Review: May 1, 2020Completion: March 13, 2020

Preventing phone tag by having the office staff leave more detailed project status messages rather than just "call me back" would have been very helpful. While our project was understandably delayed due to weather and material availability, it was difficult for us to get updates and specific information on what was happening. That made scheduling the plumbers and solar installers much more difficult for us. We were pleased that the installation crew was able to install the aluminum roofing materials in a manner allowing us to keep our gutter helmets on the eavestroughs. The crew was also helpful in assisting and coordinating with the relocation of the plumbing vent stack by the plumber so that additional solar panels could be installed.

My only concern is getting repeated phone calls regarding surveys.

We are extremely grateful for the reimbursement and cancellation of our roof however I deeply regret having to do this as the peace of mind from an Interlock Roof would have been wonderful! We are facing an uncertain time headband that money is critical now to be able to remain in our home, again we are most appreciative. God bless you and your business...

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Basco

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Basco, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Basco.

How does a metal roof handle Basco's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, reducing ice dam formation during Basco's approximately 84 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels create a continuous, rigid deck that won't flex or crack under snow load the way aged asphalt does. With about 89 cm of snow annually and typical winter gusts to 104 km/h, the lightweight aluminum (Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) actually reduces structural stress while the standing-seam and shake profiles channel meltwater safely away. The material itself—roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum—becomes more resilient in cold, not brittle.

Why can't an aluminum roof rust, and does that matter in Wisconsin winters?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects against corrosion even when scratched. In Basco's climate—with 781 mm of rain and temperature swings across 84 freeze-thaw days annually—this is critical: steel roofs oxidize, degrade, and leak; aluminum stays structurally sound for decades. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (both sides, 30-year warranty) adds a second shield against moisture and salt-carrying air. You're not fighting rust repairs every few years; you're installing a roof that won't corrode no matter how many wet-freeze cycles it endures.

Can my existing roof structure handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without additional framing. Even accounting for Basco's annual snow load of roughly 89 cm, the exceptionally light aluminum distributes weight far more evenly than traditional materials. This means lower installation costs, faster completion, and the option to retrofit without costly structural work. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms these panels meet current building code requirements for residential and commercial loads in Wisconsin's climate zone.

How long does an Interlock metal roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty covers the original homeowner for life and transfers once to the next owner for up to 50 years from completion—non-prorated for material defects including rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and loss of impact resistance. That durability matters in Basco, where you experience about 3089 hours of sun annually plus moisture cycling: the Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured). Unlike asphalt shingles requiring replacement every 15–20 years, you're buying your last roof. The combination of aluminum's corrosion resistance and the transferable warranty gives you peace of mind and real resale value.

Will a metal roof blow off in Wisconsin wind storms?

No. The panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, far exceeding Basco's typical gusts of 104 km/h. The four-way interlocking design creates a mechanical bond—each panel locks to its neighbors on all sides—so wind pressure doesn't separate them. The system was tested and rated by Intertek (listing 33876) and ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 to handle Wisconsin's seasonal storm conditions. You get both the structural security of a mechanically fastened, continuous deck and the peace of mind that comes with a design engineered for severe weather, not just sunny-day aesthetics.

What's the hail rating, and will my insurance company care?

Interlock panels hold a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This matters because Class 4 ratings often qualify for insurance discounts in hail-prone regions. While Basco's climate data doesn't show extreme hail frequency, the proven impact resistance (verified through rigorous UL testing) gives insurers confidence in the roof's durability. Unlike asphalt or standard metal roofs that dent or tear, Interlock's aluminum construction and design simply don't fail under hail impact. Contact your agent to see what premium reductions you might unlock.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Virtually none. Aluminum doesn't split, curl, or rot the way asphalt shingles do after 781 mm of annual rain and repeated freeze-thaw cycles. There's no wood underlayment to decay, no granules to lose, no moss or algae prone to Wisconsin's damp season. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating resists weathering for 30 years, and the solid deck sheds debris and water automatically. You may rinse gutters or clear leaves, but you won't patch leaks, replace missing shingles, or hire roofers for repairs every few years. This CALGreen-verified reduction in maintenance work translates directly to lower long-term ownership costs and fewer service calls over the roof's life.

Do reflective metal roofing colors really lower cooling costs?

Yes, measurably. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—meaning they bounce heat that dark asphalt absorbs. In Basco, with about 3089 sunshine hours annually, this reflectivity reduces attic temperature and cuts air-conditioning load during summer months. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the performance. While Wisconsin winters are cold, the reflective benefit doesn't hurt heating (proper insulation and air sealing are primary); in shoulder seasons and on sunny winter days, you gain free cooling and lower utility bills. It's a quiet advantage that compounds over decades.

Is a metal roof fire-safe, and can I get a Class A rating?

Aluminum is non-combustible—it won't burn, emit smoke, or spread flame. Interlock offers Class A fire classification, the highest available, and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for residential and commercial buildings under current IBC/IRC standards. This matters not only for safety but also for insurance eligibility and property value. In Wisconsin's forested areas around Basco, Class A rating may qualify you for discounts. The non-combustible rating is an inherent property of aluminum, verified independently; you're not relying on coatings or additives that degrade over time like asphalt.

Who installs Interlock roofing in and around Basco, Wisconsin?

Interlock Metal Roofing, the manufacturer's authorized installer, has served the region since 2001 and knows Dane County's climate—its snow loads, wind events, and seasonal moisture cycles—intimately. The team understands how to install the five profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile) over existing roofs and to specification so your warranty's full 120 mph wind rating and hail coverage are valid. Local installers navigate permitting, coordinate with inspectors familiar with metal roofing, and stand behind their work. You're not hiring a distant contractor; you're working with someone who will service your roof for years to come and understands why Basco's 89 cm of snow and 104 km/h gusts demand precision installation.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Basco’s climate?

Yes. Basco averages about 89 cm of snow, 781 mm of rain, roughly 84 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 104 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
