Review: June 14, 2025 Completion: May 16, 2025

Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments

Review: May 14, 2025 Completion: November 19, 2024

This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!

Review: February 11, 2025 Completion: December 9, 2024

Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.

Review: November 21, 2024 Completion: October 29, 2024

We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.

Review: April 18, 2022 Completion: December 14, 2021

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation

Review: April 18, 2022 Completion: May 6, 2019

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation

Review: January 21, 2019 Completion: December 1, 2018

I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.

Review: January 13, 2019 Completion: December 22, 2018

Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Athens

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Athens, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Athens.

How does a metal roof handle Athens' heavy snow load and freeze-thaw cycles?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently because smooth metal surfaces don't grip snow like asphalt, reducing ice dam formation during Athens' roughly 93 freeze-thaw days per year. The panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, so they anchor securely under the weight and stress of about 138 cm of seasonal snow. Aluminum's non-corrosive oxide layer actually strengthens when exposed to repeated freeze-thaw cycling, unlike asphalt that breaks down and shingles that curl and split under those same conditions. Snow guards are available if you want to manage runoff, but the roof itself remains structurally sound through decades of winter stress.

Will an aluminum roof rust or corrode in Vermont's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; the 3105-H24 alloy used in every Interlock panel is specified in ASTM B209 and naturally forms a self-healing oxide protective layer. In Athens' 992 mm annual rainfall, that barrier blocks moisture penetration completely. Even when scratched, the oxide reforms on its own within days—a property steel roofing lacks entirely. Your roof is covered by a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty against rusting, so you're protected for life on the original owner and 50 years if the roof transfers with a sale. This is why Interlock panels have been installed everywhere from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations without corrosion failure.

Does freeze-thaw damage affect metal roofing?

Freeze-thaw cycles actually work in aluminum's favor, unlike asphalt shingles. Athens experiences about 93 freeze-thaw days annually, and that repeated expansion and contraction breaks down asphalt's binder, causing curling and cracking. Aluminum panels flex slightly with temperature swings and don't absorb moisture, so they don't expand or contract the way wood shake or concrete tile does. The material's composition (3003-H24 and 3105-H24 aluminum alloy) is engineered for precisely this stress. Over decades of your region's winter weather—roughly 138 cm of snow plus 17 km/h winds gusting to 116 km/h—the metal roof stays flat and intact while conventional materials deteriorate.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb per square foot—about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile—so most Athens homes need zero structural reinforcement. You can often install it directly over an existing asphalt roof, saving the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off. By comparison, concrete tile requires engineered support beams and sometimes foundation upgrades that add tens of thousands of dollars. Interlock's extreme lightness also means your home isn't bearing unnecessary stress through New England's heavy snow seasons (about 138 cm annually). The four-way interlocking system distributes loads evenly across the roof plane, and the design has been proven in service since 1998 from coastal installations to extreme environments.

Can an aluminum metal roof withstand Athens' wind speeds?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, well above Athens' typical gusts of about 116 km/h. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on all four sides, so wind cannot peel or lift individual shingles the way it can with asphalt. That same engineering is backed by ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) for compliance with current building codes. Over Windham County's windy seasons and the occasional severe storm gust, your metal roof stays secure because the system distributes lateral forces across the entire panel network rather than relying on adhesive or a few fasteners.

Will my homeowners insurance recognize a metal roof's hail resistance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Athens' 10-year climate data shows moderate hail risk, the Class 4 rating means your roof is protected against the worst-case impact scenarios. Some insurance carriers recognize this durability and offer discounts because metal roofing reduces claims frequency. The aluminum panel's inherent strength (3105-H24 alloy, ASTM B209 specification) combined with rigorous third-party testing (ICC-ES ESR-1790, Intertek listing 33876) gives underwriters confidence. Your premium reflects lower risk, which offsets some of the roofing investment over time and protects your family against the unexpected.

Does a metal roof save energy in New England?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorb it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84. In Athens' roughly 3032 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance matters: a lighter-colored metal roof stays cooler than dark asphalt, reducing air conditioning load during warm months. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms the coating's performance. Your Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is also warranted 30 years against fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244), so reflectance stays consistent—unlike asphalt that darkens and absorbs more heat as it ages. Over a 50+ year roof life, the energy savings from consistent reflectance add up, especially as cooling needs increase with climate trends.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need?

Interlock aluminum roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections, no algae treatment, no missing shingle replacement. That's because aluminum cannot rot, rust, or split; the self-healing oxide layer handles moisture exposure year-round. In contrast, asphalt roofs need debris removal after storms, moss treatment in shade, and shingle replacement every 15–20 years. Wood shake demands regular sealing and fungicide application, especially across New England's 992 mm annual rain and 138 cm snow. Your metal roof is warranted against splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—problems that drive maintenance costs on traditional roofs. After 50+ years, you'll have spent perhaps one afternoon checking gutters, versus hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on conventional roof upkeep.

Is aluminum roofing sustainable or environmentally friendly?

Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, unlike asphalt shingles that end up in landfills by the millions of tons each year. Your roof can be melted down and reformed into new products indefinitely without quality loss. Because aluminum panels install over most existing roofs, you avoid the tear-off cost and environmental impact of hauling old asphalt to the dump—keeping waste out of Windham County landfills. The manufacturing process (Delta, BC, since 1998) uses recycled aluminum content, so your roof's embodied carbon is lower than virgin material. Choosing a 50+ year roof that never needs replacement means fewer roofing cycles and far less waste per year of service. CALGreen verification confirms reduced environmental maintenance burden over the roof's lifetime.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Athens, Vermont?
