01 / The name
One roof.
Every American climate.
America’s Best Roof is Interlock®’s name for the Interlock® Lifetime Roofing System in the United States: interlocking aluminum and copper roofing, evaluated for U.S. building codes and installed by Interlock’s regional installation centers from Alaska to Florida.
The roofing itself is manufactured in Canada by Interlock Roofing Ltd., founded in Delta, British Columbia in 1998.
“Best” is a claim, so this page treats it like one: what we mean by it, the reports behind it, and the American installations and reviews you can use to judge it for yourself.
02 / The record
Count the roofs.
Read the reviews.
- 12,387Interlock® roofs installed in the United States
- 13states with completed installations
- 3,960published reviews from American homeowners
- 4.7 / 5average across those 3,960 reviews
Counts come from Interlock’s job records and published customer reviews as of this page’s last update — the same figures shown on Metal roofing in the United States and American reviews.
03 / The evidence
It’s a name.
Backed by reports.
No one ranks roofs nationally, and we do not suggest anyone has. The name rests on six documents and records you can read.
Evaluated for the IBC and IRC
ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-1790 covers fire classification, wind-uplift resistance and weather resistance for Interlock’s shingle, shake and tile profiles.
Approved for Florida
Florida Product Approval FL7263-R7 under the Florida Building Code, with wind uplift evaluated to UL 580, TAS 125 and UL 1897.
Class 4 against hail
Class 4 is the top of the four classes in the UL 2218 impact test. The page explains the test and holds the documentation.
Chosen for Antarctica
Interlock was selected for the U.S. National Science Foundation’s South Pole Overland Traverse modules — Standing Seam as the roofing and Diamond shingles as the siding.
A cool roof that cannot rust
Aluminum contains no iron, and Interlock’s Alunar®-coated colors are listed in the Cool Roof Rating Council directory.
A written manufacturer warranty
The Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty comes from the manufacturer, is not prorated, and can pass one time to the next owner of the house.
What the name does not mean: that an Interlock roof is the right call for every home or budget. The Best Roof guide compares ten roofing materials, including where asphalt shingles, steel or natural slate are the better fit.

An Interlock® roof is a four-way interlocking system — each shingle or panel locks to the ones around it on all four sides. You choose the look: five profiles in heavy-gauge aluminum, or solid copper. See the full collection, or compare metal shingles and aluminum shingles as a category.

What Americans
tell us.
Our new Interlock Roof is beautiful. And our neighbors have noticed. The whole process was very professional from beginning to finish. Victor, Daniel and Patrick were incredibly efficient, courteous, knowledgeable, and hard-working. Would recommend highly.
I had a fantastic experience with Interlock Metal Roofing! Their team was incredibly easy to work with and very responsive to all of my questions throughout the entire process. I want to give a special shout-out to our installers, Victor and Daniel. They were extremely professional, friendly, and…
They were very fast and had the old roof off and the new roof on within a day. They were very courteous and professional. I am actually quite impressed with it all.
This has been one of our best investments ever. It wasn’t perfect when they finished but the after installation follow up has been. Navir always has been very professional, friendly and polite. I always have tried to tip him, he never accepts it but is grateful for the offer. I highly recommend this…
Technician went above and beyond. He had to resecure my gutter before fixing my damaged shingles. The repair looks like they had never been damaged. Super nice gentlemen. So glad I purchased my roof through Interlock back in 2004!
How these were chosen: the most recent published review from each state, then the next most recent, limited to reviews rated four stars or higher that include a written comment. Nothing has been edited except for length. Every published review, including critical ones, is on American metal roofing reviews; how reviews are collected is set out in the customer review policy.
08 / The weather
What does your roof
have to survive?
It depends where the house is. Pick your part of the country.
Hurricane coasts
The Florida Building Code sets some of the most demanding wind requirements in the country, so the Florida approval is a useful reference well beyond Florida.
Florida Product Approval FL7263-R7Hail country
From Texas through the Plains and the Upper Midwest, large hail is a regular event. Interlock carries UL 2218 Class 4.
Hail-resistant roofingWildfire in the West
Aluminum does not burn, and Interlock can be specified as a Class A fire-rated assembly — ask your representative for that configuration.
Fire-resistant roofing and WUI codesThe snow belt
In New England, the Great Lakes and Alaska, interlocking aluminum sheds snow and handles freeze–thaw without cracking or curling.
Winterlock cold-weather roofingSalt air
On the Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf coasts, steel roofing can rust as its coating ages. Aluminum cannot.

10 / Questions
Fair
questions.
Is “America’s Best Roof” an award or an independent ranking?
No. It is the name Interlock uses for its roofing system in the United States, not a prize. No independent body ranks residential roofs nationally. What sits behind the name is set out on this page and can be checked: ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, Florida Product Approval FL7263-R7, the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, the written manufacturer warranty, and the installation and review record in each state.
Is Interlock roofing made in the USA?
No. Interlock Roofing Ltd., founded in 1998, designs and manufactures its aluminum and copper roofing systems in Delta, British Columbia, Canada. In the United States the roofing is installed by Interlock’s regional installation centers.
Which states does Interlock serve?
Interlock has installation centers for Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas. Inquiries from outside those regions are referred to independent installers, who are not necessarily Interlock-certified. The installers page explains which center covers which area and how referrals work.
Does it meet U.S. building codes?
ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-1790 covers roof-covering fire classification, wind-uplift resistance and weather resistance under the International Building Code and International Residential Code for Interlock’s shingle, shake and tile profiles. For Florida, the system carries Florida Product Approval FL7263-R7 under the Florida Building Code. Both reports are published on this site; your local building department has the final say on any permit.
How does it hold up to hail and hurricanes?
The roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4, the highest class in that impact (hail) standard. Wind-uplift performance is documented in ESR-1790 and, for Florida, was evaluated to the UL 580, TAS 125 and UL 1897 test standards. The allowable loads for each profile are in the reports rather than in a single headline number.
What does the warranty actually cover?
It is a written material warranty from the manufacturer, Interlock Roofing Ltd., called the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty. Coverage is not prorated. It can be transferred one time, to the next registered owner, whose coverage then runs fifty years from the date the roof was originally completed. The warranty spells out what “lifetime” means and lists its exclusions, so read the warranty page before you sign anything.
How much does it cost?
An interlocking aluminum roof costs more up front than asphalt shingles, and the price depends on roof size, pitch, complexity and profile. This page does not quote figures. The metal roofing cost guide explains what drives the price and when a cheaper roof is the better decision, and a free quote gives you a firm number for your house.
