Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Taylor Flats

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Taylor Flats, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Taylor Flats.

Will a metal roof hold up to Taylor Flats' freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly across freeze-thaw cycles, and the four-way interlocking panel system accommodates movement without cracking or splitting. Taylor Flats experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year on average, making material flexibility critical. Unlike slate, wood, or concrete tile—which fracture and degrade under repeated freezing—aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) simply cycles without permanent strain. The Alunar coating protects against oxidation during thaws, and the self-healing oxide layer keeps the underlying metal intact.

Can aluminum roofing rust in Washington's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath and heals automatically when scratched. Taylor Flats receives about 241 mm of rain annually, and winter moisture cycles are common at 13.3°C mean temperature. Steel roofs corrode in these conditions; aluminum grows more durable. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloys are proven in environments from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica—far harsher than inland Washington. The 30-year Alunar fluorocarbon coating on both panel sides adds insurance against any surface degradation.

How does a metal roof perform in Taylor Flats wind and gusts?

Four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec—well above Taylor Flats' typical gust peaks of 91 km/h (about 57 mph). The panel edges lock on all four sides, distributing uplift forces across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. Taylor Flats' average wind speeds are about 16 km/h, with occasional stronger gusts; the interlocking design means individual panels cannot lift, flip, or separate. The warranty covers wind damage to 120 mph, giving you certainty that this roof will stay in place through spring and autumn storm seasons.

What's the hail rating, and can I get an insurance discount?

Interlock metal roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 is the baseline for most homeowner insurance discounts on impact-rated roofs. While Taylor Flats averages mild hail risk (61 cm snow, 241 mm rain annually), severe hail can strike any region without warning. A Class 4 rating demonstrates to insurers that your roof will not leak or degrade from impact, which often qualifies you for premium reductions. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore available savings.

Do metal roofs reduce cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, reducing cooling demand on hot days. Select finishes (like Aged Copper Penny) achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. Taylor Flats averages 3,455 sunshine hours annually—plenty of exposure to solar gain, especially from April through September. Metal roofs reflect that absorbed heat before it enters your attic, whereas asphalt shingles convert sunlight into trapped heat. Over the roof's 50+ year life, this reflectivity compounds into measurable utility savings. energy-efficiency certification means your choice is independently verified for thermal performance.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily lightweight—the Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the Shake profile (about 0.58 lb/sq ft) weighs far less than traditional materials. Most existing roof structures in Taylor Flats can support this load without modification, and the panels install directly over most existing asphalt roofs, saving removal costs. By comparison, genuine slate or clay tile requires structural upgrades. Metal roofing eliminates that expense entirely while matching the visual depth of those premium materials.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over asphalt?

Metal roofing is the last roof you buy; asphalt is a recurring expense. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off and landfill disposal, repeating every 15–20 years. An Interlock metal roof lasts 50+ years with a non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner, then a transferable 50-year term for the next owner. Over 70 years, you replace asphalt 3–5 times; metal once. Taylor Flats' 69 annual freeze-thaw days and 91 km/h gusts accelerate asphalt degradation. Factor in removal labor, disposal fees, and two to three re-roofing projects, and metal's higher initial cost becomes a savings over the roof's true life. Current regional promotion: zero payments and zero interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.

What maintenance does a metal roof require?

A solid metal roof requires minimal maintenance—primarily clearing leaves and debris from gutters twice yearly, just as you would with asphalt. Unlike wood shake (which splits and rots), slate (which cracks in freeze-thaw), or traditional tile (which breaks and leaks), aluminum panels do not deteriorate with weather. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) is self-protecting; no resealing or repainting is needed. Taylor Flats' typical 16 km/h winds and 241 mm annual rain will not degrade the roof surface. The interlocking design prevents water intrusion, eliminating the common maintenance cycle of asphalt granule loss, lichen growth, and shingle curling.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Taylor Flats?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served this region since 1997 and is your local, authorized installer. The company understands Taylor Flats' climate—69 freeze-thaw days, 61 cm snow, and wind gusts to 91 km/h—and installs every roof to ICC-ES ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, reissued 2025) and Interlock's specifications. Local installation means faster scheduling, ongoing service support, and a partner who knows the region's weather patterns and building codes. Whether you choose Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, or Mediterranean Tile profiles, your installer has the expertise and local presence to ensure your roof performs for decades.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, eliminating the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that repeats every 15–20 years. Over 70 years, a typical home generates multiple tons of asphalt waste; a metal roof generates zero. Interlock has manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), certified as CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and lower environmental impact. The roof's 50+ year lifespan means fewer manufacturing cycles and fewer resource inputs over time. Choosing metal breaks the asphalt replacement cycle and supports circular aluminum recycling—a measurable environmental benefit that compounds across the life of your home.
