Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Thatcher, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Thatcher
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Thatcher, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Thatcher.
How does a metal roof handle Thatcher's snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably because the smooth, sloped surface prevents accumulation that traps moisture. With about 30 cm of snow and roughly 15 freeze-thaw days annually in San Juan County, the risk of ice dam damage is real for traditional roofing. Aluminum's thermal properties and smooth finish mean snow naturally slides rather than bonding to the material. Optional snow guards let you control shedding. The panels' light weight—the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement needed even with seasonal loading.
Why doesn't aluminum rust, and does that matter in the Pacific Northwest?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air. In coastal and maritime climates like San Juan County, this matters enormously. Steel roofing oxidizes and degrades, but the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels resists corrosion even in salt air and high-moisture environments. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating—applied to both sides—adds 30 years of warranted protection against fade and chalking. With roughly 1,015 mm of annual rainfall and persistent damp conditions, an aluminum roof doesn't depend on coatings alone to survive; the base material itself is chemically stable.
Will a metal roof blow off in San Juan County winds?
No. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and San Juan County's typical gusts reach about 111 km/h (69 mph). The interlocking design—where each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides—distributes wind load across the entire roof assembly. When installed to specification over solid deck and underlayment, the system functions as a unified membrane. Local gusts and the region's frequent breezy conditions pose no threat to a properly fastened Interlock roof. The warranty covers wind resistance, and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms compliance with IBC/IRC standards.
How tough is aluminum roofing against hail, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum roofing's dent and impact resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; check with your carrier. San Juan County's maritime climate rarely produces severe hail, but spring storms do occur. The Class 4 rating means your roof handles the worst hail events the region can produce without compromising integrity. Many insurers recognize that aluminum's durability and impact resistance reduce claim risk, translating to lower premiums over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.
Do reflective metal roofing colors actually cut cooling costs in this climate?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, which means they reflect solar heat instead of absorbing it like asphalt. Thatcher receives about 3,119 hours of sunshine annually—most months see clear days between rain—so reflective coatings genuinely reduce cooling costs. The Cool Roof Rating Council verifies these values. Because the region's winters are cool (mean 10.5°C) and summers mild, the energy gain is modest, but spring and fall bring warm spells where a reflective roof prevents attic heat buildup. Over decades, the cumulative energy savings and reduced air-conditioning demand add real value.
Can my house handle a metal roof without expensive structural upgrades?
Almost certainly yes, because aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft; even the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes in Thatcher can support this weight without reinforcement. The lightweight design means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs, avoiding costly tear-offs and structural work. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms that aluminum roofing's minimal load poses no structural risk to code-compliant homes. Compare this to slate or tile: you'd pay thousands for structural reinforcement before installation could begin.
How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof really need?
Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Aluminum doesn't crack, curl, split, or rot—the Guardian Warranty covers all five. Rain and snow naturally shed; no resealing required. Leaves and debris rinse clean with water. The 30-year Alunar coating resists chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested), so the finish stays vibrant. With Thatcher's 1,015 mm of annual rainfall, a metal roof self-cleans during storms. Wood shakes demand periodic treatment; concrete tile traps moss and requires scrubbing; asphalt deteriorates in UV and weather. Aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning fewer service calls, no treatment chemicals, and decades between any significant work.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it really last?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. Because aluminum doesn't rust and the 30-year PVDF coating resists fade, the roof's protective layers don't degrade like asphalt or wood. Installed in 1998 and deployed globally from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, Interlock panels prove longevity in real conditions. In Thatcher's maritime climate—with 15 annual freeze-thaw days and persistent moisture—aluminum's stability means this is genuinely your last roof.
Is aluminum roofing better for the environment than asphalt?
Interlock's aluminum panels are roughly 95% recyclable at end of life, breaking the asphalt shingle cycle entirely. Asphalt roofs shed 20+ million tons to landfills annually across North America; aluminum avoids that waste stream. The material's lightweight design means lower transportation emissions during installation. Because the roof lasts 50+ years, you replace it far fewer times than asphalt (which needs replacement every 15–25 years). Manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, Interlock panels reduce the carbon footprint of repeated tear-offs and disposal. San Juan County's environmental values align with choosing a roof that doesn't end up in a landfill and can be recycled infinitely without degradation.
What does a metal roof that looks like slate or shake actually look like?
Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, each replicating traditional materials faithfully. The Slate mimics natural split-face texture; the Cedar Shingle and Shake capture wood's shadow lines and dimensional depth; the Tile delivers authentic barrel-vault curves. The four-way interlocking seams are nearly invisible from the street because the panels overlap and layer like real shingles or tiles. Colors—aged copper, charcoal, forest green, russet—age naturally over time, developing patina rather than fading flat. You get the authentic architectural character of slate, cedar, or tile with aluminum's durability, lightweight installation, and zero maintenance.
