Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Richardson, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Richardson
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Richardson, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Richardson.
How does a metal roof handle Richardson's snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents freeze-thaw bonding. Richardson averages about 30 cm of snow annually with roughly 15 freeze-thaw days per year, which is exactly the pattern that causes ice dams on conventional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay secure under snow load, and the lightweight aluminum design—about 96% lighter than slate or tile—means no structural reinforcement is needed. Snow guards can be added where needed. The slippery aluminum surface itself is your advantage in this climate.
Why don't aluminum roofs rust, and does that matter in Washington?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. When scratched, this layer reforms automatically. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a 30-year Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides. In San Juan County's wet climate—over 1000 mm of annual rainfall—steel roofs corrode steadily. Aluminum's oxide barrier means your roof resists moisture year-round without surface degradation, backed by the Guardian's lifetime limited material warranty against rusting.
Can a metal roof withstand Richardson's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. San Juan County experiences typical daily winds around 20 km/h with gusts reaching 111 km/h, well within that rating. The interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This system has been tested and proven in coastal installations across the Pacific Northwest since 1997. Your insurance provider may also recognize this wind resistance.
Is a metal roof worth the cost over asphalt in the long run?
Comparing first cost to lifetime cost tells the real story. Asphalt shingles cost less upfront but typically last 15–25 years and require tear-off, disposal, and replacement. Interlock offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and a 50-year transferable term for the next owner—meaning you buy one roof, not three. Over a 50-year horizon, the math shifts dramatically in aluminum's favor when you factor in landfill costs, labor, and the compounding price of asphalt replacement. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum profiles are extraordinarily light: the Slate installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means the roof can often install directly over your existing shingles, saving removal and disposal costs. Interlock can install over most existing roofs because the weight is comparable to or lighter than what your home was built to carry. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) confirms compliance with current building codes for residential applications without reinforcement.
What's involved in installing a metal roof, and how long does it take?
Installation depends on whether we remove your old roof or install over it. Because Interlock aluminum is so light, overlaying your existing shingles is often possible, reducing labor and disposal costs. The installation process itself is faster than asphalt—panels interlock in rows, requiring no tar or individual fastening of thousands of shingles. Timeline varies by roof size and weather; in Richardson's ~3119 annual sunshine hours, we can typically complete most residential roofs in 2–5 days. We handle code compliance per ICC-ES ESR-1790 and ensure proper flashing and underlayment for your wet climate. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served this region since 1997.
Will a metal roof help with heating and cooling costs?
Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect more solar heat than asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling costs in summer. The reflective coatings achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), measured per the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Richardson's climate with about 3119 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance matters even though winters are cold and wet. Metal's thermal properties also allow better attic ventilation compared to asphalt, which traps heat. The combination keeps your home cooler in summer and supports more consistent winter heating—a genuine energy advantage in your specific climate zone.
Can metal roofing look like slate, cedar shake, or tile?
Yes. Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the visual depth and dimension of traditional materials using four-way interlocking aluminum panels finished in a range of colors. The Slate profile suits modern homes; Cedar Shingle and Shake echo traditional Pacific Northwest architecture; Mediterranean Tile suits period or transitional styles; Standing Seam provides clean contemporary lines. All profiles are the same non-rusting, durable aluminum underneath—you're choosing aesthetics, not compromising durability. These designs have been manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998 and installed from coastal homes to an Antarctic research station.
What warranty backs an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty protects against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. This means a new buyer receives 50 years of coverage on your roof. Given Richardson's high rainfall (over 1000 mm annually) and freeze-thaw cycles (about 15 per year), this warranty is realistic protection, not marketing—aluminum oxide doesn't degrade like asphalt or wood.
How well does a metal roof hold up to hail, and can it lower insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This resilience may qualify you for an insurance discount—check with your provider. San Juan County's climate profile does not indicate frequent severe hail, but the Class 4 rating provides full protection against the worst-case scenario. Aluminum's hardness and four-way interlocking design distribute impact force across the panel system rather than concentrating it at fastening points like asphalt does. The combination of proven impact performance and potential insurance savings makes this a concrete financial advantage in any hail-prone region.
