Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Deerfield, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
John M. was the third roofing sales consultant I talked to, and I had two more scheduled. After listening to John explain all the advantages of the InterLock System and materials, I was 95% sold but I thought it might be a little out of my price range. I was going to wait and hear from the other two roofers before I made my decision. John asked me what it would take for me to make my decision right then. I told him, and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I cancelled the other two sales rep. meetings. Boy am I glad I did. Considering the amount of man hours put into the installation, I got a bargain! Jessie's team worked from 8AM to 7PM for a total of 8 days to complete the installation during July 2023 ( the hottest July ever recorded ). I don't know how they did it! Jessie answered all my questions during construction, and kept me informed of what would happen next. Some of the asphalt shingles on parts of the roof with a low slope had to be scraped off. The majority of the roof had a steeper slope, and the new metal roof could be installed directly on top. People had warned me that metal roofs were noisy during rain or hail events. Not true! The shingles and underlayment have actually muffled the sounds that I would hear coming from my old asphalt shingle roof. The ice and water shields that were on my existing chimneys and vents were extended farther up each one. Some of the vertical siding was temporarily removed and put back so new ice and water shield could be placed on top of the water and ice shield that was already there. I'm 70 years old so the lifetime guarantee may not mean much, but the ability to transfer to the next owner 50 more years of protection is huge! My wife and I are very satisfied with the quality of materials, and the outstanding installation work done by Jessie and his team. It's too bad that the rating companies only allow a 5 star rating for the best and most outstanding companies. A company like InterLock should get at least 10 stars.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Deerfield
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Deerfield, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Deerfield.
Will metal roofing hold up to Deerfield's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes — aluminum's non-corrosive oxide layer actually strengthens under repeated freeze-thaw stress rather than degrading. Deerfield experiences about 82 freeze-thaw days per year, and asphalt becomes brittle in these swings while wood cracks and splits. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered for exactly this cycling. The roofing-grade alloy resists both thermal expansion and contraction without fatigue, and the four-way interlocking panels move as a unified system—eliminating the micro-failures that plague rigid competitors.
How does a metal roof perform under Deerfield's annual snowfall?
Metal roofing handles snow exceptionally well because of its light weight and smooth profile. Deerfield receives about 73 cm of snow annually, and the slippery surface of Interlock panels naturally sheds accumulation rather than holding it—reducing ice dam risk. Each profile weighs dramatically less than slate or tile alternatives (the Tile profile is ~96% lighter than concrete or clay tile), so your existing structure carries the load safely. Snow guards are available if you need them; most Deerfield homes benefit from the shed-and-slide design without them.
Why should I choose aluminum metal roofing instead of steel?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Steel rusts aggressively when exposed to water and freeze-thaw cycling, especially in Cook County's 993 mm of annual rainfall. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which forms a self-healing oxide layer when scratched. This barrier actually seals itself over time, whereas a rusted steel roof requires constant maintenance or replacement. For a home that should last decades, aluminum eliminates rust worry entirely.
What warranty does Interlock Metal Roofing offer, and how long will it really last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This structure reflects Interlock's confidence: the product has been manufactured since 1998 and installed on everything from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. Deerfield homeowners buy a roof that outlasts the mortgage and transfers with the house.
Can my house frame support metal roofing, or do I need structural reinforcement?
Most homes need no reinforcement at all. The Interlock Slate installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heaviest profile—Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—is about 96% lighter than traditional concrete or clay tile. Asphalt shingles typically run 2–3 lb/sq ft, so metal often weighs less than what's already there. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels distribute load uniformly across your framing. This light weight also means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs, eliminating the cost and waste of a full tear-off.
Will Interlock metal roofing withstand Deerfield's winter and storm winds?
Interlock is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—well above Cook County's typical gusts of about 97 km/h (60 mph). The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together to form a unified system that moves as one rather than lifting or peeling like traditional shingles. Each connection point is engineered to distribute wind load across the entire roof plane. Deerfield homeowners get security in winter storms and spring derechos without the vulnerability of loose-laid alternatives.
Is metal roofing damaged by hail, and can it reduce my insurance costs?
Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Metal roofing's hardness and flexibility mean hail dents it minimally; the impact doesn't translate into leaks or structural failure. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for metal roofs in hail-prone regions. Deerfield's climate isn't hail-extreme, but the Class 4 rating means you're protected if severe storms do strike, and you have documentation for any insurance conversation.
Will an Interlock metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it. The coating achieves thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, which measurably lowers attic temperature and reduces air-conditioning load. Deerfield receives about 3,051 sunshine hours per year, so summer heat reflection adds up over the months. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this performance. An asphalt roof absorbs that same sun and transfers heat into your home. Over a 20+ year roof life, the energy savings compound—especially if you're replacing dark or aged shingles.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires significantly less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV exposure and require routine inspections; wood shakes split and rot in Deerfield's ~993 mm annual rainfall and 82 freeze-thaw days; tile cracks and needs individual piece replacement. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) resists all three modes of failure. Rainfall naturally cleans the roof. You inspect gutters and flashings as with any roof, but the panels themselves remain sound—no missing shingles, no curling edges, no rot.
Is metal roofing more sustainable than traditional roofing materials?
Metal roofing breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. When an asphalt roof reaches end-of-life, it's torn off and sent to a landfill or low-grade recycling. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and enters the aluminum recycling stream at scrap value, creating material incentive for proper end-of-life handling. Over its 50+ year lifespan, you replace the roof far fewer times than with asphalt (which typically lasts 15–20 years in Deerfield's climate). That means fewer tear-offs, less waste, and lower total environmental impact. Aluminum's durability is itself a sustainability feature.
