Top 10 Roofing FAQs for Lunenburg, Nova Scotia Homeowners
What’s the best roofing system for Lunenburg’s coastal climate?
Why is Interlock Metal Roofing better than asphalt shingles in Lunenburg?
Will aluminum roofing rust like steel?
No. Aluminum doesn’t rust, which is crucial in Lunenburg’s salt-rich air. Steel roofing systems—even galvanized or coated—can corrode over time. Interlock roofs are made from marine-grade aluminum and finished with a protective Alunar Coating designed specifically for longevity in Atlantic Canada’s coastal conditions.
How does Interlock compare to composite or synthetic slate roofing?
Is natural slate roofing a good idea in Lunenburg?
What about rubber roofing systems?
Can Interlock Metal Roofing handle Lunenburg’s wind and storms?
Is it energy-efficient enough for seasonal temperature changes?
Absolutely. Interlock roofs are coated with heat-reflective Alunar finishes that help reduce heat absorption in the summer while also providing excellent insulation support in winter. That means lower heating and cooling bills year-round, even in Lunenburg’s changing seasons.
Will a metal roof look good on my historic Lunenburg home?
Yes. Interlock offers profiles that mimic traditional slate, cedar shake, and tile, so you don’t have to sacrifice style for strength. Homes in Lunenburg’s historic district can benefit from the classic look of slate or shake, with none of the constant maintenance or structural reinforcement needed by heavier materials.
Why is Interlock the best long-term roofing investment for Lunenburg?
Looking for a product without exposed fasteners and one that could handle the high winds
We own a property close to salt water, so we were looking for a product without exposed fasteners and one that could handle the high winds. We had a couple of companies bid on the job and decided to go with Maritime Permanent Roofing.
The estimator (Greg) was very personable and explained the entire process from start to finish. The installers were very professional and hard-working. We are pleased with their job and happy with the look of the new roof—lots of compliments from family and friends.

Original from 2012 looks identical to the new one. Both look like they are brand new… Could not be happier with this company.

The roof looks great and enhances the appearance of the house
To Whom It May Concern:
We met Ted Rector at the Truro Home Show in 2009. We were in the market for a new roof. On our other homes, we had installed metal roofs and liked the thought of a final roof. Only we discovered that over the years the roofs faded or needed repainting. At our age, we wanted something that would last and be worry-free. After talking with Ted, we readily made an appointment with him to evaluate our situation. He willing spent an evening with us is our Debert home discussing the pros and cons of different roof materials. There was no rush to sign on the “dotted line”. After careful consideration, the Interlock Roof was a go.
The roof looks great and enhances the appearance of the house. The workmanship is good and reliable.
We know the house must be looking great because of the number of people stopping and copying the telephone number from the sign out front. Without hesitation, we have recommended Ted Rector and Maritime Permanent Roofing to inquirers and will continue to do so.
Sincerely,
Lester and Ruby McMaster

After careful consideration of the different roofing materials and styles available; we were convinced that the aluminum roof system offered by Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. (hereafter referred to as “Interlock”) was the best choice for us.
Four years ago we moved into a 30-year-old home, which has been in the family since it was built. We knew that the original cedar shakes would need replacing; they had served the homes’ inhabitants well but were nearing the end of their ‘life expectancy’. We are a young family and so price was an important factor; however, we also plan on remaining in this house for many years to come. We decided that the investment in a “lifetime roof” was worth it for us, and we also appreciated the fact that it was more environmentally friendly than an asphalt roof.
Our roof was installed over the course of ten days, only delayed a few days by two major snowstorms. The installation crew, led by James, was wonderful. They worked long and hard each day, they were considerate, conscientious, and personable; I would recommend James to anyone interested in an Interlock roof.
Likewise, we appreciated your willingness, Joe, to work with us throughout the process. Your consideration of our queries and concerns was noted and valued.
We are the first homeowners, on our bay of ten homes, to re-roof from the original shakes; the black slate design looks terrific…we will undoubtedly be fielding queries about your product and company!
With thanks,

Long term cost is less than another roof system
I wish to thank Interlock Industries, Inc. for a great roofing system. I’m 100% satisfied and it has a clean and beautiful look. It’s great! It’s wonderful to know the roof never need replacement again.
I also wish to thank Bob Allen, Jerry and Paul McAllister for being so helpful in completing the work.
I know this roof system was right when we met Bob Allen the first time, he explained everything in detail. Everything he said was correct.
The men who did the work were polite and respectiful, and were clean and neat in the work process. Thank you guys.
I would recommend an Interlock Roof for every home, or any building and the long term cost is less than another roof system.
Thank you Interlock Roofing,

Tired of curling and cracking old duroid roof shingles
To Whom It May Concern::
After considering many different roof styles and systems, I chose Interlock because I was tired of curling and cracking old duroid roof shingles. My problem was unique, in that, I was surrounded by large fir trees, which shed unlimited needles on my roof, not to mention moss problems. This product answered my concerns. Because of the smooth Teflon surface nothing sticks to it and I’m not concerned about the moss.
The true test of a good roof is the installer. Antonio was our roofer, I found him to be very professional and considerate of our time. He removed the old chimney and reinforced the hold in the roof like a professional contractor and did not compromise in any way.
The look of the roof and the quality of workmanship is what impressed me most.
Now I get all sorts of comments on my roof!
Thanks again, Interlock Roofing and Antonio!!!!!
Happy Customer,

