I would NEVER recommend them I wrote this email to them in November Todd, I am not impressed with Interlock and would not recommend your company to anyone. I will also be writing to BBB and Homeowners’ Guild with my review. I have done several renovations, this has been the worst experience. I understand you have had difficulty finding and retaining skilled labour, this is your problem not mine. I had chosen your company over local bidders, which were all less expensive, because I was led to believe the Interlock product was superior, your installers were skilled and reliable, and that the company stood 100% behind its commitment to provide and install the best product. The contract was signed on April 28, 2018, with a commitment the work would commence within 6-8 weeks and the work itself would take two weeks to complete (according to Dimitri). This must have been an outright lie. I contacted you in mid-July (10 weeks after the contract was signed) and was told the work would commence in early August, then I was told mid-August, late August, mid-September. Finally your crew arrived late September, removed the old roof and covered it with protective wrap. Then they left and the rains came. I was told the roofing material was not ready so the crew left. Since then the job has lingered, with intermittent spurts, it is now late November and the job is unfinished. I had lined up a contractor to renovate my front entry stairway, I had to cancel that contract to meet your August schedule as the jobs could not coincide. I lost this contractor, it caused him a signifant financial set back. I have also had to defer gutter cleaning and yard fall cleanup—I have had to postpone scheduled dates several times. Things have been broken, with lack of care and attention (hummingbird feeder and ornamental owl).I have concerns about the quality of the work: lines are not straight, edges are not even, capping is not level, gutters have been dented and scratched where ladders have been placed. This roof project has been beyond inconvenient. I have a family renting my suite, they have been very reasonable and have not complained about the mess and disruption for two months. The bin finally was removed last week but the area is littered with sharp pieces of metal. Tools and metal fly off the roof, metal sheeting left perilously leaning on the upper deck, and there’s garbage laying around.

Review: March 13, 2019 Completion: February 11, 2019

Wait for it not to snow so it wasn't so messy. Advise cluets to change trim/fascia before roof is on so the overhang dies not need to be bent back. Still disappointed about being advised NOT to change fascia by consultant after specifically asking. Now installation complete and metal overhang interferringwith with all fasteners that will have to be removed and installed on new one. The roof will become damaged in the process, and the metal will get bent. Very disappointed, too expensive for this type of oversight.

This was a difficult job, during very difficult times. The team faced off against one of the worst of our west coast wet winters on record and delivered a beautiful result safely. This would normally be a good result any day but imagine that the entire team also had to deal with all aspects of the COVID-19 virus. This included a number of challenges that made completing any project difficult, from manufacturing all the way through to unforeseen impacts on supply chains and tight logistics and movement for travelling installation crews. On budget, on time, wonderful looking results. Project management and communications. We were completely caught off guard by certain early activities that happened without any warning. Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Davis Bay

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Davis Bay, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Davis Bay.

How does a metal roof handle Davis Bay's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum panels shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion. Davis Bay receives about 184 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 26 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that accelerate asphalt degradation and ice dam formation. The four-way interlocking design prevents water infiltration even when snow melts and refreezes. Snow guards are available if you want to control roof shedding, but the metal surface itself won't absorb freeze-thaw damage the way shingles do.

Will a metal roof rust on the Sunshine Coast with all the salt air and rain?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the metal's naturally occurring oxide layer actually self-heals when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against fading, provides additional barrier protection in coastal salt-air environments. Interlock has successfully installed roofs from seaside homes to an Antarctic research station, so the material itself is proven in extreme salt and moisture conditions. This non-rusting property eliminates the hidden corrosion risk that steel roofing carries.

Can heavy rainfall cause leaks in a metal roof?

No—the four-way interlocking panels are engineered to prevent water intrusion even during heavy downpours. Davis Bay averages 2202 mm of rain annually, and the overlapping, locked seams direct water downward and outward far more reliably than shingle seams. The interlocking geometry means water cannot migrate sideways or upward into the fastener zone. Installed over solid decking with proper underlayment, a metal roof handles intense rainfall without leak risk—in fact, many owners find it quieter than they expect because the solid deck and underlayment dampen sound just like asphalt.

Are metal roofs safe in Davis Bay's wind gusts?

Yes. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors in all directions, creating a unified system that resists uplift. Interlock's panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Davis Bay's typical gusts reach about 124 km/h, and the interlocking geometry means wind cannot peel or separate individual panels. The lightweight aluminum also reduces the bending stress on the structure itself, so high winds actually pose less structural risk than they do with heavy tile or slate.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

Almost never. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural upgrades are required on most homes. Even the Shake profile, at 0.58 lb/sq ft, is far lighter than the slate or tile it replicates. This extraordinary lightness means the panels can install directly over most existing roofs without adding load to rafters or trusses. Structural savings translate directly to installation cost savings and the ability to extend your roof's life without renovation expense.

Can hail damage a metal roof, and does that affect insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating, combined with the non-corrosive, impact-resistant aluminum, positions metal roofing favorably in underwriter eyes. Some insurers offer premium reductions for Class 4 metal roofs because they resist the damage that drives hail claims. While Davis Bay's climate data doesn't indicate frequent hail, the Class 4 protection provides comprehensive peace of mind for the 40-year lifespan of your roof.

What makes the Interlock warranty different, and how long will the roof actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner with 50 years of coverage from completion. Non-prorated means a claim in year 30 gets the same coverage as one in year 5. Because aluminum doesn't rot or rust and the 30-year Alunar coating resists weathering, real-world lifespans routinely exceed 50 years. This is the last roof you'll buy, and your home's next owner will inherit half a century of protection.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Over a 50-year horizon, aluminum metal roofing is the lower-cost option. Asphalt shingles require replacement every 15–20 years, meaning three to four tear-off-to-landfill cycles and the labor cost multiplied. Interlock metal roofing, warranted for life with a 50-year transferable term, eliminates replacement costs and the environmental cost of hauling worn-out asphalt away. Davis Bay's 2202 mm annual rainfall and 184 cm snow accelerate asphalt wear, so replacements happen sooner here than in dry climates. Current regional promotion includes interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499, which further narrows the upfront gap.

Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile?

Yes—Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, all in multiple colors. Each replicates the texture and shadow lines of its traditional counterpart while delivering aluminum's durability and lightweight strength. The Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles capture the warmth and grain of wood without splitting or rotting. The Tile profile replicates Mediterranean clay at 96% less weight. All profiles are available in colors rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council, so you can match your architectural vision while gaining energy efficiency—a tangible advantage in a region with 2931 annual sunshine hours.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Davis Bay, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. serves the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions, drawing on over 40 years of combined experience since 1983. The company manufactures its roofing in Delta, BC, so panels arrive ready to install and you're working with the maker's local arm. Because Interlock knows the regional climate—2202 mm rain, 184 cm snow, 124 km/h gusts, 26 freeze-thaw days—installers understand how to configure your roof to perform in these conditions. Local service also means faster warranty response and continuity if future maintenance or claims arise.
