I love the roof! It looks great, and the squirrels that we’re crawling all over my old asphalt roof slide right off it. The snow slides off, too. I hope to get some $500 referrals. The crew was terrific, hardworking, courteous, polite, and clean.

25 years of saving money in a C.D. has well paid off for me. I endeavored to save money for a high-quality roof; not wanting to pay for a substandard roofing system. I no longer wanted to have asphalt shingles. Interlock Roofing is the Crème de La of all roofing. One day in June of 2014, I took one of my long walks. I came to a perfect standstill gazing up at the roof of a home I had often passed. It had a new hairdo. This elegant and beautiful roof (dark gray " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate) certainly wasn’t asphalt shingles. What could it be? I decided to find out and knocked on the side door. I said to the man who came to the door, “where did you ever get such beautiful roofing?” He then explained that he was thrilled with his recent purchase of Interlock Roofing that was installed in early spring. He immediately told me that it was a “lifetime” roof that was not only very energy efficient but was constructed as a high-impact roof which could better handle nasty storms. He explained to me that I could get rid of my roofing heat tapes because there would be no more ice damming that I would have to be concerned about. Then he added with a twinkle in his eye that I could watch my neighbors struggle with raking snow off their roofs and know that I would never have to stand out in the cold doing this task. With great pride, he told me that Interlock Roofing would look as great as it does today as it would many years down the road because the color never fades. I said, “Who do I contact to get this kind of roof?” He gave me “Greg Weber’s telephone number. He also told me of another home in the area that has had the roof on for 7 years that I could go look at. I got in my car the next day and went over to that home and spoke to the owner, and asked him if he was satisfied with the roof. He answered, “I’m 100% plus satisfied!” WOW! That’s as good as it gets. The rest is history because I made an appointment to see Greg Weber. This week of August 18-20 installers came and installed my new roof on both the house and the garage. These men were by far the best men you could get. Would you like to know why? It’s because of their work ethics. They were polite, accommodating, and extremely hard-working. It was evident that they certainly knew what they were doing every step of the way. When they were finished the end product of their job was both elegant and beautiful! I hope people will take time to consider getting Interlock Roofing, which in my opinion is the best choice they could make if they desire to have a quality roof. Also, I appreciate buying from a company that takes so much pride in what they are doing. Interlock Roofing Speaks for itself when you see it.

Drip, drip, drip. This is not a sound you want to hear at 3:30 am… in bed… coming from your attic… in the dead of winter. A quick peek in the attic confirmed my worst fears, the ice dam on the roof was allowing melted water to seep through the crappy asphalt shingles and into the house. We called a local contractor and had the ice dam removed, but this didn’t fix the underlying problem that our current roof was cheap and damaged. My wife and I moved into a beautiful three-story brick Tudor on Madison’s near west side in the fall of 06′. It was perfect in that it had been beautifully remodeled with gorgeous woodwork, marble, and stunning attention to detail, with the exception of the roof. We had decided that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, this was the house we were going to stay in until retirement, so why not invest in a metal roof. After a couple of weeks of research and interviewing, we settled on Interlock. Part of the choice was made on the quality of the product, and part was made on the salesmanship of the rep, Chuck. Work started and except for some problems with the weather, things progressed smoothly. We were especially impressed with the steps the crew took in regard to safety, and our stay-at-home neighbor told us about how exciting the crew was, “you’re definitely getting your money's worth,” was her exact quote. At the end of the job, the crew even emptied all the trash we had pulled out of the attic for us. Now that’s service! After everything is said and done, we’ve been able to cap off our gorgeous house with an equally gorgeous roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Fitchburg

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Fitchburg.

How does a metal roof handle Fitchburg's snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth surface and tight seams prevent water from pooling. Fitchburg receives about 89 cm of snow annually across roughly 84 freeze-thaw days, which creates the exact conditions where expansion and contraction damage asphalt or wood—but aluminum's oxide layer doesn't crack or degrade through these cycles. The panel system resists ice damming and can be fitted with snow guards if you want to control shedding onto walkways.

Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing in Wisconsin winters?

