Review: December 8, 2014Completion: October 24, 2014

We were told that the rain gards could be put back on and they were NOT. I called and complained and no one called us back. Yard had some small pieces of waste in it. I got a nail in my tire, and had to have it repaired. I do like the roof BUT feel like after the money was paid to this company that I was pushed to the side. No one has tried to work out anything with us. I feel the price of the roof was a lot of money and for that price we should be taken care of. Were not happy with the end result. Yvonne.

With appropriate cautions. Remove some of the layers to make the product more cost attractive. If you are promoting quality and a service then reasonably prompt return phone calls or follow-up by Sales or installers would be due. I became aware of the product from a visit to Canada a number of years ago. I had faith in the product from the brochures alone and planned and stretched for my first re-roofing to be the Interlock product. I was pleased that it was available in the US, and only disappointed by Midwest customer service. Can't rave about the experience, especially where Interlock is 141% more that the most outrageous competitive quote.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Somers Ridge

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Somers Ridge, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Somers Ridge.

How does a metal roof handle Somers Ridge's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice more efficiently than asphalt, reducing ice dam buildup during the region's typical 80 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels prevent water infiltration even when snow melts repeatedly. At about 120 cm of annual snowfall, your roof needs to manage both weight and thermal cycling. Interlock's Slate and Shake profiles are designed with these dynamics in mind, and the material's Class 4 hail rating (UL 2218) also ensures durability through the heavy precipitation cycles common to Kenosha County's 835 mm annual rainfall.

Why won't my metal roof rust like steel roofing might?

Interlock panels are manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains no iron—the element required for rust formation. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that repairs itself when scratched or exposed. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, providing an extra moisture barrier in humid climates. With Somers Ridge averaging 835 mm of rain annually and frequent freeze-thaw transitions, this dual-layer protection ensures your roof won't corrode over decades the way steel would, backed by the Guardian warranty's non-prorated coverage against rusting.

Is a metal roof really cheaper than replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years?

Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing typically costs less per year than the serial replacement cycle of asphalt. You'll install Interlock once and own it for life; asphalt requires tear-off and reinstallation every 1.5–2 decades, multiplying labor, disposal, and material costs. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner—a single investment that outlasts 2–3 asphalt roofs. Given Somers Ridge's 3,094 annual sunshine hours and 80 freeze-thaw days, which accelerate asphalt degradation, aluminum's durability under these local conditions justifies the upfront premium.

Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles install at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, while the Mediterranean Tile is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile despite replicating its appearance. Most homes can support metal roofing without structural reinforcement. You can often install directly over your existing roof, eliminating costly tear-off and disposal fees. This lightweight advantage is particularly valuable in Wisconsin's climate, where accumulated snow loads are a concern; the reduced dead load means less structural stress during the approximately 120 cm of annual snowfall typical of Somers Ridge.

Is a metal roof fire-resistant, and could it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock aluminum panels achieve Class A fire classification and are non-combustible—the highest fire protection available. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC code compliance) confirms this rating. Because metal cannot ignite or spread flame, many insurers offer premium discounts that can partially offset the material cost. Your homeowner's policy may recognize the combined benefit of non-combustibility plus the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, which covers impact damage from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In Kenosha County, where wind gusts reach about 99 km/h and weather is variable, this resilience is both a safety and financial asset.

Will my metal roof stay in place during Wisconsin's high wind gusts?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Somers Ridge experiences typical daily winds around 20 km/h with gusts averaging about 99 km/h, well within the roof's rated capacity. The interlocking design distributes wind load across the entire panel network, preventing the edge lifting and blow-off that can affect single-fastened roofs. This engineering also explains why Interlock has been installed from coastal environments with severe salt-air exposure to an Antarctic research station—both extreme-weather applications demand reliable wind performance.

Can a metal roof actually reduce my summer cooling costs?

Yes. Interlock offers energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance as high as 0.55 (measured in Aged Copper Penny), rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. These finishes reflect heat that asphalt shingles absorb, reducing attic and indoor temperatures during warm periods. With Somers Ridge averaging about 3,094 hours of sunshine annually, your roof spends significant time reflecting rather than trapping solar energy. The 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured) ensures the reflective properties don't fade, maintaining energy efficiency throughout the warranty period.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation timelines depend on roof complexity and weather, but metal roofing generally installs faster than asphalt because panels cover larger areas per fastening point. One of Interlock's key advantages is weight; at about 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, the lightweight design allows installation directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement or costly tear-off. This saves weeks of work and eliminates disposal fees for old materials. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing, has served the region since 2001 and can assess your specific structure and provide a timeline.

What's covered by the warranty, and how long does it really last?

The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next homeowner 50 years from completion—an unusual benefit that extends value beyond a single generation. The coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. This combination reflects aluminum's inherent durability in Wisconsin's 80 annual freeze-thaw days; the material doesn't deteriorate the way wood or asphalt does, so the warranty simply acknowledges that reality rather than imposing arbitrary time limits.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes, significantly. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills after each 15–20 year replacement cycle. Over a 50-year period, a home with asphalt experiences multiple tear-offs and disposal events; metal roofing breaks that cycle with a single installation. Aluminum manufacturing has matured since Interlock's founding in 1998, and recycled aluminum requires far less energy than virgin production. By choosing a roof that lasts a lifetime, you eliminate the landfill waste, transportation emissions, and repeated labor associated with serial asphalt replacement—a measurable environmental difference over Somers Ridge's typical home lifespan.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Somers Ridge’s climate?

Yes. Somers Ridge averages about 82 cm of snow, 835 mm of rain, roughly 80 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 99 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
