Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for South Surrey, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
About 6 months after the project was completed, I noticed there was a lot of asphalt bits in my gutters. About 4-5 bags worth. I believed this happened when Interlock was prepping the old asphalt roof for the new metal shingle one. So it would have been nice for them to have cleaned out the gutters as that should have been part of the job cleanup.
Regarding their warranty, the salesperson made it sound to us like it was covered by a third party, but when we read the fine print, it was covered only by Interlock, not a third party. That was one reason we went with Penfold (their warranty is covered by a third party).
Quality product, easy to work with professional installation team. N/A
I have no idea what Interlock Metal Roofing could have improved on. We were extremely happy. We are 120% happy.
We are very pleased with Nicholas and his crew. They showed up when they said they would and kept us informed as the project progressed. They were also very polite to talk to and cleaned up at the end of every day. Very professional.!! We would recommend ">Interlock to anyone that is looking for a metal roof. From the sales team through to the installation crew we felt that we were being looked after and everyone kept us informed through the whole process. Thank you to you all.
If somebody I recommended Interlock Roofing rec'd the service level I rec'd ( my opinion of course) I would have been embarrassed to have made the recommendation. COMMUNICATIONS! FOLLOW UP! COMPANY INTERACTION WITH CUSTOMER! BETTER PROTOCOL FOR SITE CLEANLINESS ! If the company is genuinely interested in my personal opinion, I would be happy to share it and hear what they think of how things went and if I should feel the way I do! Criteria for this. This meeting or phone conversation WOULD HAVE TO BE somebody higher in the company than the installation manager Todd Jones and NOT MR. Dave Thomas. Although, obviously, my roof hasn't had the test of time, I chose it because I believed it to be the best option available. However, in my opinion, the manner in which this service was conducted lacked professionalism and may be causing the loss of new business.
I was very happy. They were expensive but I am happy with it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in South Surrey
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in South Surrey, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in South Surrey.
Does metal roofing handle South Surrey's snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum's light weight and smooth profiles shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt. South Surrey averages about 57 cm of snow annually and roughly 38 freeze-thaw days per year, conditions that cause ice dams and moss growth on conventional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels (ESR-1790 rated) and sloped design prevent water pooling and ice backup; the metal surface resists the repeated expansion-contraction damage that splits wood shakes and degrades asphalt.
Why can't an aluminum metal roof rust in a rainy climate like ours?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that naturally reforms when scratched. With South Surrey receiving about 1437 mm of rain annually, this intrinsic corrosion resistance is critical. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) and applies Alunar 70% PVDF coating to both panel sides—a 30-year warranted finish that protects coastal salt-air homes the same way it protects our Antarctic research-station installations.
Will a metal roof stay on during South Surrey's wind storms?
Interlock panels are engineered to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. South Surrey's typical wind gusts reach 114 km/h, well within the warranty range. The four-way interlocking design creates a unified system that distributes force across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners; this is why the system performs so reliably in high-wind coastal regions. Installation to spec is essential—ask your Interlock installer (BC) Ltd. to detail the fastening protocol during your quote.
Does a metal roof help with hail damage and insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum roof has prompted homeowners to contact insurers about premium reductions; while coverage varies by provider and policy, the documented impact resistance (ESR-1790, ICC-ES 2025) often supports favorable underwriting reviews. Combine that durability with a lifetime limited warranty, and the financial risk profile improves significantly over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.
Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in South Surrey's climate?
South Surrey receives about 2927 sunshine hours per year, making reflective roofing measurable. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 (Cool Roof Rating Council rated), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into living spaces. In summer, this means lower cooling load; in winter, the thermal properties remain neutral. Over a 50-year lifespan, the cumulative energy savings—particularly in older homes without attic ventilation—can offset installation cost, especially during the current 3-month interest-free financing window.
Is metal roofing light enough to install over my existing roof without reinforcement?
Yes. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile—visually identical to heavy clay tile—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than actual concrete or clay. This extraordinary lightness means no structural reinforcement is needed; installation over most existing roofs is possible, eliminating the cost and mess of tear-off disposal. Aluminum's low density also reduces long-term load stress, particularly important in South Surrey's snow region where the roof must carry about 57 cm of annual accumulation without strain.
How long does metal roofing installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, but Interlock (BC) Ltd.'s experienced crews typically complete residential projects within a few days. Because aluminum panels weigh just 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft (versus asphalt tear-off and removal), many installations proceed over the existing roof, eliminating weeks of disposal and avoiding asphalt particulate in your yard. The fastening system (ESR-1790 compliant) accommodates standard rafter spacing. Ask your local installer for a site assessment; they'll confirm whether over-roof installation applies to your home and provide a firm timeline.
What does the metal roofing warranty actually cover, and how long does it last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of protection from completion date. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244) separately protects against chalking and fading. Combined with aluminum's inherent corrosion immunity and UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, this means your final roof will outlast any asphalt or wood-shake alternative, making it genuinely the last roof you'll buy.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Upfront cost is higher, but over 50 years, the math favors metal. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years; multiply tear-off, disposal, and labor costs across three cycles, and total ownership cost often exceeds a single Interlock installation. Add the Guardian Warranty (lifetime/50-year transfer), zero rust risk in South Surrey's 1437 mm rain and 38 freeze-thaw days, and current financing—3 months interest-free with at least $2499 savings—and the value proposition becomes compelling. Energy savings, potential insurance credits, and resale appeal widen the gap further.
Is aluminum roofing more environmentally responsible than traditional materials?
Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life; aluminum retains value in scrap markets indefinitely. In contrast, traditional asphalt shingle tear-offs go to landfills—a cycle that repeats every 15–20 years. Over your roof's 50-year lifespan, you'd dispose of 2–3 asphalt roofs; with Interlock, you dispose of one aluminum roof that becomes raw material for new production. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, Interlock has eliminated millions of pounds of roofing waste from regional landfills while supporting the circular economy.
Is a metal roof a good choice for South Surrey’s climate?
Yes. South Surrey averages about 57 cm of snow, 1437 mm of rain, roughly 38 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 114 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
