Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Oxford, Connecticut
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I was very pleased with your workers and their completion of the job. They worked hard, putting in more than a full day of work at a time, and were very courteous. They did their job well, cleaning up after themselves. I am very pleased with how wonderful the roof looks. We live up a big hill and my house is a raised ranch and therefore higher in the air. Before your workers came to work on my roof, I would hear a lot of noise when we had howling winds. I now realize that that noise was the roof deteriorating, because now that the new roof is up, there is no noise. My old roof was in terrible shape. It is wonderful that the new roof is installed and making my life more comfortable. I would recommend your company for the installation of a new roof any day. Thanks again for making my life less stressful.
Just wanted to let you know that we are very satisfied with the aluminum interlocking roof which was installed in July of 2005. It was amazing to us how quickly and efficiently your men worked in removing our old asphalt layers of roof and installing the new one. Needless to say, we were very impressed with their work as well as our new roof! Unfortunately, during installation of the roof, damage was done to the interior ceiling of our dining room. Interlock did respond and the damaged area was repaired in a timely manner. Unfortunately our existing ceilings are plaster and the repaired area was done in wallboard which simply do not match. In order for this to be repaired properly, the entire ceiling has to be repainted with a light texture. Whatever you can do to help rectify the pending repair to the interior ceiling would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to speaking with you in the near future. Once again, thank you for offering us the opportunity to upgrade our home with an outstanding roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Oxford
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Oxford, Connecticut. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Oxford.
Will a metal roof handle Connecticut's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. Oxford experiences about 72 freeze-thaw days per year, which destroys asphalt and wood, but aluminum's oxide layer doesn't crack, split, or curl when temperatures swing. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy we use (ASTM B209 spec) expands and contracts uniformly without embrittlement. Asphalt becomes brittle in cold; wood rots from trapped moisture. Aluminum sheds both and stays stable. That's why our Guardian warranty covers splitting and cracking—we know aluminum won't do either, even cycling through 70+ freezes annually.
How does a metal roof handle Oxford's snow load and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip. Oxford gets about 65 cm of snow per year, and that weight matters: our Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—light enough that no structural upgrades are needed, yet rigid enough to support snow loads without pooling. Ice dams form when heat melts snow unevenly; metal's high reflectance (up to 0.55 on energy-efficiency colors) and faster cold-weather cooling reduce that melt. Pair that with proper ventilation and snow guards, and you avoid the ice-dam damage that costs Oxford homeowners thousands in repairs annually.
Can a metal roof withstand Oxford's wind gusts?
Absolutely. Oxford's typical wind gusts reach about 126 km/h, and our Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing gust loads across the entire roof assembly rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. That's why we hold UL 2218 Class 4 impact certification and why the system stays watertight in the severe local wind events that can tear conventional roofs apart. Installation matters—we do it right, which is why the warranty is ironclad.
Why does aluminum never rust, and what does that mean for my roof?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust is iron oxidation. What aluminum does develop is a thin, self-healing oxide layer that forms immediately when the bare metal is exposed to air. If you scratch an aluminum panel, that layer reforms on its own within hours, sealing the scratch. We coat both sides of every panel with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon (30-year warranty against chalking), adding extra protection. Oxford gets about 1232 mm of rain yearly; that constant moisture would destroy steel roofing but merely rinses aluminum clean. No rust, no rot, no structural failure from corrosion—that's why aluminum is the only sensible choice for a roof that lasts your lifetime.
Will hail damage my metal roof, and can I save on insurance?
No—our roofing holds UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail impact rating available, and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That rating comes from real testing, not marketing. Many insurance carriers recognize this durability and offer discounts on metal roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore savings. Oxford's climate doesn't see extreme hail often, but when severe weather does roll through New Haven County, you'll sleep soundly knowing your roof won't be shredded. Class 4 means it's tested to withstand what nature throws at it.
Yes, but the benefit matters most on sunny days. Oxford gets about 3134 sunshine hours per year, and energy-efficient Interlock colors have initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorbing it like asphalt. That difference compounds: a reflective roof can run 10-15°F cooler on a summer afternoon, reducing air-conditioning runtime. Connecticut's mean temperature is mild (11.8°C), so you won't see California-level savings, but over a 50-year roof lifespan, every cooling season counts. The cooler surface also extends the life of interior insulation and attic components.
Do reflective metal roofs really lower cooling costs in Connecticut?
What does the Guardian warranty actually cover, and for how long?
The Guardian is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—nonprorated—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That means if a panel fails from a manufacturing defect, we replace it free, whether it's year one or year 40. It's also transferable once: the next owner gets a 50-year guarantee from the completion date. Over your life in the home and potentially into the next owner's tenure, you're protected. No other roofing material offers that combination of coverage depth and duration. That's not marketing; that's confidence in what we manufacture.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over asphalt shingles?
Compare the math over 50 years, not year one. Asphalt costs less upfront but needs replacement every 15-20 years in Connecticut's climate—that's multiple tear-offs, disposal, and reinstallation cycles. Each cycle sends thousands of pounds to the landfill and costs thousands out of pocket. Metal roofing installs once and outlasts three asphalt roofs. When you factor in the labor, debris removal, and disruption of two or three replacements, plus the energy savings from reflective coatings reducing cooling load over decades, metal closes the gap quickly. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. That makes the decision easier.
Can you install a metal roof over my existing shingles, or do I need a tear-off?
We can often install over existing asphalt without a full tear-off, depending on roof condition and local code. Interlock panels are extraordinarily light—the Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most homes' framing handles the load without reinforcement. The lightweight advantage also means faster installation and lower labor costs. A tear-off is sometimes cleaner if old roofing is damaged, but if your current roof is structurally sound and structurally sound and relatively flat, over-application saves time, waste, and money. Your local Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. installer will assess your roof and advise the best path—we've been doing this since 1999.
Are metal roofs really better for the environment?
Substantially, yes. Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable; at end of life (decades away), your metal roof becomes feedstock for new products rather than landfill mass. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15-20 years and dumped—millions of tons annually in North America alone. Over a 50-year period, you'll generate zero roofing waste with metal versus two or three full tear-offs with asphalt. Interlock manufacturing in Delta, BC uses processes aligned with CALGreen-verified standards for reduced maintenance impact. Choosing metal breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. For Oxford homeowners who care about resource efficiency, it's the honest choice.
