Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Beach

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Beach, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Beach.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in West Beach winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice faster than asphalt because aluminum conducts heat away from the roof surface, reducing ice dam formation even during the approximately 15 freeze-thaw cycles West Beach experiences annually. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified surface with no gaps where ice can catch, and the smooth profiles allow snow to slide safely when it does accumulate. With about 30 cm of snow per year on average, optional snow guards can be installed to control snow release if desired. The aluminum's light weight (the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even if snow sits temporarily.

Why doesn't an aluminum metal roof rust in a coastal climate like West Beach?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element responsible for rust in steel. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the underlying metal from corrosion. When scratched, this layer automatically reforms, making aluminum ideal for West Beach's salt-air environment and higher wind gusts averaging up to 111 km/h. Interlock panels are manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and finished with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides—extra insurance against salt spray. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers rusting, giving original owners lifetime protection.

Can a metal roof withstand West Beach's wind and storm gusts?

Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together so tightly that they resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—well above West Beach's typical maximum gusts of about 111 km/h. The interlocking design distributes wind forces across the entire roof system rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners, which is why the warranty covers full wind resistance. With around 3,119 sunshine hours per year, you'll spend most of that time under a roof engineered to perform during the region's worst weather. The mechanical interlock means no nails or screws holding individual shingles—the panels themselves create the structural resistance.

Does a metal roof protect against hail damage, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This superior performance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because metal roofs reduce claims risk compared to asphalt. West Beach averages about 1,015 mm of rain annually with occasional severe weather, making impact resistance valuable. Request a formal impact test report (UL 2218 documentation) when discussing your policy with your insurer; many carriers recognize this rating and adjust premiums accordingly. The non-combustible aluminum also satisfies Class A fire requirements, another discount category.

Will a metal roof reduce my heating and cooling costs?

Metal roofing reduces cooling costs by reflecting solar heat that asphalt absorbs. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance as high as 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning less heat transfers into your home during West Beach's approximately 3,119 annual sunshine hours. Even at this latitude, summer cooling matters; reflective coatings make a measurable difference in utility bills over decades. The Cool Roof Rating Council independently verifies these values, ensuring you're not relying on marketing claims. Combined with aluminum's natural conductivity and the Alunar fluorocarbon finish's 30-year warranty against fading, your roof's reflectivity remains stable long-term.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. There is no granule loss, no curling, no splitting, and no algae growth on aluminum. Occasional gutter cleaning is all that's typically needed—no pressure washing, no recoating, no repairs. Asphalt roofs degrade from UV exposure, especially over West Beach's 3,119 sunshine hours annually, requiring costly repairs or replacement every 15–20 years. Wood shakes crack and rot from the region's approximately 1,015 mm annual rainfall and 15 freeze-thaw cycles. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, and the Guardian Warranty covers splitting and cracking at zero cost. You're buying a roof that essentially maintains itself.

Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing roof without reinforcement?

Yes. Metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the look of heavy clay or concrete tile, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft and weighs about 96% less than actual tile. This means no structural reinforcement is required, and installation can proceed directly over most existing roofs, eliminating tear-off costs and landfill waste. Concrete or clay tile, by contrast, demands expensive structural upgrades. The Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, making it lighter still. This weight advantage matters in a region with approximately 30 cm of annual snow and gusts up to 111 km/h; less roof mass means less structural stress and simpler installation. Building officials recognize this in ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790.

Can I get the look of slate, cedar shakes, or tile in a metal roof?

Yes. Interlock offers five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each engineered to replicate traditional materials in authentic detail while delivering aluminum's durability. Choose based on your architectural style and aesthetic preference; the underlying protection remains identical across all profiles. Slate and Cedar Shingle suit historic or contemporary homes, Shake and Mediterranean Tile evoke rustic or coastal elegance, and Standing Seam offers modern minimalism. Every profile interlocks identically, resists the same wind (up to 120 mph), and carries the same 30-year coating warranty and lifetime limited Guardian Warranty. Your choice is purely visual—the engineering performance and protection are constant.

What does the lifetime warranty actually cover, and can I transfer it if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—essentially every failure mode that ends a traditional roof's life. Once you transfer ownership, the new owner receives 50 years of coverage from the completion date, making your roof a selling point. This two-tier structure reflects aluminum's genuine lifespan; no other roofing material offers this protection. The warranty is backed by Interlock's manufacturing heritage since 1998 in Delta, BC, and its installation record from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. In West Beach's approximately 1,015 mm annual rainfall and 15 freeze-thaw cycles, this coverage gives genuine peace of mind.

Is a metal roof actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, breaking the asphalt cycle of tear-off to landfill. When an asphalt roof fails (typically every 15–20 years in West Beach's climate of 1,015 mm rain and 15 freeze-thaw cycles), tons of material go to landfills. Metal roofing, by contrast, can be recycled indefinitely without degradation. Because it installs over existing roofs, you avoid the environmental cost of tear-off and disposal. Interlock roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning no chemical treatments, no frequent replacement cycles, and no ongoing environmental burden. Over a 50-year ownership span—the transfer warranty term—a metal roof's environmental footprint is negligible compared to asphalt's repeated cycles.
