Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Stone Park, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
Dear John, Several years ago, I became fascinated with the idea of a metal roof. Tired of constantly looking at my roof for signs of deterioration, I wondered if a metal roof was a realistic option for a home, as I only noticed them on barns and businesses. A few months ago, you and Mike Rasmussen visited my home to provide an estimate. I was shocked at the number of options for beautiful metal roofs that were not just functional but very attractive. Now, with the job complete – I couldn’t be more pleased. Neighbors and friends all have the same response, wondering if this is really a metal roof and commenting on how attractive it is. One of my concerns in deciding upon a new roof related to my previous experience with roofers. A twenty-year warranty for a roofing company that went out of business, asphalt shingles that began deteriorating less than ten years after installation, with manufacturers blaming the installer and the installer blaming the manufacturer, made warranties meaningless. My experience with Interlock has been excellent from beginning to end. Knowing that Interlock both manufactures and installs its roofs eliminated my concern about responsibility. A lifetime warranty (limited to 50 years when I sell my house) means I no longer have to worry about replacing my roof. It’s such a relief to know I am done with such concerns. You and Mike assured me that the installers would be meticulous and clean the area around my house every night; however, they did far more than that. I have seen many roofs installed, and it is usually a quick installation. Under the careful supervision of Jessie, the installers tediously worked to cut and detail each section. Working around the chimneys, they worked to be sure every detail was perfect, spending several hours in one small area. Preparing the areas around the eaves and valleys (not sure how to describe things) was very time-consuming as they wanted everything to be perfect. This is something else my neighbors noticed. The pride they took in their work was apparent at every turn as they answered all my questions and explained why they were doing various things. When they began working on the addition, one of the workers asked me if that room was cold in the winter and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot in the summer. I thought he was clairvoyant because it has always been the most uncomfortable room in the house. He explained there was no vent on that part of the roof, which impedes airflow. They added a vent, at no extra cost, once more, an indication of their commitment to excellence. I’m looking forward to seeing the difference in the winter – hoping I can remove the space heater. There was one young man who spent each day making sure everything was cleaned up. None of my trees, plants, or flowerpots were damaged. I’m not sure they were even touched. After each of the four days, the only indication that work was being done was the dumpster in my driveway, as everything was meticulously cleaned. Concern for the environment is very important to me, and knowing that my roof eliminates additional landfill waste is definitely an additional benefit. Thank you for living up to every promise you made when you first visited. I couldn’t be more pleased with my investment. A few neighbors who recently got new roofs were sorry they hadn’t known about how attractive, and permanent metal roofs are. A few others have said they will seriously consider metal roofs when it’s time to replace their existing roofs. So my years-long dream of a metal roof is complete; far more attractive than I ever imagined, highly functional and permanent. My only disappointment is that I anticipated listening to the rain hitting the metal roof – but it’s actually very quiet. For most, I guess that is another plus. I would be happy to answer any questions potential metal roof owners might have, as I am so pleased with my purchase (investment).

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Stone Park
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Stone Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Stone Park.
Will a metal roof handle Stone Park's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or failing?
Yes—aluminum's crystal structure actually thrives through repeated freeze-thaw stress. Stone Park experiences roughly 82 freeze-thaw days per year, which would cause traditional asphalt to become brittle and crack, but aluminum expands and contracts elastically without damage. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has been installed successfully in far more severe climates, including Antarctic research stations. Combined with the four-way interlocking panel design, your roof stays watertight through every winter cycle.
Can aluminum roofing rust? How does it hold up to Stone Park's wet winters?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopic oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal beneath indefinitely. This matters in Cook County's roughly 993 mm of annual rainfall: water alone cannot penetrate aluminum the way it does steel. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides, 30-year warranty) adds an extra barrier against any corrosive agents in rain or snow melt, ensuring your roof performs for decades without the rust problems steel roofs face.
