Sandy, OR Metal Roofing Review — Secure, Aesthetic Installation (2006)
Review: May 15, 2019 Completion: February 27, 2006The company was very informative and efficient, and we are happy with both the aesthetic and practical results. We are also happy to have a greater sense of security about the danger posed by fire, which has been a worry because we live in a forested area far from emergency services. The workers were polite and professional and cleaned up the site pretty well. It was expensive, but we're very satisfied with the work.

Metal Tiles Sandy, OR Review 🇺🇸 — February 26, 2019 | Interlock®
Review: February 26, 2019 Completion: January 22, 2019Communication. Setting realistic expectations. Following through on commitments. Overall integrity. Original schedule was an August installation. Old roof was taken off in October and install was not complete until late December. Communications regarding schedule and delays were non-existent and each time I initiated contact and was given new estimated dates the dates were not honored and contact wasn't made.

Metal Shingles Sandy, OR Review 🇺🇸 — November 13, 2018 | Interlock®
Review: November 13, 2018 Completion: October 17, 2018Communications. Roland would argue with me as far as the way the roof looked. I feel he should not be talking to homeowners. Especially if they feel that something is not right. Things that he stated were fine Ivan fixed. I am just very upset that we were offered nothing as far as a discount. Just frustrating. I just hope parts of the roof don't come off when the high winds start. Didn't even get an apology in any form.

Sandy metal roofing FAQ
Will a metal roof handle Sandy's snow and ice buildup?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice reliably, even under Sandy's typical 48 cm annual snowfall and 36 freeze-thaw days per year. The smooth aluminum surface resists ice adhesion far better than asphalt shingles, which trap moisture in freeze-thaw cycles. The lightweight design—about 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—means no structural reinforcement is needed, and panels won't sag under accumulated snow. Snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled roof clearing.
How does metal roofing perform in Sandy's heavy rainfall?
Interlock panels are engineered to handle Sandy's 1,468 mm of annual rain without leaks when installed to code. The interlocking design creates four-point fastening that channels water downward before it can seep between panels. Installation over solid decking with underlayment—standard practice—provides the same leak protection as asphalt, with one difference: aluminum won't rot or absorb moisture like shingles do over a 20+ year span. The system has been field-tested from coastal BC to Antarctic stations in far harsher conditions.
Are Interlock panels strong enough for Sandy's wind gusts?
They exceed Sandy's needs. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—far beyond Sandy's typical gusts around 116 km/h (72 mph). The four-way interlocking design prevents uplift and panel separation, which is why the system meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 for IBC/IRC wind and impact requirements. In the Willamette Valley's occasional severe storms, this redundant connection method performs where single-fastened asphalt often fails.
Can I get insurance credits for Interlock's hail rating?
Interlock aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 impact resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts on comprehensive coverage. If you live in a hail-prone area within Clackamas County or have been denied claims on asphalt shingles before, the documented non-combustible aluminum construction (Class A fire-rated) and impact rating can shift insurer cost-benefit calculations in your favor.
Why choose aluminum over steel metal roofing?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Steel requires paint or coatings to survive; when those fail, rust accelerates. Interlock's 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal even if scratched during installation or by branches. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of the panel, adding 30-year warranty protection against chalking and fading. Over a 50-year lifespan in Sandy's 1,468 mm annual rain and freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum's corrosion resistance is a tangible cost advantage—no replacement, no repairs.
Will an Interlock metal roof lower my heating or cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt shingles do, reducing cooling loads in warmer months. Thermal emissivity reaches 0.84 with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 on Aged Copper Penny finishes. In Sandy's climate—averaging 2,957 sunshine hours per year—this reflective quality reduces the heat gain that drives summer air conditioning and moderates attic temperatures year-round. Winter benefits are modest because heating season dominates, but the summer savings compound over decades, and Cool Roof Rating Council verification means the performance is independently tested, not marketing claims.
What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and is it transferable?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That means if you install now and sell in 10 years, the buyer gets 40 years of coverage. If they sell again within that 50-year window, the warranty term continues from the original completion date. No other roofing system pairs genuine lifetime protection for you with a 50-year safety net for the next owner.
Is a metal roof more cost-effective than asphalt shingles over time?
Yes, when measured over the roof's actual lifespan. Asphalt shingles typically last 15-20 years in Sandy's 1,468 mm rainfall and 36 freeze-thaw days per year—meaning two to three replacements over 50 years, plus repeated tear-off costs and labor. Interlock aluminum lasts 50+ years and requires almost no maintenance. The lifetime non-prorated material warranty and 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 tested) mean no hidden failures or expensive surprises. Current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—lowering the upfront cost gap immediately. Over 40 years, one roof beats three.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, and the panels themselves contain recycled aluminum. Asphalt shingles—millions of tons per year in North America—end up in landfills and are rarely reclaimed. Because Interlock panels last 50+ years without replacement, you eliminate the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. At just ~0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle profile), the lightweight design also reduces transport emissions. The system is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and lifecycle environmental impact, making it the responsible choice for homeowners in Clackamas County who want their roof off the waste stream.
How long does an Interlock metal roof installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?
Installation typically takes 1-3 days for a standard residential roof, depending on size and complexity. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving the region since 1997, handles permitting and scheduling locally. One major advantage: the ultralight aluminum profiles—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile equivalents—can install directly over most existing asphalt shingle roofs without structural reinforcement. This avoids costly tear-off, reduces waste, and shortens the project timeline. The installer inspects the deck, adds underlayment and flashing, then fastens panels to code-compliant specifications for Sandy's wind and rainfall conditions.
