| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
There should always be a person on site that speaks fluent English and communicates with the homeowner before and after the work day.
Nice job all around! Thanks to all for a great job. It's a relief to know that the roof will be able to endure the winter.
Just wanted to let you know that we are very satisfied with the aluminum interlocking roof which was installed in July of 2005. It was amazing to us how quickly and efficiently your men worked in removing our old asphalt layers of roof and installing the new one. Needless to say, we were very impressed with their work as well as our new roof! Unfortunately, during installation of the roof, damage was done to the interior ceiling of our dining room. Interlock did respond and the damaged area was repaired in a timely manner. Unfortunately our existing ceilings are plaster and the repaired area was done in wallboard which simply do not match. In order for this to be repaired properly, the entire ceiling has to be repainted with a light texture. Whatever you can do to help rectify the pending repair to the interior ceiling would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to speaking with you in the near future. Once again, thank you for offering us the opportunity to upgrade our home with an outstanding roof.
Their customer service was really poor. Their customer service could have been improved. It was a catastrophe from start to finish.
I was not able to communicate with the installation crew. Also, I would have liked some extra materials for future problems. The biggest issue with Interlock Roofing is communication. I had to get a friend of mine who speaks Spanish to come over and communicate with the crew. My father was in the construction business forever. Some of the quality of work isn't the greatest. I would rate some of the work as a 2 on a scale of 0 to 4.
Oh yeah, I would. Somebody called me in February or March about the roof. Right now, I'm happy because the roof looks great and is very pretty. However, the real test will be in the winter with the ice dams. That's why we went with Interlock Roofing.
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the original scoping. No, there's nothing else I'd like to share about the experience.
> We had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Brown at the Mohegan Sun Home Show and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tell him how happy we are with our Interlock roof of ~20 years. We constantly receive compliments from people passing by on how beautiful it looks. Most of all, we appreciate the peace of mind it gives us—knowing we’ll never have to replace our roof, thanks to the lifetime warranty and guaranteed protection against leaks.
Dear Friends at Interlock, When we were asked to write a letter of approval for our new Interlock roof, we weren't ready to write one. We weren't sure that our homes leaky roof history was cured - at least we weren't sure then. Even though the Interlock roof looked beautiful, we were still hesitant. We spoke with Jerry, your sales rep, before our purchase and we discussed our concerns with him. He thoroughly explained how the Interlock roofing is manufactured, that it is maintenance-free and explained Interlocks "lifetime guarantee". We felt after considering all the facts we were ready to invest in this exceptional product. The installers were outstanding. They were on-time, consistently at work, and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves every day. They even returned after the work was completed, a few weeks later, to readjust our gutters. We now can say how very pleased we are with our new Interlock roof. Its distinctive appearance and beauty adds value to our home. Many people stop by to look and have remarked on the clean, classy look. On our brother's recent visit he commented on the beauty of our roof and said 'wow, it looks great. Only the best, right?' Yes, he is right, only the best.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Waterbury
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Waterbury, Connecticut. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Waterbury.
Does a metal roof handle Connecticut's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably, even under Waterbury's typical 65 cm annual snowfall. The smooth, hard-anodized surface resists ice bonding better than asphalt, which absorbs moisture and expands during the region's 72 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Snow guards are available if you need them. The lightweight design (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no snow load concerns and no structural reinforcement, so your home's framing stays uncompromised through Connecticut winters.
Why does freeze-thaw cycling damage some roofs but not Interlock metal?
Freeze-thaw damage happens because water enters materials, expands when frozen, and cracks them from inside. Waterbury experiences about 72 freeze-thaw days yearly, making this a real risk. Aluminum cannot rust or rot, so water that lands on it doesn't trigger degradation the way it does with asphalt (which softens and hardens cyclically) or wood (which splits). The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating—warranted 30 years against chalking—seals out moisture at both surfaces. That's why Interlock roofs survive Connecticut winters intact.
Can aluminum roofing rust in Connecticut's wet climate?
No. Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—ever. Even with Waterbury's 1,232 mm of annual rainfall, the metal won't corrode. When scratched, aluminum forms a new protective oxide layer automatically. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel (coastal-grade protection), which adds a 30-year warranty against fading and chalking per ASTM D4214 standards. Steel roofs, by contrast, rely on coatings to prevent rust; once the coating cracks, corrosion begins. Aluminum's immunity to rust is fundamental—not dependent on any protective layer—making it ideal for wet New England climates where salt air and constant moisture are concerns.
Will a metal roof blow off in Connecticut's wind gusts?
No. Waterbury sees typical daily winds around 19 km/h with gusts up to 126 km/h—well within Interlock's tested limits. The panels are warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Four-way interlocking—each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides—distributes wind load across the entire roof assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. This is verified in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, which confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind load standards. The engineering is overkill for typical nor'easters, giving homeowners genuine peace of mind during Connecticut's seasonal storms.
Do energy-efficiency metal roofing colors really lower cooling costs?
Yes, measurably. energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it: thermal emissivity reaches 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny). Waterbury's 3,134 sunshine hours per year—concentrated in spring through fall—mean steady solar gain on south- and west-facing roofs. Reflective aluminum reduces that absorbed heat, lowering air-conditioning demand on hot days. Asphalt absorbs most solar energy and re-radiates it into the attic; Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms Interlock performs better. Over a 30-year roof life, the cumulative cooling savings offset material cost for many homeowners, especially if your utility rates rise.
What happens if hail hits my metal roof in Connecticut?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While true hail events are uncommon in Waterbury, the Class 4 rating is a competitive advantage: some insurers offer premium discounts for impact-rated roofs. Aluminum's hardness and elasticity absorb impact without permanent deformation or leaks. Steel roofs dent visibly; asphalt loses granules and splits. Even if a stone leaves a cosmetic mark on aluminum, the material beneath remains structurally sound, and the 30-year coating warranty covers any chalking or fading from weather exposure.
How long does an Interlock metal roof actually last in Connecticut?
The Guardian lifetime limited warranty is non-prorated for the original owner—meaning no deductibles or percentage reductions over time—and covers rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion date. In real terms, if you install Interlock today, your home is protected indefinitely, and when you sell, the next owner gets five more decades. Asphalt roofs typically last 15–20 years before failure; Interlock is engineered for 40+ years minimum, but the warranty structure acknowledges that the material lasts even longer. This converts your roof from a repeating expense into a one-time investment.
Does a metal roof require less maintenance than asphalt or wood shakes?
Substantially less. Asphalt requires annual gutter cleaning and inspection; wood shakes need protective recoating every 5–10 years and splinter removal. Interlock aluminum needs only routine gutter maintenance and debris removal—the same as any roof. The four-way interlocking panels and 30-year-warranted coating eliminate the common failure points: split shakes, curled shingles, and loss of water-shedding granules. Waterbury's 1,232 mm annual rainfall and 72 freeze-thaw cycles would accelerate wood rot and asphalt deterioration; aluminum is inert to both. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden, meaning fewer service calls and no emergency repairs from weather cycling.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?
Interlock installs without structural reinforcement in almost all cases. The Tile profile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and the Shingle profile is even lighter at 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most homes built to support asphalt shingles (2–3 lb/sq ft) have more than adequate capacity. In fact, Interlock often installs directly over existing asphalt, avoiding a costly tear-off and landfill disposal. Your framing avoids new load and new stress during Connecticut's 72 annual freeze-thaw cycles, so wood beams remain stable. No structural engineer, no reinforcement, no surprise costs—the material's engineering eliminates a major barrier to upgrading.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes, in two ways. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, meaning at the end of its 40+ year life, it returns to the scrap stream instead of a landfill. Asphalt roofing—torn off every 15–20 years—generates millions of tons of landfill waste annually across North America. Over Waterbury's typical roof lifecycle (65–80 years), you'd replace asphalt 4–5 times, each time sending debris to the dump. Interlock's one-install, multi-decade approach eliminates that cycle. The manufacturing process (Delta, BC since 1998) also produces minimal waste compared to asphalt refinement. Sustainability isn't marketing here—it's a measurable reduction in consumption and landfill burden.
