Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Roche Harbor

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Roche Harbor, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Roche Harbor.

Will a metal roof handle San Juan County's snow and ice?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface prevents ice dams from forming and locking moisture against your home. Roche Harbor receives about 30 cm of snow annually, and with typical winter freeze-thaw cycles running about 15 days per year, that cycling causes real damage to asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above your region's typical 111 km/h peak gusts, so snow guards stay secure and slippage is predictable.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it physically cannot rust. Instead, it forms a transparent oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched. In San Juan County's moist, salt-influenced maritime climate, this matters enormously because steel begins corroding immediately once its protective coating fails. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. That dual-sided coating was specifically engineered for coastal salt-air exposure, making it far more durable than single-sided protection in your location.

How does a metal roof handle Roche Harbor's 1015 mm of annual rain?

The four-way interlocking design creates a self-locking weather barrier: each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides, so water runs down and out rather than pooling or migrating upward. Combined with proper underlayment and installation over a solid deck, this system stops leaks at the source. At 1015 mm annually, your region receives steady, persistent moisture—not dramatic storms—which means consistent, gentle runoff is far more important than shedding occasional downpours. The interlocking geometry handles both scenarios, with no exposed fasteners to corrode or fail in wet conditions.

Is a metal roof really the last roof you buy, or just marketing?

The math is straightforward: asphalt shingles last 15-20 years in your climate; a metal roof is warranted by Interlock's Guardian Warranty as a lifetime limited non-prorated material warranty for the original owner. That single difference means no replacement labor, no landfill disposal, and no roof-off-and-on cycles eating into your home's equity for the next 50+ years. Financing is available now—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027—so the upfront cost spreads across time while you stop paying for replacements. Even accounting for today's economics, one roof instead of three or four over 60 years is the permanent solution.

Do reflective metal roofs actually lower cooling costs in the Pacific Northwest?

Yes, especially on sunny days. Roche Harbor averages about 3119 hours of sunshine annually, and while PNW summers are mild, every degree of heat reflection reduces air-conditioning load. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), meaning they reflect far more of the sun's energy than dark asphalt, which absorbs it. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification backs this measurably. Over a 50-year lifespan, that's significant compound savings on utility costs, plus the coating's 30-year warranty ensures the reflectance doesn't degrade.

Can my house frame handle a metal roof without reinforcement?

Almost certainly yes, without any structural upgrades. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake profile is just 0.58 lb/sq ft. Most homes already support the seasonal snow load (30 cm annually in your area) plus the weight of existing roofing and insulation; aluminum metal roofing fits comfortably within that envelope. The Slate profile goes even lighter at 0.41 lb/sq ft. Because there's no need for structural reinforcement, installation can proceed directly over most existing roofs, reducing labor time and keeping your project on schedule.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Virtually none compared to asphalt or wood shake. Asphalt shingles curl, crack, and lose granules—especially through Roche Harbor's 15 annual freeze-thaw cycles, which exact a toll no single material avoids. Wood shake splits and rots under constant 1015 mm annual rainfall. Aluminum doesn't degrade: it won't rot, split, curl, or crack, eliminating the cycle of repairs and replacements. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish resists dirt adhesion, so rain naturally cleans the surface. Guardian Warranty covers cracking, curling, loss of impact resistance, and rotting—none of which occur with aluminum—so your claims exposure is genuinely minimal.

Will a metal roof stay on in Roche Harbor's windstorms?

Your region sees typical daily-max winds around 20 km/h with gusts reaching 111 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The interlocking geometry means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on all four sides—no single wind gust can lift or separate one panel from the next. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with current wind-load codes for your region. That level of wind resistance is especially valuable in a maritime location where storm surge and seasonal wind shifts are normal seasonal events.

Does a metal roof get damaged by hail, and will my insurance notice?

Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 impact resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance premium discounts because the roof stops damage that would destroy asphalt shingles. While San Juan County isn't in a severe hail zone, spring and early-summer weather patterns can produce surprise hail events, and aluminum's hardness simply shrugs them off. Many insurers recognize this durability difference, so contact your agent about potential savings once your metal roof is installed—the investment often pays a dividend.

Is there an Interlock installer in the San Juan Islands area?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997, bringing nearly three decades of experience to San Juan County installations. The company understands local conditions—the salt air, persistent moisture, wind exposure, and freeze-thaw cycles—and knows which profiles and colors work best in your specific microclimate. They handle the complete process from inspection through final installation, and because they're local, warranty service and follow-up are straightforward. Current financing runs no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or you can choose 10% off installation, making now an accessible time to get on the schedule.
