Review: August 15, 2023 Completion: July 31, 2023

John M. was the third roofing sales consultant I talked to, and I had two more scheduled. After listening to John explain all the advantages of the InterLock System and materials, I was 95% sold but I thought it might be a little out of my price range. I was going to wait and hear from the other two roofers before I made my decision. John asked me what it would take for me to make my decision right then. I told him, and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I cancelled the other two sales rep. meetings. Boy am I glad I did. Considering the amount of man hours put into the installation, I got a bargain! Jessie's team worked from 8AM to 7PM for a total of 8 days to complete the installation during July 2023 ( the hottest July ever recorded ). I don't know how they did it! Jessie answered all my questions during construction, and kept me informed of what would happen next. Some of the asphalt shingles on parts of the roof with a low slope had to be scraped off. The majority of the roof had a steeper slope, and the new metal roof could be installed directly on top. People had warned me that metal roofs were noisy during rain or hail events. Not true! The shingles and underlayment have actually muffled the sounds that I would hear coming from my old asphalt shingle roof. The ice and water shields that were on my existing chimneys and vents were extended farther up each one. Some of the vertical siding was temporarily removed and put back so new ice and water shield could be placed on top of the water and ice shield that was already there. I'm 70 years old so the lifetime guarantee may not mean much, but the ability to transfer to the next owner 50 more years of protection is huge! My wife and I are very satisfied with the quality of materials, and the outstanding installation work done by Jessie and his team. It's too bad that the rating companies only allow a 5 star rating for the best and most outstanding companies. A company like InterLock should get at least 10 stars.

Review: March 28, 2017

Dear Mr. Mondschean It has been slightly more than one week since the installation was completed, and I thought I would offer the following: Noise — Since completion, we have had two rainstorms, a four-inch snowfall, and a minute heavy hailstorm. The only annoying noise experienced (…think of a loud combo of cymbals & snare drums) was during the hailstorm. However, I am sure that with standard shingles, the amplitude would have been the same, only at a lower frequency (i.e. a bowling alley and/or Niagara Falls). Installation — Juan & Alex did an excellent job exercising care around existing installations (i.e. new plantings, aerials, wiring … ) and worked diligently even during the 50mph windy/gusty Wednesday. Upon completion, clean-up was very well done … not perfect, but better than I’ve seen in the last 20 years. Jesse also did well with coordination and follow-up. Satisfaction — I’m impressed with the materials & engineering involved in your roofing system. The interlocking method provides good rigidity & hopefully good liquid seepage resistance, while the individual shingle size should allow proper thermal expansion/contraction to prevent buckling. Visually, I’m completely satisfied. Performance-wise, ask me again in one year after everything has gone through a complete spring-summer-fall-winter cycle, thus establishing the credibility of your advertising propaganda.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Glencoe

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Glencoe, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Glencoe.

Will metal roofing hold up through Glencoe's freeze-thaw winters?

Yes. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so freeze-thaw cycling—Glencoe averages about 82 such days per year—cannot initiate rust or corrosion the way it attacks steel. The material is roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains no iron and expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers splitting and cracking for the original owner's lifetime, giving you confidence through decades of temperature swings combined with your region's roughly 73 cm annual snowfall.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in northern Illinois?

The four-way interlocking panel design locks each piece to its neighbors, preventing snow and ice from sliding off in dangerous sheets. With about 993 mm of rain and 73 cm of snow annually in Glencoe, the smooth, sloped surface sheds precipitation efficiently, reducing ice dam formation at the eaves—a major problem with asphalt in freeze-thaw zones. Snow guards can be added if you want to manage runoff. The interlocking system's engineering ensures that seasonal snow loads distribute safely across the roof without stressing seams or creating leak points.

Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel does?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. In Glencoe's climate, with roughly 993 mm annual rainfall, this matters: steel roofing develops rust spots within years, but aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. After 30 years, the bare aluminum itself remains corrosion-proof—you're not replacing the roof because it rusted.

Can my house handle a metal tile roof without expensive reinforcement?

Yes, because Interlock's Tile profile installs at roughly 0.59 lb per square foot—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Your existing roof structure was likely engineered to carry asphalt shingles; Tile metal roofing weighs significantly less, so no structural upgrades are needed in most cases. You can often install Interlock directly over your existing roof, avoiding costly tear-off labor. With Glencoe's approximately 73 cm annual snowfall, the lightweight design also means snow loads stay well within safe limits, and the roof handles the typical daily-max winds of about 19 km/h with gusts reaching 97 km/h without stress.

Will a metal roof blow off in Illinois wind and storms?

No. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far exceeding Glencoe's typical gusts of roughly 97 km/h. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified system that distributes wind forces across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This interlocking design is why the product carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and passes ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 for wind resistance under the IBC/IRC. Local storms and seasonal weather swings won't compromise the roof's integrity or your home's protection.

Does metal roofing get damaged by hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-negotiable durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because claims are extremely rare. Many carriers recognize the 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244) and lifetime limited material warranty as proof of long-term performance. With Glencoe's variable spring and summer weather, this proven impact resistance translates to lower premiums and fewer claim headaches than asphalt or wood shakes, which pit, bruise, or crack under hail impact.

What does the warranty actually cover, and how long does the roof last?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once—the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion, making the roof a significant selling point. Because aluminum cannot rust and the PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, the material outlasts multiple asphalt replacement cycles. Over a 50-year ownership period, you install this roof once; your neighbor replaces asphalt shingles four or five times, each cycle requiring labor, disposal, and new material—making Interlock genuinely the last roof you'll buy.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum, so at end-of-life they enter the recycling stream, not the landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15-20 years and sent to landfills by the millions of tons annually. Over 50 years, choosing Interlock means one installation and one eventual recycling event; your neighbor's asphalt choice means three to four tear-offs, three to four landfill trips, and repeated manufacturing impacts. Glencoe's roughly 3,051 annual sunshine hours support the energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity 0.84, which reduce cooling loads. The roof is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, so fewer chemical treatments and repairs compound the environmental advantage.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance: an occasional debris clearing and inspection. Asphalt shingles develop moss, algae, and granule loss in Glencoe's 993 mm annual rainfall, requiring chemical treatment, power washing, or replacement of affected sections. Wood shakes split and rot in your region's approximately 82 freeze-thaw days per year, needing repairs or re-staining. Interlock aluminum panels don't absorb water, don't rot, don't need chemical treatment, and don't deteriorate from moisture exposure. The CALGreen-verified design eliminates the maintenance cycle that drains homeowner time and money. A simple annual walk-around—no specialized tools or contractors needed—keeps your roof performing for decades.

Can metal roofing look like slate, shake, or tile, or does it look obviously 'metal'?

Interlock manufactures five distinct profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each designed to replicate traditional materials faithfully. The multi-layer aluminum panels create genuine depth and shadow line, not flat printwork. Slate profile captures the dimensional stone texture; Cedar Shingle mirrors the overlapped board aesthetic; Shake replicates hand-split wood grain; Mediterranean Tile echoes clay barrel curves; Standing Seam offers clean vertical lines. From the street, these profiles read as their intended materials while delivering the permanent durability and lightweight advantage of aluminum. The four-way interlocking construction is invisible from ground level, so your curb appeal reflects your chosen style, not an industrial metal aesthetic.
