Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Utsalady, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
First I would like to say Thank you to your roofers Alex and Aven for a job well done on the installation of my new Interlock aluminum alloy slate roof in Tudor brown. Both men were here each day and worked diligently and conscientiously making sure that each step of their work was done to the highest expectations and meticulous at each step of the process and answered any questions that I had. In addition as they worked on different sections of the roof they were as quiet as possible for my daughter works nights at a local hospital and sleeps during the day. What a difference in curb appeal my Interlock roof has made to my house. It really stands out on the street and is a a lot quieter then the old cedar shake roof of 30 years. I am also most pleased with Interlocks high quality features, durability, and appearance during a recent rain shower and is maintenance free. The solar skylight installed with my new roof has made my upstairs hallway brighter. I love it. I would also like to thank Mr. Glen Caldwell for coming out from " title="Seattle" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Seattle and showing me the Interlock Roofing System, as the choice was mode easier by his presentation, and Heather for helping me with securing the container and for being patient while I got my financial situation in order. And finally, I would like to thank Alex and Aven for looking over my new Interlock roof one last time and making sure all roof debris was picked up and in the big container. Thank you I am very happy with my new roof.
The installation of our Interlock Roof System was completed this week to our total satisfaction and expectation! The compliments of our new roof are just beginning to be received. Your installation crew of three young men, headed by Peter, are to be commended as they did an outstanding job of removing the old shingle roof, sheeting the roof surface with 1/2" CDX plywood prior to installing the interlocking aluminum panels of Tudor Brown. Our 3,000 sq. ft. home has numerous hips and ">valleys making it a more complicated roofing system than normal, but your installation crew was able to complete the project within ten working days. The crew's work ethic elicited several admiring comments from neighbors. One comment was, 'lt would be difficult to find a more hard working and thorough crew than what you had working on your home". We also appreciated the fact that the crew left the premises orderly after each day's work and completely removed all debris when the project was completed. The entire process from the visit of your sales representative, Glen Caldwell, to the work phase of the installation crew was done most professionally. The end product is a roof that reflects quality and one that we will not have to replace in our lifetime. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Utsalady
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Utsalady, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Utsalady.
Will a metal roof hold up to Island County's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Utsalady experiences about 47 freeze-thaw days per year, which breaks down asphalt and causes wood to crack and curl, but aluminum expands and contracts without losing its structural integrity or developing splits. The 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels is specifically chosen for this kind of cycling. Unlike slate or tile roofs that can shatter under ice stress, aluminum panels flex slightly and reset. Your roof will handle decades of Puget Sound winters without deterioration.
How does a metal roof handle 1,300+ mm of rain per year without leaking?
The four-way interlocking design is the key—water flows downward and outward, never sideways into the seams. Utsalady averages about 1,312 mm of rain annually, and that volume moves safely off the roof because each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides. Combined with a solid deck and underlayment beneath, Interlock meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 building code requirements for water management. The panels' overlap geometry means pooling water simply cannot find a path into your home, even during the heaviest Puget Sound downpours.
Do I need to worry about snow buildup or ice dams on my metal roof?
Metal roofs shed snow naturally because they conduct and reflect heat differently than asphalt. With about 43 cm of annual snow in Utsalady, ice dam risk is real for dark shingles, but Interlock's smooth, interlocking surface encourages snow to slide off as temperatures fluctuate through those 47 freeze-thaw cycles. The low weight—the Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural concern even if snow accumulates briefly. Optional snow guards are available if you want to control sliding for safety. The real win is no gutter icing that traps water against your fascia.
Why doesn't an aluminum roof rust in wet, salty Island County air?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxide. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer the moment it's exposed to air. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum with a 70% PVDF Alunar coating applied to both sides, giving double protection in salt air environments. The 30-year warranty on coating chalk and fade (ASTM D4214/D2244) means your roof's color and finish resist corrosion through wet winters and coastal moisture without the deterioration that steel or iron-heavy alloys experience. This is why Interlock installs on Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes worldwide.
Will my metal roof stay secure in Island County wind gusts?
Island County gusts reach about 100 km/h regularly, and Interlock panels are warranted to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides—not just nailed at the perimeter like asphalt shingles. That engineering means wind cannot find a weak point or edge to lift. The panels move as one assembly, distributing wind force across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. Your roof stays intact through the seasonal storms that send asphalt shingles airborne.
Does a metal roof perform well in hail, and might that lower my insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. This matters in Island County where spring and early summer hail is a regional reality. Class 4 aluminum stops hail damage that would dent or puncture asphalt or crack tile. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs; contact your agent with the UL rating and warranty details. Over a roof's 50+ year lifespan, those insurance savings compound significantly.
Can my existing house frame support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile—so it installs safely over most existing roofs without structural upgrades. The Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft is lighter still. In Utsalady's climate of 43 cm snow and wind gusts to 100 km/h, that light weight is an advantage: your home absorbs less total load through those seasonal cycles. A structural engineer's blessing is rare because aluminum roofs are simply too light to pose a concern; most homes can go straight to installation.
What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof actually require in the Pacific Northwest?
Minimal. Unlike asphalt shingles that need algae treatment and tab replacement, wood shake that splits and curls, or tile that cracks, aluminum requires only occasional gutter cleaning and visual inspection. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance profile means no recoating, no sealant reapplication, and no structural repairs from rot or weathering. Utsalady's 2,942 sunshine hours annually keep the roof dry between rains; the 1,312 mm annual rainfall rinses away debris. A gentle annual rinse—or just letting Puget Sound rain do it—keeps your roof looking new for decades without labor or cost.
Does metal roofing help keep my home cooler and reduce energy bills?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have thermal emissivity to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect more heat than dark asphalt absorbs. In Utsalady's 2,942 annual sunshine hours, that reflection compounds daily, especially during spring and summer. The Cool Roof Rating Council validation confirms measurable energy savings. While Pacific Northwest summers are mild, the reflective advantage reduces HVAC load year-round and lowers cooling costs. Combined with the lifetime warranty and no maintenance expense, the operational savings make aluminum an investment that pays for itself gradually across decades.
