Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Middlefield, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I've had an Interlock metal roof on my house and garden shed for two years now. It's absolutely gorgeous. Everyone thinks it's a slate roof! I've had no problems with it. The installation was amazing! A crew of 11 showed up early in the morning and were almost completely done in one day on both buildings. They were so professional. I highly recommend Interlock for both their high quality product and their great people.
Just a note about the roof we installed in March of 2003. The first thing that we have to say is that the roof looks wonderful; it’s the best one on the street. A neighbor two houses down the street had a new asphalt roof installed shortly after we had our Interlock Roof installed. The neighbor across the street remarked that our roof looked a lot better than the neighbor's. We have had quite a few neighbors stop and ask about the roof and remark how good it looks. Having the chimney flashed with a solid flashing (instead of step flashing) and the ducts matching the roof really makes the roof look finished off. Also, having them put vents on the back which match the roof looks finished off, so they are not noticeable. As far as the workmen and the quality of workmanship, we feel that it was done very professionally. We asked that they not start working until 8:00 am, and they waited until 8:30 am to start. They kept the grounds very clean even when they were stripping the roof. They hung tarps so nothing could or would damage either the house or any plants which are around the house. They were very friendly and courteous. In closing, we are very pleased with the roof and the professionalism of the workers.
We recently had your Interlock Roofing System installed on our home. It has now been about 3 months since the roof was installed. We receive many compliments on how beautiful the roof looks. Your installers were polite, fast, cleaned up the area daily and did a full clean up after the job was completed.
Very pleased so far.
They broke the dish to my internet, when they were on the roof. I had to have it fixed myself.
The expense was too high for our project
I could speak to another company representative and discuss the pricing aspect of it. I am really reached out at this point. I do not have a lot of faith because of the price aspect. I am interested in the commute with the price aspect with someone.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Middlefield
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Middlefield, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Middlefield.
Does a metal roof handle Middlefield's 136 cm of annual snow without ice dams?
Yes. Aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt. The four-way panel locks prevent water infiltration even when snow melts during freeze-thaw cycles—Middlefield averages about 90 such days per year, which is exactly when ice dams form under conventional roofs. You can add snow guards if desired, but the metal itself won't trap ice the way a granulated asphalt roof does. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural strain from heavy wet snow loads.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof over time?
No, aluminum thrives through freeze-thaw stress. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle and cracks after repeated freezing cycles, or wood shake, which splits, aluminum's crystalline structure is naturally flexible and self-healing. Middlefield's 90 annual freeze-thaw days won't degrade the roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) or its Alunar 70% PVDF coating. The oxide layer that forms on aluminum actually strengthens over time, even as temperatures swing between winter snow and spring thaw. This is why panels installed in 1998 still perform like new.
Can an aluminum roof rust in a wet climate like Middlefield?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, a thin, self-healing oxide layer forms on the surface and protects deeper layers when scratched or exposed. In Middlefield's high-moisture environment (about 1056 mm of rainfall annually), this is a massive advantage over steel roofing, which rusts aggressively. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel, adds 30 years of extra corrosion defense. After 26 years, these roofs still show no rust, rot, or structural degradation—something asphalt and wood simply cannot match.
What hail rating does this metal roof have, and will it lower my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating demonstrates that the four-way interlocking panels absorb and distribute impact energy without cracking or denting like asphalt or traditional tile. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are rare. Ask your agent about premium reductions; some customers recoup installation costs through combined discounts and the financing offer available now: no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off your installation.
How does this metal roof perform in Middlefield's wind gusts?
Middlefield experiences gusts up to about 119 km/h, and Interlock's panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all sides—no uplift, no separation, no water infiltration. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, rely only on nails and adhesive, which fail under sustained gust. After 26 years and thousands of installations from coastal British Columbia to exposed mountain sites, the wind warranty has been validated across far more extreme conditions than Middlefield will see.
Can my older Middlefield home support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?
No reinforcement needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which visually replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. A typical slate-profile roof weighs around 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most homes built in the last century can handle asphalt shingles at similar or greater weight; aluminum panels are simply easier on your structure. In fact, Interlock installs directly over existing roofs in many cases, eliminating tear-off labor and debris. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms compliance with residential load codes—no engineer's stamp or reinforcement required for standard residential construction.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt every 15-20 years?
Over a 50-year horizon, aluminum is typically cheaper. Asphalt requires replacement twice, plus two tear-off and disposal cycles, plus maintenance and repairs. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable 50 years to the next owner) means no replacement. With about 3019 annual sunshine hours in Middlefield, energy-efficient colors reduce cooling costs by reflecting solar heat—emissivity at 0.84 and reflectance up to 0.55 on Aged Copper Penny. Current financing—no payments or interest until Spring 2027—removes the upfront barrier. Calculate total cost of ownership, not price per square foot, and metal wins decisively.
How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof really need?
Almost none. Unlike asphalt, which requires frequent inspection and loses granules in rain, or wood shake, which splits and needs annual sealing, aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), so repainting is optional and cosmetic only. With Middlefield's 1056 mm annual rainfall, the smooth panels self-clean as water runs off; leaf buildup is minimal in the valleys. Occasional gutter cleaning is all most homeowners do. No moss treatment, no sealant reapplication, no wood grain restoration. The warranty even covers material defects—you're protected, not burdened.
Is an aluminum metal roof actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock panels can be fully reclaimed at end of life (though that's 50+ years away). Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually; Middlefield's own roofing waste feeds that cycle. Choosing metal breaks that pattern—no tear-off, no disposal truck, no landfill contribution from your roof. If you ever sell, the 50-year transferable warranty means the next homeowner won't tear off and discard this roof either. Over two generations, one aluminum roof replaces two asphalt roofs' worth of landfill burden. Sustainability isn't a marketing claim here; it's a direct consequence of longevity.
Does Interlock have a local installer serving Middlefield?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999, with deep expertise in New England's snow, freeze-thaw, and salt-influenced climates. They understand Middlefield's specific weather patterns—about 90 freeze-thaw days, 136 cm of snow, and variable spring winds—and install panels to spec for maximum ice shedding and wind resistance. As the regional installer, they carry stock in local profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam) and can often complete jobs faster than distant crews. They also manage the current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Call for a local estimate.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Middlefield’s climate?
Yes. Middlefield averages about 136 cm of snow, 1056 mm of rain, roughly 90 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 119 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
