I would recommend the company. They need to improve communication. It was told it would be six to eight weeks. There was no follow up with the delays. That is the whole key to ordering a very expensive roof. There was a significant delay. If you promise someone six to eight weeks then it is sixteen weeks. That is concerning. If it was a week or two, or three I could have lived with that. The amount of delay should be communicated to the customer. It was close to fifty thousand dollars for the roof. A weekly call from Minnesota with the reason for the delay would have made a difference. They could have informed the customer that there was a delay and apologized it was out of their control. They could have said there was a backlog of roofs that needed to be installed. There was no communication. Anyone can have concerns about that. It is a great product. I was satisfied so I kept the sign up for two weeks. I told that to the general manager. He did a great job. I love the roof. I just took down the sign yesterday. They could have improved communication efficiency. You are selling a customer a Rolls Royce in terms of a roof. You are doing it with a special type of customer. They have that kind of money probably. You would expect that type of support in regards to the information of when it is going to be installed. You are giving them the support level or a Chevrolet or Hyundai. You should give somebody like a black card rather than a prepaid Visa card. That has to be improved. There are different types of customers that buy high end. It is those bells and whistles that are purchased, so customer service is a must. It is like selling a Rolls Royce or Cadillac. It is a great product. If you can just improve on communication on delays. I would suggest keeping the customer informed on what is going on. If you are promised six to eight weeks and it was sixteen weeks, that is concerning. That is the only thing you guys need to do. There is a lack of communication.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Northfield

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Northfield, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Northfield.

Will a metal roof handle Northfield's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it does so uniformly and predictably—unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle in cold and soft in heat. Northfield experiences about 82 freeze-thaw days per year across the typical winter season. The four-way interlocking panel design accommodates this movement without stress concentration. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer also resists corrosion during the wet-freeze transitions when salt and moisture are present. The result: no cracking, splitting, or curling over decades.

How does Interlock metal roofing perform under Northfield's snow load?

The Interlock Shake profile, for example, weighs only about 0.58 lb/sq ft—light enough that your existing roof structure carries the snow load without reinforcement, but the panels' mechanical lock prevents snow from sliding off in dangerous sheets. Northfield averages roughly 73 cm of snow annually. The smooth aluminum surface sheds moisture efficiently, reducing ice-dam formation. You can add snow guards to any profile if you prefer controlled melting. This combination of light weight and efficient water shedding gives you snow management without the structural expense or maintenance burden of slate or concrete tile.

Can Interlock metal roofing handle Northfield's wind gusts?

Absolutely. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Northfield's typical gust speeds reach about 97 km/h (60 mph), well within safe margins. The mechanical interlock design distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress on fasteners or seams. This redundancy means a single gust won't lift panels or compromise the weather seal. For a city with variable Midwest wind patterns, the interlock system provides consistent, predictable hold-down performance.

Will an Interlock metal roof lower my homeowner's insurance in Northfield?

Your homeowner's insurance may offer discounts for a UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated roof—the highest classification available. Interlock's aluminum panels carry this rating and are even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The light weight also means less structural strain during impact events. Check with your insurer about specific premium reductions in Cook County; many carriers recognize metal roofing's durability and may lower your rate. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty and non-prorated lifetime material coverage, you have financial protection on multiple fronts.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?

Aluminum contains no iron—the element that oxidizes to form rust. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. When that layer is scratched, it self-heals automatically through reaction with oxygen in the air. Northfield's climate includes about 993 mm of annual rainfall and occasional freeze-thaw moisture exposure, but the aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 to ASTM B209) resists corrosion from these conditions. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides adds an extra barrier—especially valuable during damp seasons—and is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires continuous paint maintenance to prevent rust.

What's the real lifespan and warranty of Interlock metal roofing?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material coverage for the original owner—no deductibles, no sliding scale as the roof ages. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the new owner for 50 years from completion. This two-tier structure reflects realistic durability: panels installed over 25 years ago in far harsher salt-air environments remain intact. For Northfield homeowners planning to stay long-term or sell later, this warranty eliminates the cost and landfill impact of roof replacement cycles common with asphalt.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers several, with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny is a popular example). These coatings reflect the heat that dark asphalt absorbs, reducing attic temperatures and cooling load. Northfield receives about 3,051 sunshine hours per year—enough seasonal variation to benefit from reflective coatings in summer while the roof's insulation value helps retain heat in winter. The cool-roof effect is modest in a climate with only 82 freeze-thaw days, but across a 30-year lifespan, the energy savings add up, and energy-efficiency certification may qualify you for utility rebates.

How long does Interlock metal roofing installation take?

Most residential roofs install in 3–5 days depending on size and complexity. A key advantage: the lightweight aluminum panels (Slate at about 0.41 lb/sq ft) install directly over your existing asphalt roof in most cases, eliminating tear-off labor, debris, and landfill cost. Your home stays dry and livable throughout. Interlock has served the region since 2001, so local crews know Northfield's building codes, permit processes, and seasonal weather patterns. The installation sequence—flashing, starter course, panel rows, ridge caps—is straightforward and repeatable. Your roof can be weathertight before the next rainfall event, which matters in a city averaging about 993 mm of rain annually.

Is Interlock metal roofing recyclable?

Approximately 95% recyclable. When an aluminum roof reaches end of life—which is decades away—the panels retain scrap value and enter recycling streams rather than landfills. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, cannot be recycled into new roofing; they end up in waste. Northfield's rain load (about 993 mm annually) and freeze-thaw cycling (82 days per year) make asphalt shingles a recurring tear-off expense. Over a homeowner's lifetime, choosing Interlock eliminates multiple roof replacements and their associated waste. The aluminum alloy composition (3105-H24 / 3003-H24) is food-grade stock that recycles indefinitely without degradation. This closed-loop approach aligns with CALGreen sustainability verification and reduces your home's environmental footprint.

Does metal roofing add curb appeal and resale value?

Yes. A new roof is often the first visible upgrade buyers notice, and metal's dimensional profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, or Standing Seam—convey quality and longevity. The aesthetic appeal depends on your choice of profile and color, but the durability story is universal: a roof that won't need replacement for 30+ years is a major selling point in Cook County. Buyers also value the lifetime limited warranty transferable to the next owner for 50 years, reduced insurance premiums (especially with Class 4 hail rating), and avoided maintenance cycles. While no two homes appreciate identically, a contemporary metal roof is typically perceived as a premium upgrade over aged asphalt, particularly in Northfield's established neighborhoods where curb appearance drives buyer first impressions.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Northfield’s climate?

Yes. Northfield averages about 73 cm of snow, 993 mm of rain, roughly 82 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
