Review: December 8, 2022 Completion: December 1, 2022

We ordered this roof because of the amount of debris that tends to collect on our formerly shake roof, and the difficulty of cleaning it, as needles accumulated in the space between the shakes and were difficult to dislodge. This new roof is relatively smooth and should be easier to keep clean (time will tell). Everything was as promised, appears to be good workmanship, was good communication and satisfactory in every way. Installers were friendly, cooperative and cleaned up thoroughly after each day's work. Took 2 1/2 weeks to complete but it is a big roof. Not cheap, though we wanted a good roof not a cheap roof.

Interlock Roofing employees are professional not only in the way they take safety precautions but also in the way they conduct themselves. Our home was kept tidy from start to finish. Throughout the process, any concerns we had were answered to our satisfaction. Neighbours and passersby are very impressed with our new roof.

Review: May 1, 2003 Completion: October 7, 2002

We recently had our aging asphalt roof replaced with your Interlock Roofing System and I must compliment you on your product. When your salesman made the initial sales call we were presented with a complete roofing system package which looked ideal for our requirements. Upon examining the product I was extremely satisfied with the look and feel of the individual shingle. The installation process was clearly outlined and along with the guarantee was enough for us to go ahead. When the installation was completed by your experienced crew we were very satisfied and looked upon our roof as one of the most desirable in our neighborhood. As we live on the West Coast I was anxious to see what the results of our winter rain and snow storms would be. When the first real rainstorm passed through we observed the water beading up and flowing freely off the roof with no soaking in as we had previously experienced. We were pleasantly surprised when we noticed that the noise level was no greater than it had been before. My biggest surprise was after the first snowfall. When I went out in the morning I was amazed that the roof was clean with no snow build-up at all. This meant no more worries about the weight accumulation of very wet snow building up on the roof structure which was " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">aging. We would like to close by saying your product has exceeded our expectations and has made us feel very comfortable in our home. We now know we do not ever have to worry about the failure of the roof during the life of our home. The Interlock product has proven itself to us to be vastly superior to the other systems we were looking at and was well worth the added expense. Thank you for letting us look forward to retiring without the worries of expensive modifications to our home.

Review: April 14, 2026 Completion: June 30, 2025

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Review: April 13, 2024 Completion: February 28, 2014

The workmanship and quality exceeded my expectation. Last summer, we had power outages for 3 days without AC in an extreme hot day, I realized how cool the roof is, the fully double insulations under the metal slate keep the house so cool, we don't think we need AC anymore. It must save a lot on energy bills. Thank you for Interlock Metal Roofing

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Guildford

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Guildford, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Guildford.

What roof profiles does Interlock Metal Roofing offer, and which one looks right for a Guildford home?

Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each uses four-way interlocking aluminum panels that hold their appearance through Guildford's 1437 mm of annual rain and 57 cm of snow without the maintenance burden of actual slate or wood. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles suit heritage neighbourhoods; Shake works for cottage-style homes; Standing Seam delivers a modern, clean line; and Mediterranean Tile brings warmth to contemporary designs. All five are finished with Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides and come in multiple colours.

Is metal roofing more expensive than asphalt shingles, and does it actually save money?

Metal roofing costs more upfront, but the maths shift over time. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock's lifetime limited warranty means the original owner never pays to replace it. Factor in Guildford's 38 annual freeze-thaw days—a major accelerant for asphalt deterioration—and the gap closes fast. A metal roof also carries transferable coverage to the next owner for 50 years from completion, protecting your resale value. With current promotions offering interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499, the entry cost becomes manageable.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a coastal-climate area like Metro Vancouver?

No. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—a property that makes it superior to steel in salt air or high-moisture environments. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. This dual-sided protection is especially important in Guildford, where 1437 mm of annual rainfall and occasional salt spray from the Pacific create conditions that degrade less resilient materials.

How does a metal roof handle Guildford's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt or wood because of its smooth, sloped panel design and the four-way interlocking seams that prevent water infiltration. Guildford averages about 57 cm of snow per year and 38 freeze-thaw days, conditions that create the ice-dam risk that destroys many asphalt roofs. The Interlock panels' light weight—the Shake profile installs at just 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, and snow naturally slides off rather than accumulating in critical load zones. Snow guards can be added if desired for safety.

Will a metal roof stay secure during Guildford's wind storms?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Guildford's typical daily-max winds run around 16 km/h with gusts to 114 km/h—well within that threshold. The four-way interlocking seams create a unified structure that distributes wind load across the whole roof rather than relying on individual fasteners. The panel design and interlocking geometry are verified under ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, which confirms compliance with IBC and IRC wind-resistance codes.

With 1437 mm of rain per year in Guildford, how does metal roofing prevent leaks?

The four-way interlocking seams and gravity-driven water path on Interlock panels shed rainfall faster than asphalt can absorb it. Water never pools at the seams because the interlock geometry naturally channels it downward and outward. Guildford receives about 1437 mm of rain annually, plus 57 cm of snow that melts into additional water load—conditions that expose poor sealing quickly. The panels' aluminum construction and PVDF coating resist degradation from constant moisture exposure, and when installed to code over a solid deck and appropriate underlayment, the system maintains its integrity year after year.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

Almost never. The Mediterranean Tile profile, the heaviest Interlock option, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to existing roof load. This light weight means Interlock installs over most existing asphalt roofs without structural work, saving thousands on reinforcement costs. Your home's framing was built to handle the weight it's carrying now; metal roofing typically weighs less than what's already there. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms that no structural upgrades are required under standard residential conditions.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires virtually none. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection for granule loss, splits, and curling—especially in Guildford's 38 freeze-thaw days per year, which accelerate deterioration. Wood shingles demand staining, sealing, and moss treatment. Tile requires regrouting and leak repairs. Interlock aluminum panels don't rot, split, curl, or lose impact resistance. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintains its colour and gloss (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) through 2927 annual sunshine hours and heavy rainfall without treatment. Interlock is verified by CALGreen for reduced maintenance.

Does a metal roof handle hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?

Yes to both. Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the panels pass the toughest drop-impact test in the roofing industry. Many insurance companies recognize this certification and offer premium discounts because metal roofs rarely file hail claims. Check with your insurer, but the combination of proven durability and the lifetime limited warranty makes metal roofing an asset when pricing coverage.

Do reflective metal roof coatings actually save energy in a place like Guildford?

Metal roofing with reflective coatings reduces the heat your home absorbs, lowering cooling costs. Interlock's energy-efficient colours achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—ratings verified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Guildford, where you see about 2927 sunshine hours per year, this reflectance matters. While Guildford winters are cool (mean 10.1°C), a reflective roof reduces summer air-conditioning demand and protects the coating from UV damage, extending the life of the Alunar 70% PVDF finish. The result is lower utility bills and a longer-wearing roof.
