Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Bellows Falls, Vermont
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bellows Falls
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bellows Falls.
How does a metal roof handle Bellows Falls' heavy snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and four-way interlocking design create no gaps where ice can lodge and refreeze. Bellows Falls receives about 138 cm of snow annually across roughly 93 freeze-thaw days per year—a cycle that cracks and weakens asphalt shingles over time. Interlock panels remain dimensionally stable through freeze-thaw cycling, and their light weight (the Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even when snow accumulates. Snow guards are available if you want to manage runoff timing.
Why do freeze-thaw cycles damage asphalt roofs but not metal?
Asphalt absorbs moisture, expands when frozen, and cracks when it thaws—a cycle that accelerates over Bellows Falls' 93 annual freeze-thaw days. Aluminum does not absorb water and remains flexible across temperature swings. Its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so thermal expansion and contraction don't degrade the material. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading under these exact conditions (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested). Your roof stays intact for decades while asphalt roofs typically fail in 15–20 years in this climate.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust?
No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, aluminum forms an oxide layer that protects the metal underneath and self-heals when scratched or damaged. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels has been installed in salt-air coastal homes and Antarctic research stations since 1998 without corrosion failure. Bellows Falls averages 992 mm of rainfall yearly; that moisture accelerates rust in steel roofing but actually strengthens aluminum's protective oxide. The Guardian warranty covers rusting for the original owner's lifetime—a promise that wouldn't stand if corrosion were a real risk.
Can Interlock metal roofing withstand Vermont wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Bellows Falls experiences typical daily-max winds around 17 km/h with gusts reaching about 116 km/h, well within the rated capacity. The four-way interlocking design locks panels together at all edges, preventing the uplift and flutter that can peel asphalt shingles or tear standing-seam metal roofs. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind standards. A properly installed Interlock roof will not fail in Vermont's windstorms.
Does an Interlock metal roof protect against hail damage in Vermont?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That rating means the aluminum withstands repeated severe impacts without denting or puncturing. Many homeowners with metal roofs have seen insurance premiums drop because hail damage is virtually eliminated; check with your agent about potential discounts. Bellows Falls' climate includes hail risk during spring and summer storms. Unlike asphalt shingles, which crack and lose granules under impact, or slate tiles, which shatter, aluminum's strength and flexibility absorb the blow and spring back. A single metal roof outlasts multiple asphalt replacements across decades of hail exposure.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
Cooling costs are lower with energy-efficient Interlock colors, which reflect more solar heat than asphalt absorbs. Interlock's thermal emissivity reaches 0.84 and initial solar reflectance climbs to 0.55 on Aged Copper Penny—Cool Roof Rating Council verified. Bellows Falls enjoys about 3,032 sunshine hours annually, so that reflectivity matters. In summer, you reduce air-conditioning load; in winter, you retain interior heat better than dark roofing. The lighter color options are especially efficient because they reject the sun's warmth rather than converting it to heat inside your attic. Over a roof's 50+ year lifespan, the energy savings compound, offsetting the material's higher upfront cost.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, over the roof's full life. An asphalt roof costs less initially but fails in 15–20 years in Bellows Falls' climate (93 freeze-thaw cycles and 138 cm of snow per year accelerate deterioration). You then tear it off, haul it to landfill, and install a new one—repeat twice or more in 50 years. An Interlock metal roof, with its lifetime limited non-prorated warranty for the original owner (one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion), is a final roof. No replacements, no landfill fees, no repeated labor costs. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. The all-in cost over 50 years favors metal decisively.
What does the Interlock metal roof warranty actually cover?
The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for the original owner—no prorating. If you sell the home, the next owner inherits a one-time transferable warranty good for 50 years from installation completion. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating specifically carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured). This warranty exists because aluminum panels don't fail: no corrosion, no structural rot, no material degradation. Compare that to asphalt roofs, which typically carry 10–15 year warranties because the material breaks down predictably. A 50-year roof transfer term means your metal roof will likely outlive your ownership of the home itself.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require versus asphalt or tile?
Interlock metal roofs require virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections for granule loss, no tar resealing, no replacing split shakes. Asphalt shingles need regular upkeep because the material degrades; tile and slate require periodic re-bedding and mortar repair. Bellows Falls receives about 992 mm of rain annually; simple roof rinsing or leaf clearing during seasonal changes suffices for metal. The CALGreen certification verifies reduced maintenance compared to traditional materials. Your costs are realistically zero per year for the roof itself. Metal stands in contrast to wood shake (prone to rot and insect damage in Vermont's 93 freeze-thaw days), slate (expensive repairs from freeze-thaw cracking), and asphalt (routine deterioration that demands intervention).
Can an Interlock metal roof be installed over my existing shingles?
Yes—one major advantage of Interlock's light weight. The Mediterranean Tile profile installs at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so no structural reinforcement is needed and installation can proceed over most existing roofs without removal. That eliminates landfill fees and labor costs. The four-way interlocking panels install in rows, locking together at edges to create a unified weather seal. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and handles the install timeline efficiently. Specific scheduling depends on roof size and weather; typical projects complete in days rather than weeks. The installer verifies your deck can support the minimal added weight and proceeds with underlayment and fastening to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification (reissued 2025).
