Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Camano, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Some preformed material would help with the installation. There was a huge amount of pounding and bending required to install the material.
The company could have improved the communication between the installers and management.
Nothing that I can think of! Everyone was great! So far, i am happy with the outcome. I'm sure if I have any concerns or questions in the future, they will be taken care of promptly. Thanks!
I am not going to fill out this report, you have not fixed the damage to my rail on my deck yet. When do you plan on fixing the damage? Have a nice day.\\
The only thing was that we ran out of roofing, so I ended up having to check back with them a couple of days later to find out when they would come back out. The improvement could be just a phone call to let the homeowner know the timeframe it will be in, when things like this happen.
None they have done a fantastic job We are extremely happy with our new roof
Exerting more care and accuracy when nailing the plywood down to the existing carport trusses. I was surprised at how quickly the roof came together and to completion. We are both extremely pleased with the new roof. This has been a very bad spring in terms of tree pollen and it settled on the new roof and gave it an orange cast. When the first rain hit about a week ago, it washed the roof completely and the orange cast is gone! :)
I would do it, but hesitantly. The company, unquestionably. However, due to the problems with the installation crew, not so much so. Train crews all over the nation on doing a daily cleanup, if for nothing more than the safety of the homeowner.Keeping the homeowner advised on the status of their project. I think that I've made enough comments above. If anyone would like further clarification, our number is (360) 679-0820.
Providing the homeowner a project timeline so we knew what to expect and when. Basically, a step-by-step plan so we could track along. When working on the roof over our new front deck, they could have laid down protective material to prevent the new decking from being damaged.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Camano
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Camano, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Camano.
How does a metal roof handle snow in Camano's winter climate?
Metal roofing sheds snow effectively because its smooth, hard surface prevents accumulation and ice dam formation that plague asphalt. Camano averages about 37 cm of snow annually with 31 freeze-thaw cycles per year—exactly the pattern that causes repeated ice-dam damage to conventional roofs. Aluminum's non-porous surface and four-way interlocking panels create a sealed system that prevents water from seeping under panels during melt cycles. Optional snow guards are available if you want to retain snow for insulation or prevent slides onto walkways below.
Does aluminum roofing rust in coastal or damp climates like Camano?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in water. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath and self-heals when scratched. Camano receives about 1148 mm of rain yearly plus salt-air exposure from its island location; that's precisely why Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides of every panel. This dual-sided protection is rare in the industry and reflects Interlock's experience installing from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in Camano's climate?
Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect sunlight rather than absorb it, reducing the heat that reaches your attic even in a temperate maritime climate. Camano enjoys about 2898 sunshine hours per year, and colors like Aged Copper Penny achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 with thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce light away instead of storing heat. Over a 50-year roof life, this efficiency compounds. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms the reflective advantage over asphalt, which absorbs rather than reflects the sun's energy.
How does an aluminum metal roof perform in Camano's windstorms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above Camano's typical gust speeds, which average about 112 km/h. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across multiple panels so no single panel bears the full force of a gust; each edge is secured to the one adjacent to it. The warranty covers this performance explicitly. For a maritime climate with frequent wind pressure from water-influenced weather systems, this engineered redundancy matters more than shingle overlap, which can lift and separate under extreme gusts.
Does aluminum roofing get damaged easily by hail, and will my insurance care?
No—Interlock carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's structural properties allow it to absorb impact without cracking or losing integrity the way slate, tile, or wood shake do. While Camano's annual hail risk is lower than inland valleys, insurance underwriters recognize Class 4 durability and may offer premium discounts for non-degradable roofs that eliminate claim risk. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating to explore savings.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Interlock is a lifetime roof, not a 20-year temporary one. You'll install asphalt four to five times over 50 years—each tear-off costs labor and landfill fees—while aluminum installs once and transfers to the next owner with 50 years of remaining coverage. The Guardian warranty is non-prorated, meaning full coverage for life on your watch. Current financing through Spring 2027 offers no payments and no interest or 10% off installation, eliminating the sticker-shock barrier. Over the roof's life, the math favors aluminum decisively.
What warranty backs an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it really last?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion—a benefit asphalt cannot offer. Interlock has manufactured these panels since 1998, and field installations now spanning 25+ years show no degradation in performance. The Alunar coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). This is the only roof you'll need.
Can my house handle a metal roof, or will I need expensive structural work?
Almost certainly no structural reinforcement needed. Interlock's Slate profile weighs about 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake about 0.58, and the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates the heaviest traditional option—about 0.59 lb/sq ft. The Tile profile is approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so it installs directly over most existing roofs without framing upgrades. Your home was already built to support the weight it currently carries; aluminum metal roofing typically weighs less than the asphalt you're replacing. This advantage accelerates installation and eliminates the cost and disruption of structural reinforcement.
Is there a qualified installer serving Camano for Interlock metal roofing?
Yes—Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and maintains direct familiarity with Camano's climate patterns, building codes, and installation best practices. Local knowledge matters: your installer understands how the island's 31 annual freeze-thaw cycles affect flashing details, how salt air and 1148 mm of rain require proper underlayment sequencing, and how wind gusts to 112 km/h demand correct panel fastening. A 25-year regional track record with the same product means accountability and expertise you can verify in your neighborhood.
Is aluminum roofing fire-safe, and does it matter for my homeowner's insurance?
Aluminum is non-combustible and Class A fire-rated when you select this option—the highest fire classification available. Interlock's ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for current IBC/IRC code) confirms compliance, and CALGreen verification documents the reduced maintenance and safety profile. Class A rating may interest your insurance carrier, though Camano's wildfire risk is moderate compared to inland regions. More immediately, non-combustibility means your roof cannot contribute fuel to a structure fire, giving you one less vulnerability in an emergency.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Camano’s climate?
Yes. Camano averages about 37 cm of snow, 1148 mm of rain, roughly 31 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 112 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
