Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Melbourne, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Melbourne
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Melbourne, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Melbourne.
How does a metal roof handle Melbourne's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties resist ice dam formation. Melbourne averages about 63 cm of snow annually with roughly 20 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are rated for full snow load, and the lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement needed. Snow guards are available if you want to manage runoff. The aluminum won't expand and contract like wood or absorb moisture that leads to rot.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust in the rainy Pacific Northwest?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rusting requires iron to oxidize. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the underlying metal. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. With 1662 mm of annual rainfall and coastal moisture in Grays Harbor County, this dual-side coating—applied at the factory—is your defense. Even if the finish scratches, the oxide layer automatically reforms. Steel roofing requires constant vigilance; aluminum simply works.
What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance premium?
Interlock metal roofing earns UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 impact resistance is rare; most asphalt and wood roofs max out at Class 1 or 2. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated metal roofs. Ask your agent about your specific policy. In Grays Harbor County, where wind gusts routinely reach 106 km/h and severe weather does occur, this certification gives you both real protection and potential savings that offset the roof's upfront cost over decades.
Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing asphalt shingles without reinforcement?
Yes. Interlock's Slate installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile—which visually mimics heavy clay or concrete tile—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft. That's roughly 96% lighter than the tile it replicates, so your existing framing handles it without reinforcement. A traditional clay tile roof can exceed 10 lb/sq ft; asphalt shingles run 2–3 lb/sq ft. Interlock aluminum sits between them but vastly closer to asphalt, making it ideal for retrofit work in Melbourne homes. This lightweight advantage also eases installation logistics, reduces labor time, and means faster completion on a tight schedule.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt or wood?
Aluminum metal roofs require virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning. Unlike asphalt, which deteriorates under UV (2776 sunshine hours annually in Melbourne accelerate breakdown), metal won't curl, crack, or split. Wood shakes rot in 1662 mm of annual rain unless constantly treated. Interlock's Alunar coating handles weathering without resealing, repainting, or replacement of individual shingles. The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and transferable for 50 years—a guarantee asphalt cannot match. You're not replacing shingles every 15–20 years; you install once and move forward. The CALGreen-verified roofing profile confirms reduced maintenance burden.
Will a metal roof stay secure during Grays Harbor County's high-wind events?
Four-way interlocking panels are engineered specifically for wind. Interlock roofing is warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Melbourne's typical wind gusts reach 106 km/h—well within the roof's rated capacity—and the four-way lock means each panel is secured to its neighbors, distributing lateral forces across the entire system. Unlike loose shingles, which lift and tear, aluminum panels move as one unit. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance under severe wind loads. Install Interlock, and you're not repositioning shingles after every windstorm or filing insurance claims for wind damage.
What architectural styles does Interlock metal roofing come in?
Interlock offers five distinct profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each panel interlocks four ways and can be powder-coated in a range of energy-efficiency and standard colors to match period homes or modern designs. Slate suits traditional or contemporary residences; Cedar Shingle and Shake replicate wood aesthetics without rot risk in Melbourne's 1662 mm annual rainfall; Mediterranean Tile delivers Old World charm without the weight penalty. Standing Seam appeals to commercial or industrial applications. All profiles are manufactured to the same aluminum alloy and durability standard (ASTM B209, ESR-1790) and carry the same lifetime limited warranty. Your choice is aesthetic, not a trade-off in performance.
How does the cost of metal roofing compare to asphalt over the roof's lifetime?
Over 50+ years, metal roofing costs less than the asphalt-replace cycle. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years; you'll reroof 2–3 times before an Interlock aluminum roof reaches mid-life. Factor material, labor, and landfill disposal for each replacement, plus the near-zero maintenance costs of metal, and the total cost-of-ownership tips sharply in aluminum's favor. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and 50-year transferable term eliminate replacement anxiety. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. A $15,000–$25,000 install today avoids $40,000–$60,000+ in asphalt reroof cycles. This is genuinely the last roof you buy.
What does the Guardian Warranty actually cover, and how long does it last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering defects in rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Non-prorated means you're covered the same at year 1 as year 30 with no deductible scaling. The warranty transfers once to the next owner, extending 50 years from project completion. This transferability adds value if you sell; future buyers inherit decades of protection. Compare that to asphalt's 10–15 year warranty, often prorated. Interlock aluminum, manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998 and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, has proven durability. The 50-year transfer term is unmatched in roofing.
Is metal roofing actually more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Aluminum roofing breaks the landfill cycle. Asphalt shingles are petroleum-based, non-recyclable, and millions of tons end up in landfills every year. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life and retain value as scrap aluminum. Because metal roofs last 50+ years versus asphalt's 15–20 year lifespan, you eliminate 2–3 tearoff and replacement cycles. That's far less waste, fuel, and labor over a homeowner's tenure. Additionally, energy-efficient Interlock colors (thermal emissivity up to 0.84, solar reflectance up to 0.55) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling demand and urban heat island effect. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy benefit—genuine sustainability, not marketing.
