Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Plainfield, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I've had an Interlock metal roof on my house and garden shed for two years now. It's absolutely gorgeous. Everyone thinks it's a slate roof! I've had no problems with it. The installation was amazing! A crew of 11 showed up early in the morning and were almost completely done in one day on both buildings. They were so professional. I highly recommend Interlock for both their high quality product and their great people.
Just a note about the roof we installed in March of 2003. The first thing that we have to say is that the roof looks wonderful; it’s the best one on the street. A neighbor two houses down the street had a new asphalt roof installed shortly after we had our Interlock Roof installed. The neighbor across the street remarked that our roof looked a lot better than the neighbor's. We have had quite a few neighbors stop and ask about the roof and remark how good it looks. Having the chimney flashed with a solid flashing (instead of step flashing) and the ducts matching the roof really makes the roof look finished off. Also, having them put vents on the back which match the roof looks finished off, so they are not noticeable. As far as the workmen and the quality of workmanship, we feel that it was done very professionally. We asked that they not start working until 8:00 am, and they waited until 8:30 am to start. They kept the grounds very clean even when they were stripping the roof. They hung tarps so nothing could or would damage either the house or any plants which are around the house. They were very friendly and courteous. In closing, we are very pleased with the roof and the professionalism of the workers.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Plainfield
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Plainfield, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Plainfield.
How does a metal roof handle Plainfield's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow more readily than asphalt because their smooth surface and thermal properties resist ice dam formation—critical in Plainfield, which averages about 136 cm of snow yearly. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, so seasonal gusts up to 119 km/h won't compromise the install. With roughly 90 freeze-thaw days per year here, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when stressed by thermal cycling, whereas asphalt becomes brittle and cracks. Snow guards are available if you prefer to retain snow for insulation value.
Will a metal roof crack or fail from freeze-thaw stress in New England winters?
No—aluminum cannot crack from freeze-thaw cycling because it expands and contracts uniformly without developing stress fractures the way slate, tile, or asphalt do. Plainfield's 90 annual freeze-thaw days are intense, but the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels is engineered for precisely this climate. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and splitting for the original owner's lifetime. Unlike wood shake, which splits, or concrete tile, which shatters, aluminum flexes and recovers—it actually strengthens with age.
Can a metal roof rust in a rainy climate like Plainfield?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air and moisture, which is why Interlock panels have been installed in coastal salt-air homes and Antarctic research stations since 1998. Plainfield receives about 1056 mm of rain yearly, exposing your roof constantly to moisture; an aluminum roof remains corrosion-proof regardless of rainfall volume. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires frequent touch-ups and eventually fails. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, so your roof's finish stays vibrant through decades of wet New England springs.
Do the seams in a metal roof leak when Plainfield gets heavy rain?
No—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock water out mechanically; rain cannot penetrate seams because each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides. With Plainfield averaging 1056 mm of rain per year, a properly installed metal roof never develops the pooling and saturation issues that plague asphalt. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment makes Interlock as quiet and leak-proof as any traditional roof. The panels are ICC-ES evaluated (ESR-1790) for residential use in wet climates and backed by The Guardian's lifetime limited warranty against leaking.
Is it true metal tile is so light it won't damage my roof frame?
Yes—Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile, so your existing roof frame needs zero reinforcement. In contrast, traditional tile often requires structural upgrades costing $5,000–$15,000. Plainfield's about 3019 sunshine hours per year expose any roof to thermal stress, but aluminum's light weight allows natural expansion and contraction without straining fasteners or decking. You can install Interlock directly over most existing roofs, saving demolition time and landfill waste while maintaining the authentic tile aesthetic.
Will wind rip off a metal roof in a New England storm?
No—the four-way interlocking design and specification installation warrant wind resistance to 120 mph, well above Plainfield's typical gusts of about 119 km/h. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load evenly across the roof rather than creating a single point of failure like asphalt shingles. Interlock has been installed on coastal homes for over 25 years without wind-driven failure, and the warranty even covers wind damage. When ice and wet snow accumulate during Plainfield's winters, metal's smooth surface sheds weight faster than asphalt, further reducing wind vulnerability.
Does a metal roof protect against hail, and can it lower my insurance bill?
Yes—Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because the material resists damage that totals asphalt roofs. Plainfield's climate profile doesn't indicate extreme hail frequency, but when severe storms do occur, aluminum's non-denting performance gives you peace of mind. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification—many companies now recognize metal roofs as a significant risk reduction and reward you in writing.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the long term in Plainfield?
Yes—Interlock's lifetime limited material warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner) means you buy one roof, not three or four. A typical asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off and landfill disposal; Interlock is ~95% recyclable and lasts your lifetime. Over 50 years, the math favors metal: no re-roofing, no storm damage claims, no insurance premiums for a failing roof. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, eliminating the cost objection. In Plainfield's demanding climate of 1056 mm rain and 90 freeze-thaw days yearly, asphalt's accelerated degradation makes metal the economical choice.
What maintenance does an aluminum metal roof actually need?
Almost none—Interlock requires no roof-penetrating maintenance, no sealant touch-ups, and no weatherproofing treatments, unlike asphalt (which hardens and cracks), wood shake (which splits and rots), or tile (which breaks). In Plainfield's about 3019 annual sunshine hours and 1056 mm rain, traditional materials demand gutter cleaning and algae removal. With aluminum, leaves and debris slide off; gutters stay cleaner. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is verified for 30 years against chalking and fading under real-world UV and moisture exposure. You may hose down the roof occasionally to rinse pollen, but structural maintenance is zero for the life of your home.
