Review: February 13, 2019 Completion: January 13, 2019

While I am happy with the final result,I could never ,in good conscience, recommend anyone to use your company. Customer service,or lack thereof is a glaring weakness.Whenever we attempted to communicate with Jennifer,we were either ignored,or placated.Repeated requests to speak with her supervisor were ignored.Great amounts of our time and money were wasted doing online searches for permits, constructing ladder guards out of my own plywood, putting buckets in the attic to catch drips, cleaning up debris, etc. When we inquired as to what they would be doing for compensation, she told us to submit a receipt for the wood.We just spent $30,000 on a roof and that is how we are treated? I can only hope that the roof holds up and we have no warranty claims, because the thought of dealing with Jennifer Simons is not pleasant.I was also disgusted that the contract absolves Interlock from installation delays even when they are your fault.Nice to hide that in the fine print.

We feel as though the left over materials should have been left on site. We have no idea how much of the materials we paid for were left over. We would like for all left over materials from the main house roof project to be left on site.

Thank you for showing us samples of the roofing materials and colors that were available. The steel grey we choose looks fantastic on the house. I would recommend this type of roof to anyone looking for a new roof. Interlock Roofing is the best! The crew that installed the roof was very polite. They worked very hard to get the job done and they cleaned up the area at the end of the day. I'll never have to worry about putting another roof on this house again. I can honestly say Interlock roofing is the best investment anyone can make. Thank you

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Gloucester

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Gloucester, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Gloucester.

Will a metal roof hold up to Massachusetts freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum roofing actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. East Gloucester experiences about 71 freeze-thaw days per year, where moisture penetrates and damages asphalt and wood. Aluminum's oxide layer doesn't absorb water, so it won't crack, split, or curl as temperatures swing. The 3105-H24 alloy maintains its structural integrity through countless cycles. Combined with the four-way interlocking panels that shed water instantly, your roof simply won't experience the material fatigue that ends asphalt shingles' lives in 15–20 years. That's why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal Canadian homes to Antarctic research stations.

How does a metal roof handle East Gloucester's snow and ice?

Metal roofing handles snow exceptionally well because of its smooth surface and rapid melt characteristics. East Gloucester receives about 89 cm of snow annually, and ice dams form when heat escapes through poorly insulated roofs, melting snow that then refreezes at the eave. A metal roof's high reflectance (up to 0.55 solar reflectance on energy-efficiency colors) bounces solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt, reducing the temperature differential that triggers ice dams. The panels shed meltwater quickly, and optional snow guards can be installed to manage controlled release. Proper attic ventilation paired with metal's thermal behavior keeps gutters clear.

With 1089 mm of rain per year, will my metal roof leak?

No—East Gloucester's 1089 mm annual rainfall won't penetrate a properly installed Interlock roof. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap and seal with each installation, creating a unified shed that channels water downward and outward in a continuous plane. Metal roofing sheds water faster than asphalt because water doesn't pool or absorb into the material; gravity does the work. When installed over solid deck and underlayment to ESR-1790 specifications, the system performs identically to asphalt in heavy rain—except metal never develops the hairline cracks that eventually leak. Flashing at valleys, penetrations, and edges is sealed to the same standard, ensuring water reaches gutters, not your interior.

Can a metal roof handle the wind gusts in Essex County?

Absolutely. East Gloucester experiences typical daily winds around 23 km/h with gusts reaching 139 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking geometry means each panel is mechanically fastened and overlapped, creating a unified assembly rather than individual shingles that can lift or blow away. This design has passed rigorous wind-tunnel testing and real-world installation across North America's most exposed coastal regions. Your roof won't flutter, uplift, or lose panels in nor'easters—the warranty explicitly covers wind damage up to those speeds.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, while the Cedar Shingle is 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light you can install it directly over most existing asphalt roofs without adding any support. In fact, most East Gloucester homes have rafters and trusses designed for asphalt shingle weight or heavier materials, meaning a metal roof actually reduces load on your framing. This is a genuine structural advantage: no costly reinforcement, no additional labor, and the roof can often be installed over your existing shingles, shortening the project and avoiding tear-off waste.

Will my insurance company discount a metal roof with a Class 4 hail rating?

Many insurers do offer discounts for roofs rated UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail-impact classification available. Interlock's panels hold this rating, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—a level of protection few roofs offer. While not every insurer automatically discounts Class 4 roofing, it's worth discussing with your agent; some Massachusetts carriers specifically reward impact resistance. The combination of aluminum's inherent durability and documented Class 4 performance gives you leverage in insurance negotiations. Ask your provider about hail-damage discounts when you switch to metal—the savings often contribute meaningfully to your installation cost.

Can a metal roof really reduce my cooling costs?

Yes, energy-efficient Interlock colors reduce cooling costs by reflecting solar heat instead of absorbing it. The Aged Copper Penny finish, for example, achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 with thermal emissivity of 0.84—meaning it bounces incoming heat and radiates absorbed heat efficiently. Over East Gloucester's average 3075 annual sunshine hours, that reflectivity compounds, keeping your roof surface and attic cooler. The Guardian Warranty covers performance, and the Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms these thermal properties. While cooling loads vary by home size and insulation, metal roofs consistently outperform asphalt on utility bills, especially in homes with air conditioning or evening comfort demands.

What does the lifetime warranty really cover, and how long does it last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no time limit on coverage strength. It's transferable once, meaning the next owner receives 50 years of identical protection from completion. This matters because metal roofing actually lasts 40–70 years depending on environment, while the warranty guarantees performance for at least the first owner's lifetime and gives buyers two generations of confidence. Unlike prorated warranties that decline annually, The Guardian's non-prorated structure means a claim in year 30 is treated as favorably as one in year 5. That's peace of mind asphalt simply cannot match.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in East Gloucester?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the East Gloucester and Essex County region since 1999—over 25 years of local experience installing aluminum panels in New England's coastal climate. They understand salt-air exposure, freeze-thaw demands, nor'easter wind patterns, and the specific building codes that govern Massachusetts installations. Your installer holds the expertise to properly spec the right profile for your home's architecture, ensure installation meets ESR-1790 standards, and connect you with the current regional financing promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Local service means responsive support, warranty administration, and a team invested in your neighborhood's roofing excellence.

Is metal roofing worth the higher upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Yes, when you calculate the cost over the life of your roof. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off disposal and reinstallation, repeating the cycle; metal roofing lasts 40–70 years and is 95% recyclable, ending that landfill cycle permanently. You'll replace asphalt three times before aluminum needs replacement once. Factor in the 30-year Alunar coating warranty against fading, zero maintenance versus asphalt's periodic repairs, and The Guardian's non-prorated lifetime coverage protecting resale value. Over 50 years, metal roofing is demonstrably cheaper despite higher initial installation cost. Current financing—no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off—reduces upfront burden while you realize long-term savings.
