Review: June 2, 2006 Completion: July 25, 2005

Just wanted to let you know that we are very satisfied with the aluminum interlocking roof which was installed in July of 2005. It was amazing to us how quickly and efficiently your men worked in removing our old asphalt layers of roof and installing the new one. Needless to say, we were very impressed with their work as well as our new roof! Unfortunately, during installation of the roof, damage was done to the interior ceiling of our dining room. Interlock did respond and the damaged area was repaired in a timely manner. Unfortunately our existing ceilings are plaster and the repaired area was done in wallboard which simply do not match. In order for this to be repaired properly, the entire ceiling has to be repainted with a light texture. Whatever you can do to help rectify the pending repair to the interior ceiling would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to speaking with you in the near future. Once again, thank you for offering us the opportunity to upgrade our home with an outstanding roof.

Review: December 15, 2004 Completion: December 6, 2004

I was very pleased with your workers and their completion of the job. They worked hard, putting in more than a full day of work at a time, and were very courteous. They did their job well, cleaning up after themselves. I am very pleased with how wonderful the roof looks. We live up a big hill and my house is a raised ranch and therefore higher in the air. Before your workers came to work on my roof, I would hear a lot of noise when we had howling winds. I now realize that that noise was the roof deteriorating, because now that the new roof is up, there is no noise. My old roof was in terrible shape. It is wonderful that the new roof is installed and making my life more comfortable. I would recommend your company for the installation of a new roof any day. Thanks again for making my life less stressful.

> We had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Brown at the Mohegan Sun Home Show and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tell him how happy we are with our Interlock roof of ~20 years. We constantly receive compliments from people passing by on how beautiful it looks. Most of all, we appreciate the peace of mind it gives us—knowing we’ll never have to replace our roof, thanks to the lifetime warranty and guaranteed protection against leaks.

Review: April 21, 2006 Completion: February 13, 2006

Dear Friends at Interlock, When we were asked to write a letter of approval for our new Interlock roof, we weren't ready to write one. We weren't sure that our homes leaky roof history was cured - at least we weren't sure then. Even though the Interlock roof looked beautiful, we were still hesitant. We spoke with Jerry, your sales rep, before our purchase and we discussed our concerns with him. He thoroughly explained how the Interlock roofing is manufactured, that it is maintenance-free and explained Interlocks "lifetime guarantee". We felt after considering all the facts we were ready to invest in this exceptional product. The installers were outstanding. They were on-time, consistently at work, and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves every day. They even returned after the work was completed, a few weeks later, to readjust our gutters. We now can say how very pleased we are with our new Interlock roof. Its distinctive appearance and beauty adds value to our home. Many people stop by to look and have remarked on the clean, classy look. On our brother's recent visit he commented on the beauty of our roof and said 'wow, it looks great. Only the best, right?' Yes, he is right, only the best.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Middlebury

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Middlebury, Connecticut. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Middlebury.

Will a metal roof hold up through Connecticut's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum's non-porous structure makes it ideal for freeze-thaw stress. Middlebury experiences about 72 freeze-thaw days per year, and unlike asphalt or wood, aluminum has no moisture absorption points where ice can expand and crack the material. The Alunar coating bonds directly to the metal at both sides of every panel, sealing out water before it can penetrate. The four-way interlocking design sheds meltwater quickly, preventing pooling in freeze conditions. Over 25+ years in similar Northeast climates, Interlock panels show no degradation from seasonal cycling.

How do metal roofs handle heavy snow loads in Middlebury?

Metal roofs shed snow safely because of their extremely light weight and smooth, interlocked surface. Middlebury receives about 65 cm of snow annually, and the Interlock Shake profile, for example, weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than traditional tile—so your existing roof structure needs no reinforcement even if you're installing over an old roof. The sloped, non-porous surface prevents ice dams by allowing meltwater to flow freely. For steeper slopes or areas with heavy wet snow, metal snow guards are a simple, low-cost option that integrates seamlessly with the panel design.

Can aluminum roofing rust or corrode in New England's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal and self-heals when scratched. Middlebury receives about 1232 mm of rain yearly, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of every panel (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) provides an additional barrier against moisture and UV exposure. This dual protection is why Interlock panels have been installed in coastal salt-air environments worldwide without rust or staining—a climate far harsher than inland Connecticut.

With heavy rain in Connecticut, will water leak through metal roof seams?

Your roof will stay dry because the four-way interlocking system overlaps panels in both horizontal and vertical directions, creating a labyrinth that water cannot penetrate. Heavy rainfall—Middlebury receives about 1232 mm annually—flows immediately off the smooth metal surface into gutters before it can pool or find seams. Installation over a solid deck with ICC-ES ESR-1790 approved underlayment seals the substrate completely. The panels are warranted against water infiltration and leaks, and the design has proven reliable from coastal storms to Antarctic research stations receiving extreme precipitation.

Are metal roofs safe in Connecticut windstorms?

Absolutely—Interlock's four-way interlocking design and wind warranty provide serious protection. Middlebury experiences gusts up to about 126 km/h, and the Interlock warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking means each panel is mechanically locked on all four edges to its neighbors, not just nailed—a system that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. This engineering, validated by ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790, keeps the roof intact during the severe nor'easters and microbursts that occasionally strike New England.

Will hail damage my metal roof or affect my insurance?

Hail resistance is one of metal's great advantages. Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on homes with metal roofs, offsetting part of your installation cost. While Middlebury's climate doesn't feature frequent large hail, the Class 4 rating means your roof will outperform asphalt shingles, which dent and lose granules far more easily. Document the rating and warranty with your insurer when requesting a quote adjustment.

Does a metal roof require expensive structural reinforcement?

No—aluminum's extraordinary lightness eliminates that cost. The Interlock Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile, despite replicating heavy clay tile, weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than the real thing. This means no roof trusses or beams need reinforcement, and the system installs directly over most existing asphalt roofs without tearing off the old roof first. Saving the labor and landfill cost of removal puts thousands of dollars back in your pocket and reduces installation time significantly, even on older homes with modest structural capacity.

How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof really need?

Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Metal roofs require no annual sealing, patching, or granule replacement—tasks asphalt demands every few years. Twice yearly, gently rinse debris and leaves from gutters and the roof surface; that's it. Middlebury's about 3134 sunshine hours and 1232 mm rainfall per year won't degrade the Alunar 70% PVDF finish, which is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. The non-porous aluminum won't rot, split, or curl like wood shakes, and the four-way interlocking prevents leaks that require costly repairs. Your roof simply performs with minimal attention—the last roof you buy.

Are metal roofs really better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes, in multiple ways. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum, so when eventually replaced decades from now, the material returns to the recycling stream as valuable feedstock rather than landfill waste. An asphalt tear-off generates tons of shingles destined for the dump every 15-25 years. Over a 50-year lifespan, you'll avoid multiple roof replacements, eliminating repetitive tear-off cycles and their truck traffic, labor, and disposal emissions. Middlebury's 1232 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycling would stress asphalt roofs into early failure; aluminum's durability means genuine, long-term environmental benefit, not just marketing.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

When you calculate the full life cycle, metal roofing is genuinely less expensive. Asphalt lasts 15-25 years and requires replacement two or three times over a 50-year period; Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, then transfers 50 years to the next owner, effectively spanning generations. Factor in asphalt's annual maintenance, vulnerability to Middlebury's 72 yearly freeze-thaw cycles, and potential wind and hail damage, versus metal's minimal maintenance and weather durability, and the total cost of ownership strongly favors metal. Right now, we're offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—timing that can reduce your net cost significantly.
