| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
We ordered this roof because of the amount of debris that tends to collect on our formerly shake roof, and the difficulty of cleaning it, as needles accumulated in the space between the shakes and were difficult to dislodge. This new roof is relatively smooth and should be easier to keep clean (time will tell). Everything was as promised, appears to be good workmanship, was good communication and satisfactory in every way. Installers were friendly, cooperative and cleaned up thoroughly after each day's work. Took 2 1/2 weeks to complete but it is a big roof. Not cheap, though we wanted a good roof not a cheap roof. One small issue we didn't anticipate, but it is nobody's fault and doesn't reflect on the quality of the roof or workmanship. Because the roof is so smooth, snow collecting on the roof tends to slide down and accumulate beyond the eavestroughs. Then when it thaws, water drips down getting everything below it wet. Our covered patio used to be dry below but now we have to move furniture to keep it from getting soaked. We don't know if this will be a bigger problem when we get deeper snowfall on the roof.
see comments below. poor customer service better communications on start date for roof and not leaving materials sit in driveway for 6 weeks and then another 7 weeks to finish project we signed the contact on Feb 28,2022 with Mike Smith and was looking at a start time out of 4 to 6 weeks for the roof and then waited until July 22 before it was even started until finished 6 mouths later. poor customer service.
Everyone that we dealt with from the start was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. We never felt pressured to make a premature decision and follow up querstions were answered promptly with supporting research. No areas of improvement come to mind.
There are still metal clippings and aluminum nails around the property that I am cleaning up. It’s not a big deal but it is an area to improve on for future customers.
Everything was satisfactory from when Mike Smith showed up to when the boys finished up. It was a lengthy project but they got it done. We just love the product.
They communicated with me really well. There were a few times that they did not come and we did not know why.
When I agreed to have the work done, I wanted to do my shed on my own and just purchase the materials from Interlock and that didn't seem to be an available option. The only thing additionally I would like is to purchase the materials to do my shed, on my own, so it would match my home.
I would be embarrassed. Keep the schedule in a timely manner. It should not take a year to complete. I had to talk to General manager and he did his job.
Measurement estimates, gutter flasings fit and finish, room for improvement. Thank you!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Whalley
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Whalley, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Whalley.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Whalley's winters?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels grip snow and distribute load safely across your roof structure—no sliding. Whalley averages 57 cm of snow annually with about 38 freeze-thaw days per year, creating ideal conditions for ice damming on asphalt. Aluminum's smooth surface and optional snow guards prevent dangerous slides while the lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) eliminates the need for structural reinforcement. The panels' engineering also resists the stress of repeated freezing and thawing that cracks traditional materials.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust or corrode near the ocean?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the source of rust in steel. Instead, it develops a protective aluminum oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for salt-air exposure. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both panel sides for extra protection in coastal climates, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. The company has installed roofs from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998, proving durability where steel would corrode.
Is a metal roof worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles?
A metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt but becomes the last roof you'll buy. Your new Interlock roof carries a lifetime limited material warranty—non-prorated for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years before landfill; Interlock eliminates the cycle of tear-offs, disposal, and replacement every two decades. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and hail impact up to 1.5 inches. Current promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and $2,499 minimum savings on installation.
What roof styles does Interlock offer for Whalley homes?
Five profiles replicate traditional materials: Slate (clean, formal lines), Cedar Shingle (dimensional texture), Shake (rustic hand-split look), Mediterranean Tile (rounded barrel profiles), and Standing Seam (architectural vertical ribs). Each is aluminum—durable, lightweight, and warranted identically. Choose the profile that matches your home's character and Whalley's 2,927 annual sunshine hours will showcase the finish color and detail. All profiles meet ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 for building code compliance and come in energy-efficient colors with solar reflectance up to 0.55.
Will a metal roof withstand Whalley's wind and storm gusts?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Whalley's typical gusts reach about 114 km/h, well within the rating. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load and preventing uplift or panel separation. This engineering has proven reliable across 40+ years of installations, from coastal storms to urban wind tunnels. Combined with UL 2218 Class 4 hail impact resistance, your roof stands firm against the full range of Metro Vancouver weather.
Does Interlock's hail rating lower my homeowner's insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—with warranty coverage for perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this non-combustible aluminum construction and superior impact resistance and may offer premium reductions; contact your agent with the ESR-1790 code evaluation and UL 2218 certification to discuss discounts. Whalley's rainfall averages 1,437 mm annually with occasional hail risk during spring storms. Class 4 protection exceeds asphalt and traditional tile, potentially lowering your risk profile in underwriting.
Can an existing roof structure support a metal roof, or will I need reinforcement?
Aluminum's extraordinary lightness means no structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, despite replicating heavy clay or concrete tile, installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than the real thing. Shake is 0.58 lb/sq ft, Cedar Shingle 0.41 lb/sq ft. Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs, eliminating the cost and waste of tear-off and disposal. This is especially valuable in Whalley, where the freeze-thaw cycle and 57 cm annual snow load stress roofing structure; the light aluminum distributes that stress safely without hidden reinforcement costs.
Do reflective metal roofs actually lower cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Whalley's 2,927 annual sunshine hours deliver consistent solar gain; reflective coatings reduce peak summer temperatures and lower air-conditioning load. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the thermal performance. Lower attic heat also protects your roof from age-accelerating UV exposure and reduces thermal cycling stress during the 38 freeze-thaw days per year typical in this region.
How long does metal roof installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity but typically completes within 1–3 weeks. Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs when structural and decking conditions allow, eliminating tear-off labor and landfill waste. The lightweight panels (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) reduce installation stress on framing. Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. has served the Metro Vancouver region since 1983 and manages all site logistics. A site visit confirms existing conditions and provides accurate timeline and cost; current promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months plus at least $2,499 installation savings.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?
Aluminum requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV exposure and thermal cycling and must be inspected yearly; wood shakes split and rot; tile cracks from freeze-thaw. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—measured to ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards—and resists the moisture, temperature extremes, and freeze-thaw stress of Whalley's 1,437 mm rain and 38 annual freeze-thaw cycles. The lifetime limited warranty covers splitting, cracking, and curling. You'll save years of repairs and inspections, making aluminum the low-maintenance choice for Metro Vancouver.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Whalley’s climate?
Yes. Whalley averages about 57 cm of snow, 1437 mm of rain, roughly 38 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 114 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