Aluminum physically cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—a property that matters in Fitchburg's 781 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw environment. Steel rusts because iron oxidizes into expanding, flaking compounds; aluminum's oxide is stable and invisible. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both panel sides adds 30-year durability against chalking, giving you a second layer of protection during 20+ km/h winds with gusts to 104 km/h that can expose uncoated edges.

Does an aluminum metal roof survive Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum thrives through freeze-thaw because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splitting, or losing structural integrity. Fitchburg experiences about 84 freeze-thaw days per year, which tears apart asphalt (it becomes brittle), concrete tile (it spalls), and wood shakes (they split). Aluminum's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy is engineered for exactly this stress. The four-way interlocking system accommodates panel movement, so your roof stays watertight through decades of winter-to-spring cycling without the maintenance costs asphalt requires.

Can a metal roof withstand Fitchburg's wind gusts without damage?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Fitchburg's typical gusts of 104 km/h (about 65 mph) are well within that safety margin. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. This design means your roof won't loosen, rattle, or lift during the 20 km/h average winds common in Dane County. Installation to spec and proper fastening ensure the warranty applies—something a contractor will confirm before work begins.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years?

Over a 50-year ownership window, aluminum typically costs less per year than the asphalt cycle—you buy it once and own it. An asphalt roof in Fitchburg's 3089 sunshine hours and wet climate lasts 12–18 years before the constant rainfall (781 mm/year), freeze-thaw stress (84 days/year), and UV exposure degrade the binder. You'll replace it 3–4 times; labor, hauling, and material add up fast. Aluminum's lifetime limited warranty and transferable 50-year coverage for the next owner protect your investment while eliminating tear-off waste. Buyers recognize that durability, which supports resale value.

Can a metal roof reduce hail damage claims in Wisconsin?

Interlock panels earn UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof withstands impact energy comparable to hail up to 50 mm diameter, which is rare even in severe storms. Some insurers offer modest discounts for Class 4 roofs because claims are extremely unlikely. In Fitchburg's climate (roughly 3089 sunshine hours, 781 mm rain, 89 cm snow), hail is less frequent than in the Plains, but large hail can still occur—and when it does, an aluminum roof simply absorbs the strike without puncturing, denting visibly, or needing repair.

What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof actually need in Fitchburg?

Almost none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, curl, or lose granules in Fitchburg's heavy rainfall (781 mm/year) and freeze-thaw environment. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalk—it doesn't degrade from UV exposure (the roof sees about 3089 sunshine hours annually). Occasional gutter cleaning and inspection after severe wind gusts (up to 104 km/h) are standard roof care for any system. That's it. No moss treatment, no replaced shingles, no sealant reapplication—savings that compound over decades.

Can my house frame support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?

No reinforcement needed. Interlock aluminum panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle profile) and the Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, which means your existing frame easily carries the load. Most homes can install Interlock over the current roof—wood shingles, asphalt, even some older materials—without adding support. A structural engineer or your installer will confirm during inspection, but the light weight is a genuine advantage in Fitchburg's freeze-thaw cycles (84 days/year), where heavy materials expand and contract and can stress weak connections. Aluminum's minimal mass reduces stress on fasteners and flashing.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my old roof?

Installation typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity; the exact timeline comes from your installer's quote. Yes, Interlock installs over most existing roofs—asphalt, wood, or metal—because the panels are so light (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) that structural reinforcement is rarely needed. The existing roof becomes the substrate, saving landfill waste and labor costs. A solid deck and proper underlayment (installed to code per ESR-1790) ensure the roof is watertight and sound-dampened. Your local Interlock installer, operating in this region since 2001, will assess your roof during the free estimate and explain whether a tear-off or overlay makes sense for your specific home.

Does a metal roof offer better fire protection than asphalt or wood shakes?

Aluminum is non-combustible and Interlock panels are available with Class A fire rating, the highest classification. This matters in Fitchburg and Dane County where wind gusts reach 104 km/h and can carry embers from distant fires. Asphalt shingles are combustible and will ignite if exposed to flame; wood shakes burn readily. Aluminum panels won't ignite, won't release toxic smoke, and won't contribute fuel to a spreading fire. If fire safety is a concern—or if your insurance or HOA requires Class A—Interlock can supply the rated product. The non-combustibility also means your roof meets modern fire codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790) with no special maintenance or inspection.
