Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Welcome Beach, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Putting some more tarps around the house to catch the debris might have been helpful, however they cleaned up everything quite well. We look forward to enjoying our beautiful roof for many years to come. We appreciate the knowledgeable, professional, and thorough approach that everyone from Interlock roofing took with our job.
It is a fantastic product but expensive.
Mike was excellent. Five stars. Thank-you. Wish we could afford your product.
Better communication, knowing start date well in advance.
Not happy with Interloc. Not because of Mike, but because of the lack of follow through.Brian O'Donnell
Refer to the other comments made. I think Interlock Roofing could have improved their communication and scheduling. I had to call them continuously to find out what was going on when no one would show up or if there were any other discrepancies. I was satisfied with the final look. I think that it is fine but I'm not unhappy with the way the install took place. I would think they would have one crew to handle the job and coordinate between them.
shorter time between delivery of materials and completion of project very pleased with the roof and the way it plays with our Leafguard gutters. i suggested to Todd that interlock should look at picking up the local BC franchise as the Leafguard product is no longer available here. seams like a good fit to me, eh.
None Appreciate the happy demeaner of the crew.
I am likely to recommend Interlock Roofing because the product looks beautiful, the installation team were very professional, diligent, and hardworking and left the site nice and clean. I think communication as far as scheduling could be improved. Having regular and routine updates would have been ideal. Overall, I'm a satisfied, happy customer.
It was a very pleasant process.
I already have recommended Interlock to neighbours.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Welcome Beach
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Welcome Beach, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Welcome Beach.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice dams in Welcome Beach winters?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, sloped profiles prevent pooling. Welcome Beach receives about 121 cm of snow annually with roughly 28 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that cause ice dams on asphalt. Aluminum's light weight (the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, and you can add snow guards to any profile for extra control on steeper pitches. The interlocking design keeps water from backing under panels even during rapid thaw cycles.
Will metal roofing stay secure in Welcome Beach's coastal wind gusts?
Completely. Welcome Beach experiences typical gusts up to 119 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking system distributes load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This design, verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, keeps panels locked together through extreme weather. Coastal wind won't lift or separate properly installed Interlock roofing.
Why doesn't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel, especially near salt water?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When exposed to air or salt spray, aluminum forms an oxide layer that protects the underlying metal and self-heals when scratched. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), plus applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both panel sides for additional coastal protection, with a 30-year coating warranty. This dual-layer approach has proven effective from Welcome Beach's marine environment to Antarctic research stations since 1998.
Can metal roofing survive hail, and will it lower my insurance costs?
Metal roofing is exceptionally hail-resistant. Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your insurer with the UL 2218 rating to inquire. Combined with the non-combustible aluminum construction (Class A fire rating available), the reduction in claims risk can meaningfully lower premiums over the roof's lifetime.
What warranty does Interlock metal roofing actually come with?
Interlock comes with The Guardian—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Unlike prorated warranties that decline yearly, this one remains full-value for your entire ownership. The warranty is also one-time transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion, strengthening your home's resale appeal. No other roofing—asphalt, wood, or traditional tile—offers comparable long-term protection or transfer terms.
How does metal roofing perform in Welcome Beach's 1680 mm of annual rainfall?
Interlock's interlocking panel design and proper underlayment shed rainfall effectively, even during heavy downpours. Welcome Beach averages about 1680 mm of rain per year, and the four-way overlap prevents water from entering seams. When installed over a solid deck and quality underlayment (as specified in ESR-1790), the system acts as a complete water-tight envelope. The aluminum itself is inert and won't absorb water or swell. Properly installed, you won't experience leaks that plague asphalt or wood shingles in wet climates.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Interlock metal roofing requires minimal maintenance. Unlike asphalt, which cracks and curls in freeze-thaw cycles, or wood shake, which splits and rots, aluminum simply stays intact. Welcome Beach's 28 annual freeze-thaw days and 1680 mm rainfall create conditions that age asphalt within 15-20 years; Interlock bypasses those failure modes entirely. Occasional gutter cleaning and visual inspections suffice. The Alunar coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) maintains its finish without sealant reapplication. This is why CALGreen rates Interlock as reduced-maintenance construction.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, and even the heavier Shake profile (0.58 lb/sq ft) weighs a fraction of what traditional materials demand. This extraordinary lightness means the roof can install directly over most existing structures, including asphalt shingles—eliminating costly tear-off and haul-away. Engineers verified this through ICC-ES ESR-1790, which confirms the system meets IBC/IRC code without requiring structural modification. You save time, labor, and expense.
Will a metal roof keep my home cooler and reduce energy bills?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 in certain finishes, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and converts to attic warmth. Welcome Beach receives about 2922 sunshine hours annually—enough to make reflectivity meaningful over the roof's lifetime. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these finishes for measurable cooling benefit. Over 30-50 years, the energy savings compound. Metal roofing doesn't offer dramatic AC load reduction in mild climates, but it does reduce unnecessary heat gain in spring and summer months while being fully recyclable at end of life.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, over the roof's life. Asphalt typically lasts 15-20 years in Welcome Beach's freeze-thaw environment (28 cycles annually), requiring costly tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty, non-prorated for the original owner and 50-year transferable for the next, eliminates replacement cycles. You also avoid recurring gutter maintenance, impact repairs, and premature failure costs. Current regional promotions offer interest-free payments for 3 months and at least 2,499 dollars in savings. The one-time installation becomes your final roof—the financial logic strengthens when you plan to stay 20+ years or resell.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Welcome Beach’s climate?
Yes. Welcome Beach averages about 121 cm of snow, 1680 mm of rain, roughly 28 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 119 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