How does a metal roof perform under Stone Park's annual 70+ centimeters of snow?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because of their smooth, slippery surface and superior structural integrity under load. Stone Park averages about 73 cm of snow annually; aluminum's light weight (the Shake profile at roughly 0.58 lb/sq ft) means your home's frame carries far less burden than slate or concrete tile, which reduces ice dam formation and structural strain. The four-way interlocking panels resist the lateral pressure of settling snow, and the 120 mph wind warranty protects against the gusts (averaging 19 km/h with peaks near 97 km/h) that follow heavy snowfall. Many homeowners also add snow guards to match their architectural style.
Does an Interlock metal roof stay secure in high winds and Stone Park's winter gusts?
Yes—the four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Stone Park's typical winter gusts reach about 97 km/h, well within the roof's tested range. The interlocking edges create a mechanical bond that distributes lateral stress across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating it on fasteners. This design, combined with the lightweight aluminum panels, means your roof stays secure through the seasonal wind swings common in Cook County without the uplift risks that plague heavier materials or less-engineered fastening systems.
What hail rating does an Interlock metal roof have, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock carries the highest available hail impact rating: UL 2218 Class 4, which tests impact from 2-inch steel balls. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In areas with frequent severe hail, this rating alone has qualified homeowners for insurance discounts—ask your agent. While Stone Park's climate record doesn't show extreme hail frequency, the Class 4 rating provides peace of mind and potential premium reductions. The non-combustible aluminum construction (Class A fire rating available) may also unlock additional savings, depending on your policy.
Will an Interlock metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, reducing the cooling load on your air conditioning. The Aged Copper Penny profile achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—meaning it bounces sunlight and re-radiates absorbed heat rather than storing it like asphalt does. Stone Park averages about 3,051 sunshine hours annually, so this reflective benefit compounds throughout warm months. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy savings. Over your roof's lifetime, the lower cooling demand can offset a meaningful portion of your installation cost.
Is an Interlock metal roof easier to maintain than asphalt or traditional tile?
Dramatically easier. Metal roofs require no granule replacement, no moss or algae treatment, and no periodic recoating—the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244). Stone Park's roughly 993 mm annual rainfall simply sheds off the smooth aluminum surface without pooling. Unlike wood shakes (which split and rot in freeze-thaw cycles), asphalt (which becomes brittle in cold), or concrete tile (which cracks), aluminum is inert. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation even recognizes Interlock as CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning fewer service calls and lower long-term upkeep costs over your roof's life.
Can my Stone Park home's frame support a new metal roof without reinforcement?
Almost certainly yes. The aluminum Mediterranean Tile profile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is needed. Even if you're replacing a slate or tile roof, Interlock installs directly over your existing structure. Stone Park's frame was built to handle the original roof load; switching to metal actually reduces structural strain, lowering the risk of sag or failure. This also means installation is faster and less invasive—no need to hire a structural engineer or add support beams. The weight advantage even helps with energy efficiency and longevity, since your home moves less during those 82 annual freeze-thaw cycles.
Is an Interlock metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, when you calculate the full lifecycle cost. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and require replacement every cycle, sending old material to landfill. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime non-prorated for the original owner and transferable 50 years for the next owner, meaning one installation typically outlasts two or three asphalt reroof cycles. Over 40–50 years, the single metal roof installation cost is lower than multiple asphalt replacements, plus you avoid tear-off labor and hauling fees each time. With roughly 993 mm annual rainfall and 73 cm snow in Stone Park, durability compounds your savings—metal's superior performance under freeze-thaw stress and heavy moisture means fewer emergency repairs that asphalt roofs suffer.
Does Interlock Metal Roofing have a local installer serving Stone Park?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the Stone Park and broader Cook County region since 2001, with expertise in the specific climate conditions your home faces—about 73 cm of snow, roughly 993 mm rainfall, and frequent freeze-thaw cycling. The local team understands permit requirements, regional building codes, and the architectural character of the area.
