Review: June 14, 2025 Completion: May 16, 2025

Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments

Review: May 14, 2025 Completion: November 19, 2024

This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!

Review: February 11, 2025 Completion: December 9, 2024

Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.

Review: November 21, 2024 Completion: October 29, 2024

We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.

Review: April 18, 2022 Completion: December 14, 2021

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation

Review: April 18, 2022 Completion: May 6, 2019

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation

Review: January 21, 2019 Completion: December 1, 2018

I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.

Review: January 13, 2019 Completion: December 22, 2018

Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Brookline

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Brookline, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Brookline.

Does metal roofing handle Brookline's heavy snow and ice well?

Yes—aluminum's smooth, slippery surface sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt. Brookline gets about 138 cm of snow annually, and that weight slides off metal rather than sitting and creating ice dams. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, so spring wind gusts up to 116 km/h won't budge panels as snow melts. You can add snow guards if you want to control where melt travels, but the metal itself won't trap moisture underneath, which is why freeze-thaw cycles—about 93 per year here—don't degrade aluminum like they do asphalt or wood.

Will Brookline's freeze-thaw cycles damage a metal roof?

No. Aluminum's oxide layer actually self-heals when scratched and expands and contracts without cracking or curling like asphalt and cedar do. With roughly 93 freeze-thaw days per year and close to 1000 mm of annual rainfall, your roof faces constant moisture and temperature swings. Asphalt becomes brittle in cold, then soft in spring; wood splits and rots. Aluminum flexes harmlessly through those cycles. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is rated 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244), and it's applied to both sides of every panel for extra protection in wet climates.

What's the hail rating on metal roofing, and will it help with insurance?

Interlock holds UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available—the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That's the same rating insurance companies use to qualify roofs for discounts. While Brookline doesn't see frequent severe hail, those sudden spring and summer thunderstorms can pack a punch, and having a roof that won't dent, perforate, or lose its protective coating gives you leverage on your premiums. Class 4 means your roof is built for impact events that would shred asphalt or break concrete tile, so bring your UL 2218 rating and warranty details to your insurance agent.

Is metal roofing too heavy for an older Brookline home?

Quite the opposite—it's dramatically lighter. The Cedar Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile, which mimics heavy clay, weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than real tile. Most Brookline homes can handle metal over their existing roof without any structural reinforcement, which saves thousands on framing work. You'll avoid the tear-off mess of old asphalt and the demolition costs that come with it. That light weight is one reason Interlock has been manufacturing since 1998 and installing on everything from New England farmhouses to Antarctic research stations—the structural math simply works everywhere.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you factor in the full lifecycle. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–20 years; you'll buy it multiple times over a lifetime. A metal roof's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, one-time transferable for 50 years to the next owner) means you're buying your last roof. With Brookline's 138 cm of snow, 992 mm rain, and 93 freeze-thaw days annually, asphalt deteriorates faster here than in milder climates. Metal doesn't curl, crack, or lose granules in those conditions. Right now, Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) is offering either no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—that's a concrete way to bridge the upfront gap while capturing the decades of value.

Will a metal roof stay put in Brookline's worst wind gusts?

Yes. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), and Brookline's typical spring and fall gusts reach about 116 km/h—well within that safety margin. The panels lock together on all four sides, so individual panels can't lift or separate the way asphalt shingles do. Regional wind data shows occasional gusts near the warranty threshold, which is why that 120 mph spec matters here; you're not oversized, you're matched. Combined with the lightweight aluminum design, the interlocking system prevents the uplift forces that tear traditional roofs apart during nor'easters.

How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Virtually none. Metal doesn't crack, curl, split, or lose protective granules like asphalt—it just sheds rain and snow. Unlike cedar shake, it won't rot or harbor moss even in Brookline's wet climate with about 1000 mm of annual rainfall. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) and CALGreen verification confirm it's engineered for reduced maintenance. Occasionally check gutters for debris and trim overhanging branches, but the roof itself cleans itself. No resealing, no algae treatment, no missing-shingle calls after 93 freeze-thaw cycles per year—asphalt homeowners can't say the same.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Brookline, Vermont?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. serves Brookline and the entire Windham County region since 1999. They're the local installer with 25+ years of experience installing aluminum roofing in Vermont's demanding climate—heavy snow, freeze-thaw cycles, and wet springs. They understand local building codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790), the specific profiles that work best on regional architecture, and how to work with your existing structure. They can walk you through the financing options (currently no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off), answer questions about installing over your current roof, and handle the warranty paperwork for the Guardian lifetime limited coverage.

Can a metal roof help lower cooling costs in summer?

Yes—energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it like asphalt does. Brookline receives about 3032 hours of sunshine annually, so every sunny day counts. Metal roofing with energy-efficiency ratings has thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (measured on Aged Copper Penny), keeping heat out instead of trapping it in your attic. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these colors, meaning they reduce the cooling load your air conditioning has to carry. Over a long Vermont summer, that reflection adds up, especially if you're cooling upstairs bedrooms that sit under a traditional dark roof.

What exactly does the metal roof warranty cover, and for how long?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion, which means resale appeal and peace of mind. Unlike prorated warranties that fade over time, yours doesn't diminish. The Alunar coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. That combination—lifetime material coverage plus a half-century transfer term—reflects Interlock's confidence in 27 years of manufacturing (since 1998) and installation from coastal salt-air to Antarctic research stations.