We believed that selecting your company was without a doubt a winner in every respect
My wife and I wanted you to know that we are very pleased with the new Interlock shingle roof recently installed on our twenty year old home.
The color matches the rest of our home and the shingles look tremendous. While we knew we needed a new roof and we we looked at a number of different options and contractors, we believed that selecting your company was without a doubt a winner in every respect.
We became aware of your product through the website of the Metal Roofing Alliance that led us to your company’s own web page.
Subsequently, we met with Mr. Robert Allen, Regional Marketing Coordinator of New York’s Best Roof, Inc., who fully addressed all of our questions and was readily available throughout the process. Installation was also handled in a very professional manner, and we could not ask for better assistance from either Mr. Allen or the installation crew of New York’s Best Roof, Inc.
We look forward to many happy years under the security of our new aluminum shingle roof, and would gladly recommend your product and the team from New York’s Best Roof, Inc. to anyone. We are also very pleased with the energy savings, maintenance free characteristics and environmentally friendly aspects of our new aluminum roof.
Sincerely,

Dear Interlock Management,
As promised I am writing you a follow up letter sharing our experience regarding the purchase and installation of our new Interlock Roof.
Long before we received your introductory mailing my wife and I had already had our minds set on eventually installing an Interlock Roof. Our reasoning was simple. We only wanted to install one more roof in our lifetime, and we were very interested in the looks, durability and warranty of your product.
As an experienced service and installation manager myself, I am very familiar with the fact that many jobs have their surprises, and sometimes despite planning things go wrong. What really matters is how those instances are dealt with. As in our case, the first day the crew did not arrive until several hours later than expected due to issues back at the warehouse. The Customer Service Manager I believe, Miranda was very apologetic and did try to explain as well as got back to me with status on their expected arrival.
The late arrival was quickly put behind us as upon arrival your crew without walking around or discussion divided and began what was a dynamic, organized and efficient process of setting up and beginning installation like nothing we or our neighbors have ever seen. In just a few hours they had stripped two layers of roofing off the house and garage, did some repair work, papered the roof and had half the garage and the front half of the main roof complete.
On day two they completed the install and did an incredible job of cleaning up. This included every member of the crew walking my property to insure not one nail was left to step on, or cause tire damage. Our second surprise or problem was detected after their departure which was related to the fact that the back half of our roof had to be done in neoprene and the drip edge was not only different but was white instead of black causing our roof to look incomplete. I believe we both learned something that day. Your company for the future will be able to point this out up front and offer to paint the the edging in advance of the installation. In our case you had a man here the next day and he painted the drip edge to match the front half of the house and shingles. We also had two separate follow up visits from your quality control people to inspect the job for proper install and completion.
In summary we are very pleased with our roof and the diligence of your hard working, professional crew.
We without a doubt have the best looking roof in the neighborhood, bar none.
Sincerely,
Dave Marr

According to our tax expert, metal roofs are tax-deductible!
To: Interlock / New York’s Best Roof
My husband and I wanted to write to you to let you know how pleased we are with our entire experience working with Interlock. We now have a beautiful new roof and the process was totally professional and first rate.
We first learned about Interlock from information received in the mail. However Mr. Robert Allen, our sales coordinator, gave a very thorough, knowledgeable presentation of the roofing product, answering our questions, showing samples and leaving us with written materials we could look over at our leisure. Mr. Allen was always a phone call away to answer our questions, returning our calls if not the same day certainly with a 24-hour period.
Once we decided to purchase an Interlock roof, the time frame spelled out in the contract was adhered to. Financing was available and Mr. Patrick Doyle worked very diligently to get us the best rate of interest available to us. Whatever concerns we had were addressed and the paperwork was simple and straightforward.
The installment crew was professional, courteous and hardworking. Our roof was done in 2 1/2 days and clean-up was always done at the end of each day. The crew always spoke with my husband in a polite, unobtrusive manner and did whatever it took to make the installation as easy as possible.
Now not only do we have a great looking roof with a 50-year warranty, we also bought a great product. The roofing itself creates minimal waste and is recyclable. It reflects the sun in the summer so our air conditioning works more efficiently. In the winter we no longer have to snow rake the roof, the snow melts off automatically. Our house now seems quieter, even our 14 year old son remarked he didn’t know it was raining until the rain hit the windows. Our new roof gives our house a more finished look and according to our tax expert, metal roofs are tax-deductible!
My husband and I can not only say enough positive things about interlock. We would highly recommend their product and company to anyone considering a new roof. Drive by and see the finished product!
Sincerely,
Claudia and Ray Bounds

To whom it may concern:
We were very pleased with the professionalism of Rod and Richard Clark, our roofing crew.
Rod could foresee possible problems, articulate and resolve them much to our delight; i.e. the possible need for snow guards regarding climate change. They made an extra effort with the detail work. Rod is very knowledgeable, hard working and polite.
We highly recommend them.
