly over your existing asphalt shingles because metal panels are so light (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58, Tile at 0.59). There's no costly tear-off, no weeks of exposure, no dumpster fees. The solid deck and underlayment ensure weather protection during the job. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and handles the whole process: inspection, installation permit, and finishing. They're familiar with Cumberland Hill's snow loads, wind patterns, and the freeze-thaw demands of about 83 annual cycles. Installation over existing roof is faster, cleaner, and cheaper than the traditional tear-down-to-bare-wood method.
Does a metal roof really keep my house cooler, or is that just sales talk?
Metal roofing with energy-efficient colors has initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it bounces heat away instead of absorbing it like asphalt does. In summer, when Cumberland Hill averages about 3050 sunshine hours per year, that reflectance cuts cooling loads measurably. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these finishes, so the savings are verified, not claimed. Even in cloudy New England, a reflective metal roof stays cooler than asphalt, reducing air conditioning runtime and electric bills. Winter brings no downside—the roof still insulates normally. You're trading the heat absorption that asphalt shingles rely on (driving cooling costs) for a finish that works smarter year-round.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Cumberland Hill, and do they know the local climate?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the Rhode Island region since 1999—they know freeze-thaw cycles, the 76 cm annual snowfall, and wind gusts hitting 118 km/h. They're the local authorized installer and handle everything from inspection through warranty service. With a regional promotion offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, the financing and pricing are set up for homeowners right here in Newport County. You're working with crews who understand local building codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance), local wind and snow loads, and how to install over existing roofs without disruption. That local continuity means your warranty is backed by people who'll be here to service it.
